  1. Talent aside, Jay needs to get some positive in-game momentum going into 2018. Really hoping it happens in the AFL this year. I've pretty much given up on Eades.
  2. I think Gonsalves' ceiling is considerably lower than Romero's...then again, Gonsalves keeps producing at every level, so if he can adapt to AAA I'll start putting a lot more faith in him topping out higher than a MLB #3/4. Hasn't officially signed yet, but I'm in love with Enlow's curve. 1) Gordon 2) Lewis 3) Romero 4) Gonsalves 5) Enlow
  3. Absolutely love this pick. Enlow could've been rated higher but has a very strong commitment to LSU that will take some cash to pull him out of.
  4. I'd really like to see the Twins draft Gore. I think he ends up the best player in the draft and, even as a Boras client, the team should still be able to save a little money for picks 35 and 37.
  5. I want Gore. Greene has velocity and you can't teach velocity. High school players do tend to grow into their bodies, though, and add a couple of ticks onto their fastballs. I'm not convinced that you can teach feel, though, either. I think with the right coaching, pitchers can improve feel on breaking balls, but it's certainly not a given. Greene doesn't have much movement at all at this point and looks like more of a thrower than a pitcher to me. Gore has great feel on his breaking balls for a high school player, and looks like much more of a pitcher than thrower. I think he'll add a couple of ticks to his fastball and, most importantly, with the right coaching he could end up with two plus or better breaking balls. Plus he's a lefty. If Falvey sees something in Greene that he thinks he can mold him into an ace, go for it. If they think Wright can be a 1/2, then pick him. Heck, if the Twins want to think outside of the box and draft McKay as a hitter first who pitches at the back of the rotation, too, I can get behind that. But I want Gore.
  6. Turley, Trevor May and Alex Meyer are all 27 years old. Different players of course, but rhetorical question: would we be more or less likely to believe that Meyer had turned a corner and figured something out now?
  7. I've always thought it would be great to hop over to St. Paul to see Twins prospects play rather than making the trek to Beloit or Cedar Rapids, but never considered the economic competition part of the equation. Makes sense. Rochester, MN is too close...but what about Duluth? Small population in the city proper, sure, but I'd imagine a Twins minor league affiliate there would get a lot of Twins fans from surrounding outstate communities willing to drive less than an hour to games in Duluth that wouldn't consider driving the three hours to Minneapolis.
  8. I hope he has an explanation that satisfies me or he risks losing my respect. Although they might not have been the moves that I would've made, I've been able to get my head around all of the new FO's moves to this point. But this one just doesn't make any sense to me. At all.
  9. Lots of stuff to like here, but I might be most encouraged by the walk rate.
  10. This is the report on Navaretto that I remember from when he was drafted. Has anyone seen him catch in person? He's got a pretty big frame, wondering how he moves behind the plate or if his defensive rep is all based on his arm...
  11. Congrats to Watkins, a real class act who's earned it. As easy as it is to criticize the Twins for keeping too many former players in the organization after their playing days, I'm really glad they kept Watkins in the system and developed him as a coach. Hard to believe he's still only 36.
  12. I disagree. Slide Vargas over to 2B (it's only one base over) and move Sano back to his natural position of SS. Less pressure on Sano defensively will hopefully carry over and help him relax and excel at the plate. At 3B, I'd like to see the team go out and sign The Thing. The Thing is solid (he's made out of rock) and a veteran (born 1961), and would provide the solid veteran team presence the FO was looking for in Napoli. Depending on how ST plays out, I'd like to see Air Bud head north as the backup catcher. I know he's a bit raw and toolsy, but that dog is really good at catching balls and I prefer a defense-first backup catcher. And if our pitchers can start yelling "STAY!" after every pitch, Air Bud should grade out as an at least league-average pitch framer. In this scenario, Mauer still gets a handful of starts at catcher, because Joe Mauer is a catcher.
  13. These moves, along with running Hicks through waivers and Murphy leaving the team, have all the makings of a trade in the works...or TR thought he had a trade sewed up that fell through. Hear me out: Twins trade (A) SP for ( backup C and © stopgap CF. I don't think the Twins are getting anything particularly sexy back in return, mind you. Hear me out: A: The Twins have too many SP on the 25. I think the consensus around here is that it would take a team with an injury or extremely poor performance in ST/April/May to pull the trigger on someone like Nolasco or Milone. Well, it's late April. And Meyer's been starting, and he's up. B: JR Murphy should be in AAA. I don't think he's a lost cause by any stretch of the imagination, but he's lost right now. Why run your third catcher through waivers if you don't have someone better on the way to replace Murphy? Maybe because TR just traded for him, but still. C: Buxton and Kepler down, CF is left up to Rosario and Santana, Murphy requests release. Seems like the Twins sort of thing to tell a vet on a minor league deal that they weren't calling him up...because they have someone else on the way? Pure speculation, I know, and I've knocked on my coffee table enough times to put knuckle marks in the veneer, but if I were a beat writer for the Twins I'd be on the horn with whatever contacts I had at the other 29 MLB franchises right about now. I fully expect these moves to leave the 25 a bit of a cluster (fart) and nothing more...but a trade kind of makes sense, no?
  14. As upset as I initially was with May's move to the 'pen, I've started to come around a little bit. Now if the Twins can be flexible with how they use Perkins, Jepsen and May, I might be sold. I realize that's a big 'if,' though...
  15. I hope they call Meyer up ASAP; he's been pitching a lot better lately and the gut says keeping that momentum going in The Show could be absolutely huge for him.
  16. Depends on how the Rockies view Polanksi. While his sordid criminal history could make him a clubhouse cancer, he's had prominent supporters in his corner over the years, too. And while I think we can all agree that he's well past his Chinatown peak, I don't think it's unreasonable to hope for another Pianist-like late-career resurgence.
  17. With Buxton up, I wonder if the plan is for Goodrum to be the (semi) regular CF for Chattanooga. It's just one game, but I would have assumed Kepler in CF with Walker and Harrison in the corners. I was pretty high on Goodrum as a SS a couple of years ago, but at this point his ceiling is starting to look like a utility player with speed.
  18. Nolasco's career hitting line in 25 plate appearances vs. the Bucs is .381/.409/.429 (.838). No wonder Vargas got sent down.
  19. http://www.washingtonpost.com/rf/image_606w/WashingtonPost/Content/Production/Blogs/nationals-journal/Images/Mets_Nationals_Baseball_0b0ab.jpg?uuid=tA2rLtszEeCliX1CsIC5kgProbably.
  20. I haven't looked, but would assume a quick google search would come up with plenty, both in agreement and saying otherwise...there are a lot of people out there writing about baseball these days, which is a good thing. But, at least for me, it all comes down to how much trust you put in the source. I trust James and his track record, but not a lot of blind faith in anything published over a quarter century ago; there's a lot to take away from that article (and thank you for the read!) but it's definitely dated and era-specific.
