    Yup, it's 1999 still.....so eye tests over 162 games (which is what defensive metrics are) are useless, but eye tests over 30 are good. Got it. And, if the GM of a MLB really doesn't know how a metric is calculated right now? That's just not good.

    I do find it fascinating that no contender would offer him the same, or better, deal. Or maybe they did, and he really wanted to come home. I'd have rather traded Milone for Saunders, and moved Saunders to LF.

    Even strike out pitchers benefit from defense. I don't really get how saying the defense is bad somehow "excuses" pitchers. The defense is bad.

    Agreed, all Hicks needs is someone to tell him to swing more, that will fix things.

    If the Ryan quote is real.....they are going with Hicks/Shaefer? Super. It's worked so well the last two years not having a legit CF, why not try a third year? I suppose it is possible Rosario is here out of spring training, but it seems unlike the Twins to do that. No way Buxton is here for at least 2-3 months... I think, if their strategy is to abandon defense, they are still short of offense.

    Agreed. Did anyone ask TR about the defense/non-strikeout pitching staff yet? I didn't get to hear it, as I was in the dentist chair. The media here is largely a PR machine for the teams (though, in fairness, that's probably true in most cities).

    But Torii gets to make political statements and make advertisements in support of politicians based on those beliefs? That's the price you pay, if you speak up, you get asked about it. Either way, completely unprofessional to call someone a prick. Good start, Torii.

    I was told that was part of the announcement.....that Hunter would be in RF, and Arcia in LF. If not, as I said, this decreases to hate, not super hate, the move. It might even drop it to dislike.

    Not because of Young being left......that was just a better team. Like I said in another post, maybe they are just going to try to outscore everyone. It has worked for other teams.

    Look, I'm trying hard not to post about his beliefs, and the hypocrisy of his statements about very bad behavior that he finds acceptable.......but if we really want to talk about what a great guy he is, I'm sorely tempted to offer pages of links about what a great guy he isn't...... If Hunter thinks it is more likely he'll win in MN than in TX, are we supposed to admire his baseball IQ? Do people really think that MN will be better than TX next year?

    Tell that to Delmon Young, chief..... when did Arcia last play LF? If he takes bad routes, is that likely to improve seeing the ball in another angle? If he isn't super fast, is moving him to the larger field a good idea? If Hunter is gone in a year, and Arcia is your RF after that.....why not leave Arcia in RF, and move Torri, I'm a great leader and teammate and will do whatever it takes to win, to LF?

    If Hunter could still play defense.....wouldn't the Tigers have kept him, or Seattle have signed him?

    If you were a SP trying to resurrect your career.......would you come here with Arcia in LF, Hunter in RF, and ???? in CF? A guy on a 1 year deal, with upside, would you come here?
