  1. Epic comeback by KC. Wish I had seen it!
  2. Yeah not only that, but this is the same thing that happened to Morneau. So, two Twins in two years with pretty devastating injuries on this exact play. You can judge Morneau's and Swisher's slides for yourself. They look pretty similar to me. No where near as rotten as Utley's however. http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/0/v9761163/min-tor-morneau-leaves-the-game-after-getting-hurt http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/0/v13555283/min-nyy-nishioka-injured-on-swisher-s-takeout-slide
  3. Twinkie Town had millions of unique visitors to their site to answer a poll question?
  4. mikeg, some people feel that reason and logic aren't working, so why not try politics. It would be a refreshing change if the next school shooter only had a couple plinking pistols at his disposal. There might not be any deaths in that instance. Military grade weapons need to be off limits. Not banned but certainly restricted somehow. Nobody is allowed to drive a military tank down the street. Everyone knows there are 2nd amendment issues we need to work out. If Reagan can be won over to the side of some level of gun control/accountability, then the NRA and the right should be open to that also. But for anything to work, we do need Democrats to show some fortitude and quit being intimidated, however. Lots of Democrats are gun owners so it's not really a political issue, but making it political is worth a try in some minds. It could also be a public health issue.
  5. ! I think you are implying the Miguel Sano could easily find himself on that list? If so, where would you insert him? Between Mike Lamb and Matt Macri?
  6. wow that's quite a free agent class, I didn't realize that!!!!! :) get busy Ryan!
  7. Sano played shortstop as a kid. He can play third. Even if Sano is a little sloppy at first, he will figure it out before long. Plouffe was a hack at third base when he first moved there.
  8. Johnny Cueto and Ervin Santana could be "the dreaded Dominicans" Though I think those are technically braids swinging around back there... It would be like Spahn and Sain, pray for rain!
  9. Royals win game two 5-4. Series tied at 1-1. Cueto was mediocre. Royals fell behind but battled back. Lots of funny weird plays. Game 3 in Houston at 3 PM Sunday. Keuchel has been unhittable at home for Houston.
  10. I see your point, but only Hamilton belongs in that group you put Mauer in. Fielder and Cano have actually been really healthy in their careers and sustained the their offensive output better than Joe has. To your second point about Plouffe, I agree.
  11. Liked comment, didn't need to read further
  12. Is Plouffe's .220 average against fastballs (thanks for letting the cat out of the bag, by the way) something to be concerned about, or just an anomaly? It seems like one of those stats that's so obvious that maybe the opposing pitching coaches might not see it. "Their #5 hitter can't hit fastballs" is not something you would expect to hear very often.
  13. I can buy that answer, but you are being extremely optimistic about Berrios and Duffey, and extremely pessimistic that Lester will suddenly decline, despite much if any evidence. And remember we are also arguing about organizational philosophy too. In other words, Berrios is still a minor league pitcher, and Duffey gets no "scholarship" going into 2016. Those guys will have to beat out any Mike Pelfreys that Ryan decides to sign for 2016, not to mention the #3-5 types who are already on staff (Gibson, Milone, Nolasco) etc and who have the inside edge.
  14. I think adding Kepler would probably tip the scale against making that trade, but I'd part with the other guys for an actual #1 for a couple more years. (Setting aside that Hamels could veto a trade to Minnesota if he wanted)
  15. And false tonight too, I would guess........
  16. And you think those two Twins aces will be.........who?
  17. A short blurb from 1909 that ran on page 4 of the Princeton Union of Princeton Minn: ________________________ ."To show that Japan is making rapid progress. in. the. American. game. of baseball. it is only necessary to state that. in. Tokio. alone. seven.. umpires have. already. been. trampled. in. the dust for alleged crooked decisions." . ________________________ Source: The Princeton Union. Princeton, Minn. 18. I'd almost rather have a rotation of Gibson, Meyer, Berrios, Duffey, Nolasco--the five guys you left off* That's why I'm not sure Ryan should have his sights set on a starting pitcher, unless he's truly of the Johnny Cueto ace type of pitcher. I was even a little stunned when Ervin Santana was signed. *not really, but it sounded good
  19. It was more like "Yankee fatigue" for me. I still couldn't hate. As Dan Barreiro might say, "I am aroused by excellence." And as you pointed out, by the time the Twins got good and started losing to them in the ALDS, it was more like "damn you Twins" than hating the Yankees. At least for me anyway.
  20. ^^Good thing nobody said this.* *This is usually Leviathan's line but I'll take it this time
  21. Also if the Twins had somehow ended up with Kyle Schwarber in the 2014 draft, does anyone really believe he'd be starting in a playoff game the following season? More likely he'd be another top 10 prospect having a great year in the minors somewhere, ETA 2017. Organizational philosophy.
  22. I believe the Twins are pretty set in their ways and unlikely to change. That doesnt make us a negative nelly and we can continue to love them. Not sure the Twins are capable any more of finding guys like Collin McHugh or Jake Arrieta, who were castoffs and magically turning them into dominant pitchers. But if J.R.Graham or Alex Meyer becomes that guy in a year or two I will gladly eat my words. Molitor is a lone voice in the wilderness decrying the upward trend in strikeouts, while the Cubs and Astros lead the majors in strikeouts and wear it proudly. Win loss records are similar this year but organizational philosophies are completely different.
  23. I got a message saying the audio is disabled when it detects Yankees sentimentality, so it wouldn't have mattered.
  24. You didn't hear the violins in the background of post?
