  1. Given that Buxton was the number 1 prospect in baseball, and Sano cracked teh top 10, I'm not sure where this "fans were overvaluing them" thing is coming from....
  2. 100x this. somehow they went from "see, they are playing in the deep end" to "see, they were smart not to sign Darvish". It can't be both.....they wanted Darvish, they were no smarter than the rest of us on that front.
  3. It is certainly possibly not true. We don't really know. My hunch, even before the report, was that they had talks, so I'm inclined to believe it (to your first sentence), but we don't know. Either way, he's gone. Now they should re-sign him in the off season to back up the entire infield.
  4. Well, he can't play both positions! And Sano is your 3B to start next year, unless he moves to 1B full time...., The team is missing a MIF, a 1B, a DH. It really needs a backup 3B/1B/DH. If Castro is healthy, they won't bring in a C.
  5. Grossman is not part of a WS contending team, imo. Wade might be a backup OF on such a team. And, who the heck knows what Buxton will be next year. This team needs Wade in MN, to gather data, and to let him adjust to the majors, in case they need someone in the field next year with Rosario, Buxton, Kepler, Cave.
  6. Every single ranking site has Gordon from 50-75th best prospect overall.....even after updating their ranks in early July. He's certainly not hitting at all right now, but that does not change his tools, or approach, or whatever else.......
  7. Well, since he can't answer the question you asked, what would you like him to type? The Twins and Esobar's camp had talks, and did not come to agreement. Escobar was a free agent, on a bad team. Most FO would try to trade him, to make the system better. If they want him back, they can try to sign him in the off season. If he really did love it here, and they offer the most money, he'll be back. This is exactly the kind of thing Ryan did not do, and is part of the reason the minors were not deep enough when he left.
  8. Maybe it's not that these trades have been bad, but that lots of other things have been. IMO, your argument reads like "how good is Mike Trout, the Angels have never won anything". That might not be your intent, but that's how it reads. They could be the world's best team at making successful small trades, but if they don't draft well, and sign the right free agents, and make the right big trades....they might not win much.
  9. thanks, it only slightly changes my opinion, but it lessons it a tiny bit. Like, barely can see it, it is so small....
  10. IMO, the 8MM is irrelevant, I don't see any way, short of signing Machado or Harper, they spend their budget next year. I really think we under value certainty a lot when talking about moving to a minor league pitcher....we also under value the ability to send guys up and down. I would not be surprised if they keep him, I would not be surprised if they don't. As for the "better option"......IMO, given their depth, they aren't signing 2 (or trading for 2) new SP next year.
  11. Two points: Certainty has real value. They can be relatively sure Odorizzi will pitch 30ish games next year. That has real value. I believe ODO has an option left....so if they want, they can send him down. Bonus: He strikes me as a guy that would REALLY do well with a move to the bullpen. If htey somehow have "too many" SPs next year, I'd move him over. You can always move him back, since he's a veteran.
  12. over value Dozier? 2nd most WAR at 2B over the last three years..... No one here has called him the best 2B in the game..... Frankly, I'm baffled that teams didn't want him more than they did last year. There must be a reason, other than on field performance. He was a better 2B, 1B, DH than most teams had....
  13. I'd be shocked if they feel they need more than 1, and that would only be for one of two reasons: leadership (and I think that matters more for pitchers, but they seem to really think it matter) TOP END pitching. They are set at number 4-AAAA types.....as you point out. So, I don't agree that SP should be the primary focus. That remains MIF and 1B and C. The other option is to upgrade the OF by trading Kepler and some minor league players for a better OF, but I checked the leaderboards last night....that's harder than it seems.
  14. Fangraphs has an ever so slightly different view of Alcala.... Their overall rankings for the Twins' minors are here (and include the new players)... https://www.fangraphs.com/scoutboard.aspx?draft=&type=&pos=&team=min Overall, I like that the FO traded off guys that have expiring deals, and have plenty of depth to deal for a veteran or two next off season (or in August).
  15. You don't think if they thought he'd be good, that they would re-sign him? I'm not sure I follow.
  16. If he's in the plans, shouldn't they DFA Morrison, and get him up to MN and working on MLB pitching?
  17. I'd pay for that!* *except I don't watch the games on tv, so that would be silly of me.
  18. After Sano, I'd say how Belisle is used will indicate more about this team than I want to know.....
  19. I am irrationally excited about Kiriloff.....and want Rooker in AAA right now.
  20. No one said the players were not accountable for their performance...so I'm not srue where the "let it slide" thing comes from. I guess if I traveled with other guys for half the year, and our families were friends, yes, I'd be sad if one of them was traded. That's only human. It doesn't excuse poor performance, but it might explain it (I doubt that, actually). What the money has to do with any of this baffles me also....they are rich so they don't have feelings? There's not double standard here, imo. I can't even whiff one actually.....
  21. they had discussions with Escobar, they didn't finalize a deal. At some point, you trade him in a lost season, imo.
