  1. Seems like this is bigger news than this part of the forum. This makes me think Polanco is traded..... But maybe not. They love depth
  2. I'm really surprised how many people like this idea. Are we trying to win the WS, or win this division?
  3. I can cherry pick guys that got worse.....what evidence/belief is there this one will work out? Do they USUALLY get better (I don't know, hence the question)?
  4. If you are ok HOPING he's not a number 4....that's fine. But that's a lot of money to spend on a guy that wasn't even close to good the second half of last year.....why not just go with Varland at that point and use the money elsewhere (or so you can afford to add an expensive SP at the deadline)? No one, at least not me, is saying paying big money for FA pitchers always works....but we largely ignore extensions when looking at SP contracts past 30....but those aren't any different than FA signings, not in terms of how good a SP can be. It's fine if you want to make this bet, but it's a big bet on a guy that was awful for much of last year.
  5. This. I don't want to bet on a return to greatness, I want a guy that was great last year and the year before (as he's more likely to be so again this year). Note, more likely and risk .....we can't predict the future, but we have to try.
  6. I feel bad for Hall.
  7. Ya. What contender is trading for Polanco and giving up major league players? Get a couple really good prospects, or one elite one.
  8. Do you think they'll move Varland to RP? I don't know.....I think they keep him in AAA as first man up.
  9. Also, any of those pitchers would be great....and I think they might do this this year (but I'd say 50/50)
  10. But he's the only good CF out there......I guess that's my question...where are you spending on hitters and not pitchers? This might be the year they break the pattern, given the needs and choices. Are you really spending BIG on a 1B if you have AK and Julien and Larnach and Severino as options? Maybe?
  11. What position are they spending on for hitters? There is one good CF available....don't need 3B, SS, 2B or C. Likely not spending on DH. They might need a corner OF, if they deal Kepler, but that seems unlikely. So, 1B and CF? Where are they spending real money (assuming they don't sign Bellinger)?
  12. and Wallner and Kepler and Buxton and Castro?
  13. Meh....go with Martin as the backup for Buxton (and Castro).....put your money elsewhere. (LF or RF or 1B are about it, really, as options, and CF, but there's only 1 good CF available).
  14. This isn't a hard choice at all. If someone wants to keep him on their 26 man roster all year, more power to them. Or, I believe, they can take him and then work out a deal with MN to put them on their 40 man......which, sure, why not?
  15. If he hits and walks and plays D like he did, I don't care his outs are SOs and not weak ground outs. Not even a little. If he played a full year in LF, at the rate he did this year (unlikely), he's the 2nd best LFer in the majors in terms of fWAR. It was a great year for him, if only the FO had called him up and left him up earlier....
  16. That makes sense, we just have different risk tolerance for this player.
  17. I love the ideas.....but no way I pay Bellinger for more than three years......He wasn't all that good the last few years before this one. And, at some point, he won't be all that good in CF, imo. I'd rather spend that money and Polanco's on a top end starter and take my chances in CF with Martin.
  18. Agreed. Too bad he got hurt, there might be a decent defense here....
  19. I'm not signing him for three years, no way.
  20. Sure, but that doesn't change my thoughts on the defense. So was the opposing QB today? How much did they score? I like Flores a lot..... But they aren't playing even average QBs right now.
  21. I'll say this, as much as I like Flores, they are playing bad teams....
  22. It really is amazing, the difference.
  23. Maybe he should suck too doing what he's awesome at? No one does that.... KOC still has some issues, but he seems to be overall good to very good.
