  1. You make a reasonable point about Rooker not contributing in 2019. However I can't quite reconcile that he will both 1. not be part of the calculus in 2019, but 2. the Twins will nevertheless know his fate by the end of 2019. I'd put his odds at greater than 50/50 that he debuts in 2019 (assuming good health, etc).
  2. Maybe we will be surprised. Payroll was always going to be high (“high” in quotes) with Mauer’s 2010 contract on the books. I think we’ll see it dip quite a bit this year.
  3. The writer of that article, with all due respect, seems to lack local insight into the team he is writing on. Not just the payroll part, which I am confident will not sniff anywhere near $125 million.
  4. True, it's reasonable to not count on Rooker much at all, let alone to start the season. But he's 24 and in the high minors so I'd be surprised if we didn't see him at some point. And maybe not at first base, maybe I'm being optimistic.
  5. I feel the opposite about first base. I think they have plenty of coverage. I was fine with Tyler Austin, some Sano, with Rooker getting a call-up and maybe Kepler getting time there in platoon situations. Picking up this new guy just seems redundant, unless they plan to move one of the above guys.
  6. Yes that's another thing I don't understand about this pick-up. Although Rooker does have a tiny bit more flexibility to play the outfield* *not sure how good he actually is at either position
  7. Two different halfs
  8. Agree. They were too afraid to leave time for Green Bay. It looked obvious to me.
  9. I think Rodgers really wanted the ball snapped because he saw something. A break for the Vikings, maybe.
  10. Lewis compares very well with Correa and Lindor — there was a thread last summer. That puts Lewis’s timeline at about early to mid 2020, with immediate production. At shortstop.
  11. Actually, his World Series at bats weren't that bad overall, despite not getting a hit. He's past his peak and by the end was a role player for the Dodgers. Yes, he was streaky with the Twins, but actually played his best ball after signing an extension. Anyway, this is not the thread for that and I was responding to a comment of yours that required a response. I was playing by your rules: "Shine the spotlight on him and he falls to pieces." So I used the high viewership examples of the All Star game and playoffs.
  12. Any of my future Paul Goldschmidt posts will be posted in the "ex-Twins in the Boxscores" thread.
  13. Nonsense. He homered in the All Star game, and he homered in his first post-season at bat, in the wild card game.
  14. James Paxton for a TINSTAAPP and an A ball masher. The eagle has landed!
  15. what “consequences” do you want to see?
  16. Who the hell is he throwing to?
  17. I was waiting for the GB-CHI game from early in the season when Chicago pissed away a nice lead in the 2nd half. Not gonna happen here.
  18. Ok, I agree. I also think if that happens, yes it should create turmoil and tension-just my opinion.
  19. Not sure why she would want Republican votes, or why she would want to upset the newly elected Democrats who pledged not to support her. There's gotta be a better solution than that.
  20. So apparently members of either party can cast a vote for Speaker. Is that true? I thought it was just a majority party thing. But that helps explain all the Trump tweets about Pelosi deserving to be speaker. Aside from the fact that I prefer someone other than Pelosi to be speaker, I can't picture a world where she becomes speaker with Republican votes. Oy.
  21. If you are pro-Pelosi remaining as speaker, then I venture to say you will enjoy Josh Marshall’s running editorials at TPM https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/do-the-dems-need-nancy-pelosi I personally think now is a good time for change. After all, Pelosi surely has the good of the party in mind, no? She recognizes the so-called wave election we just had, and will offer to help the new speaker be successful to pursue a good agenda. Or is an absolute grip on power of the House the most important thing to her?
  22. Good posts. I’m intrigued, but yeah it could go sideways.
  23. There's nothing Pohlad would enjoy more, than a season or two without Mauer's albatross contract inflating payroll. Source: me.
