  1. 25 pitchers pitched 180 innings last year.......that's it.
  2. I'd include any SP prospect in the deal instead of SWR, frankly. Basically, the reverse of the Berrios deal, but for more years of control (hence dealing Wallner for Yellich to give MILW savings). I'd work my butt off to deal Yellich...
  3. It pains me to say it, but I'd include Lee in a deal for him. I'd even be willing to take Yellich back to give them salary relief in the process.....so, um, Lee, Wallner, SWR and who for those two? Do I even need to add more if I take back Yellich? I'd have to likely deal Polanco to free up money, but I'm ok with that.
  4. Pretty big risk signing a DH first guy with Buxton on the roster......Also, you have AK, Miranda, and maybe Julien for first. And Severino. I don't know......I'd rather spend on a CF and SP than a DH/1B at this point.
  5. It's going to take at least a two year deal, if not three.... He's one of the five best hitters available this year, which says a lot about this class.... I've changed my mind, and would be ok with signing him. I'd rather sign an elite pitcher, but they likely won't do that.
  6. I'd be happy if the Twins were in the playoffs every year like the dodgers. The Yankees have also been there nearly every year. How did not spending work for KC, Detroit, and all the other bottom dwellers? We can play this game all day. The Twins have a great starting pitcher and some real talent.... But it's unlikely they'll be as healthy in pitching next year. They have no one to replace Gray. And they weren't good enough last year. I think most people expect this team to win the division again, but is that the goal? Do people think cutting spending and not replacing Gray is a great idea?
  7. correct. Also, it takes a long time to change an opinion once formed, and until this FO, well, cheap was likely earned at least many years....
  8. so called? I mean, this isn't going to sit well the most casual fans, and even some/many serious ones. Those casual fans make or break the profitability......
  9. Made me smile......I'm not sure I'd allocate funds that way, but I understand.
  10. Did you read the quotes from the team? Because it seems clear they are lowering payroll....
  11. I get that......but who is ready in AAA in case someone gets hurt, if not Varland?
  12. He's been less healthy than Buxton.....I get the idea, I really do, but he literally spent two years not playing and only played (less than) half of this last year. Are we really sure he'll be healthy? I don't know....It's a pretty big risk.
  13. They just won the division and a playoff series, and you think this is a transition year? Lopez is here and healthy.....why would you NOT try to get better next year? I don't understand this part of your post.
  14. I think this also guarantees varland stays a starter. They aren't spending huge money on a free agent, marking the guy they get is higher risk to be great, meaning they need the depth. That's my theory anyway. Typical Twins to throw cold water on the fans immediately after success. Sigh.
  15. I'm guessing closer to 125, maybe lower, than 140. I'm guessing Polanco is dealt for a pitching prospect or two. I'd rather keep Farmer because he can play SS..... But he is traded soon, I'd guess. They'll deal prospects for a more veteran pitcher, since they have more prospects after dealing Polanco and Farmer. Max will remain on the roster.
  16. Seems like this is bigger news than this part of the forum. This makes me think Polanco is traded..... But maybe not. They love depth
  17. I'm really surprised how many people like this idea. Are we trying to win the WS, or win this division?
  18. I can cherry pick guys that got worse.....what evidence/belief is there this one will work out? Do they USUALLY get better (I don't know, hence the question)?
  19. If you are ok HOPING he's not a number 4....that's fine. But that's a lot of money to spend on a guy that wasn't even close to good the second half of last year.....why not just go with Varland at that point and use the money elsewhere (or so you can afford to add an expensive SP at the deadline)? No one, at least not me, is saying paying big money for FA pitchers always works....but we largely ignore extensions when looking at SP contracts past 30....but those aren't any different than FA signings, not in terms of how good a SP can be. It's fine if you want to make this bet, but it's a big bet on a guy that was awful for much of last year.
  20. This. I don't want to bet on a return to greatness, I want a guy that was great last year and the year before (as he's more likely to be so again this year). Note, more likely and risk .....we can't predict the future, but we have to try.
  21. I feel bad for Hall.
  22. Ya. What contender is trading for Polanco and giving up major league players? Get a couple really good prospects, or one elite one.
