  1. It's kind of hard to overuse a hitter, compared to a pitcher. They are two different animals. Most hitters don't need time off, if they do, that handicaps the teams. Pitchers? totally different, they need time off.
  2. I find it fascinating that so many would never draft a pitcher in round 1, because of injury concerns, but would commit 6-8 years on a contract to one. It seems like a disconnect. Of course, I don't agree on not drafting one early, so I'm probably more inclined to take the risk. I think it's also harder to sign Berrios than the two CLE pitchers because he already got a good bonus, not a great bonus, but a good one. Elite players are signing less and less contracts, if they are the kind that got paid at signing, because they see what happened to some of their peers. Me? I flip flop on signing Berrios to a deal, and only because of injuries. That said, I'd offer him 6-8 years, and see what happens. There is real value in certainty (or as close as baseball can come), and he's a legit very good to great pitcher. Gibson? Hmmmm......I'd offer a 4 year deal, meaning a 3 year extension. I don't think it happens, though. If I'm him, I want to be a FA in a year, unless the TWins really go big.
  3. He probably will, but from what I've read, teh quality of the pitching there has dropped the last couple years, as teams worry about injury. But, we'll see.... I agree with everyone, he should be in AAA now.
  4. Big believer in Garver. I hope he plays some 1B this year.......when not catching.
  5. QQ: What if Buxton doesn't hit again next year.....do you move Lewis to CF? does that answer change if Gordon turns it on next year, and Buxton isn't hitting?
  6. heh, well played.....but apparently those hundreds of innings are meaningless, or 4 other teams were really wrong earlier this year....or, um, something. but well played.
  7. any idea why 31 yo old new guy, cut by 4 teams already this year, didn't pitch last night instead of Garver? Buehler? Anyone?
  8. I too am guessing 2020 for both Lewis and Kiriloff......no surprise, but I'd move them both to AA right now. Challenge them and see what happens. It might be good for both to struggle for the firs time..... If they aren't in AA this year, I guess both start in FTM next year, since the weather is better than any other option in the system. This makes it more likely they play full time the first month. Then they move to AA in May/June, and AAA at the end of the year.
  9. eat more dessert, I hear it is good for you* *not actually true, mostly, but sort of, if you consider being happy good....as long as you are really happy. ** **practicing to be a lawyer someday. Or not. Probably not. But just in case.
  10. Fair....what signs do you see on the current roster that they are looking to 2019? I'm open to a different thought than I have, but I just don't see much of a youth movement.
  11. No place have I said he's guaranteed anything....in a lost season, you call guys up and give them a shot. He's out of options next year, so see if he's part of the future or not. Been very consistent on that point....gather data, and see where your holes are. And no, I don't really think Morrison is part of 2019. He's had one really good year.
  12. Austin is 26 and out of options next year. That, imo, is why he should be up this year. Because he's either here next year, or claimed when optioned, or not good enough to worry about. I'm with you on Gordon and some other young players, though.
  13. I don't really see them moving forward......there isn't much youth and inexperience on this roster, more like treading water. If they were moving forward, Morrison would be gone, and Austin would be up, for example.
  14. I agree that they won't, and I think I agree they shouldn't....but I'm not sure. That said, if they don't sign someone to huge dollars, I have no idea where the money is going next year. There are't that many FAs that are better than what the Twins have.
  15. I'm less of a fan of the current game than some past game I can only barely recall at this point. I too would like to see more balls in play, that's when stuff happens. BTW, welcome to the site!
  16. agreed. Just another example of how important luck, and things out of our control are, to success and failure at work.
  17. Winning does increase next year's attendance. I wonder what their data tells them about marginal wins in a "lost" season. So many questions we'll never know the answer to......
  18. How much more money do you think they'd make with Dozier still on the team, and let's say, winning two more games than they otherwise would, than they will now? And, will that money make any difference to their budget next year? I'm guessing that it wouldn't make any difference to next year's budget, but I could be wrong.
  19. the people in the prospect business were fans, largely, that started working in baseball (either in a clubhouse or online) and are still fans of the game, but not of teams as much as they used to be. That's from meeting some, chatting with some, and reading them. I'm not sure how that is relevant..... If I wasn't a fan, I wouldn't be here all the time, but most here would say I'm too into the metrics to be a "real" fan. Not sure what that means to you.
  20. I pretty much said the same thing.....but post after post on this site is saying the Twins are smart because they did not sign him at all, not because they offered only 5 years.
