  1. I'm worried about him being bad, but not terrible. Then ten bad starts. I don't care about the 40 man spot at all. I want upside, not, well, he can always be cut, signings. YMMV, of course.
  2. Does it matter? It's a tiny bit of money. The issue is the roster spot, imo.
  3. Does this actually move the needle? And, those aren't the fallback options this year.
  4. Maybe some of us want deals that are difference makers, not bargains or low risk. Difference makers.
  5. Some of us think they can challenge, which is why we hoped for a trade of prospects for a good pitcher. Or three RP signings from a deep class. Other than Cruz, their signings are all about value.
  6. My point was, they already proved themselves in 2017. Or do we think they need to be good two years in a row? In which case, they wouldn't try next off season either
  7. That might be true. But, in 2017 the core was good. The Twins did very little in terms of adding to the team long term. They did add some short term deals, but no big names at all. So, I hope you are right, but fear you are not.
  8. People do realize that athletes don't necessary live where they play, right? Dave ST Peter literally said this is bunk, it's about years and salary.
  9. Didn't the front office say it was a mistake to bring in guys later last year, because they were unhappy? Will it be different this year?
  10. The core had a great year in 2017. The twins made no long term signings to supplement the core. All those holes exist again this year. Why do people think if the core is great this year, it will be any different? This is who they are. A team that does not spend money over the long term. Mauer was the exception.
  11. Boston, New York, Chicago, Detroit.... They seem to attract people.
  12. The Dodgers have all stars at third and short.... And other needs. I'm not sure what people expect at all. As for taking away good times, then judging players, zero Twins would pass that unreasonable test.
  13. There's no evidence they'll sign big time free agents either. This ownership has no interest in even trying right now. No idea why anyone thinks this is a possibility.
  14. I thought they were going to be contenders? Now they are going to be selling?
  15. I'm guessing one more relief pitcher, and out of the race by the ASB, and a sell off of pitchers.
  16. Still waiting for them to sign a great pitcher.....
  17. I don't care about value. I want great players. They can cut anyone they want, as one year deals are the definition of sunk costs. Does anyone other than one poster think this is a difference maker?
  18. Or an industry where employees can't switch companies for about ten years... Counting time in the minus minors. This is all part of the contract they agree to, and has nothing to do with accountability.
  19. Great pitcher, or see what the youth can actually do. That's my preference.
  20. I can't think of one reason they need an old player in AAA. Plenty of young players need time. They have three veterans already.
  21. Cano has more than earned his money. It was a lot of bad decisions around him that hurt. Also, Houston becoming awesome fast. And LA falling into Trout.
  22. Not adding players makes it a lot less likely they will be in it at the deadline. It's a self fulfilling prophecy.... When they sell off, they'll say they just weren't quite good enough....
  23. Well, the Twins aren't rebuilt yet according to most people and projections. So, we don't know how long this will take.
  24. I'm assuming the last relief pitchers they use this year will produce negative WAR, as they have nearly every year here, so we are looking at more than a 1 WAR gain. I'd like them to try to win. If they have other ways of doing that, great. But adding wins helps more than pocketing money, at least for fans. So, if they have another way, great! But treading water does nothing but use another year of control for this group up. So, if every idea I have is unreasonable, which it might be, what is your suggestion for actually winning? I'm not interested in another year or three of waiting. Other teams have rebuilt much, much, faster.
