  1. In other news, Assistant GM Rob Antony just found out about Kris Bryant from the Cubs, so Antony logged in to his Yahoo fantasy baseball team (from his work computer---dangerous) to put in a waiver claim, but Bryant was already taken!
  2. Hopefully the pitching staff will continue to give us good starts while the offense gets back on track. We are already seeing Plouffe getting better at bats. The starting pitchers should also consider this a tryout, since Santana will be returning soon. Tonight's the night we turn it around!
  3. Another sign his head isn't in the right place is his decisions in the field. On Monday night the pitcher squared to bunt in a sacrifice situation and lined a hard bunt on an easy hop to Mauer who was already rushing in to field it. Joe had an eternity to pivot and throw to 2nd to force the lead runner and I'm sure Suzuki was yelling second base. (Actually I'm not sure about that.) Instead, Joe waited for the pitcher to jog up the line further and then eventually applied a tag. Maybe Suzuki didn't call the right base. Maybe Joe has self-doubt about making that 270 degree pivot and long throw to second. Maybe he forgot the game situation once the ball was put in play. Either way, Mauer's baseball sense didn't seem to be working on that play.
  4. Alright who is bold enough to predict a ground ball double play
  5. Idle game thread comment, interrupted by game action. I hate that!
  6. I will sell you something between innings. Just send me your credit card info, and we'll figure out the product later.
  7. probably Meanwhile, in "Mauer makes another bad play" news...
  8. Buxton might be the fastest guy in MLB. I always wondered if people were exaggerating when they said he could beat out a routine hard grounder to the shortstop. I can't wait to see him in person.
  9. Good to know. I will try to stop in sometime. It's amazing to me how many employees at places like Champps and BWW look stunned when you suggest they might consider flipping one of their 50,000 tv's off of ESPN News and on to a Minnesota sporting event. And that there are managers who apparently have no clue either. You are working in sports bars, people!
  10. Are you sure Buxton's ground out to third base was a dribbler? It looked like a hard grounder or even a line drive on a hop. The third baseman threw to first immediately and Buxton still almost beat it out. I'd love to see video again. I've never seen anyone get down the line that fast.
  11. Nice list. I remember shortly after Bryce Harper was called up, Cole Hamels welcomed him with a baseball in the ribs. "Welcome to the big leagues, kid." When Harper reached third base later in the inning, he stole home off Hamels straight from the delivery. "Nice to meet you too, Mr. Hamels." I expect so such drama surrounding Buxton today
  12. I can try to answer this for you. Because Stauffer wasn't brought on as organizational depth. He was offered a major league contract with those generous incentives. For example. Two guys the Twins used extensively the past couple seasons were Jared Burton and Kevin Correia. This year, both have been pitching for minor league affiliates on minor league contracts signed in spring training, not in December. They have both bounced around multiple organizations already in 2015, pitching mostly in AAA. Neither has appeared in MLB yet this year. They have had good careers but they are organizational depth now. Yet the Twins relied on them heavily as important contributors just last year. We hit a nice little jackpot with Pelfrey, but the next test will be how the Twins negotiate with him after the season. Yes, young guys have made the Twins lineup in recent years and some have flourished, some not. It doesn't invalidate the point that this organization seriously overvalues decline phase veterans. That could be a problem going forward with so many prospects on the verge.
  13. He's signed through 2018. He's not getting traded. My hunch is he retires after 2018 but puts together at least one more great season. Also there should be at least one postseason by that time.
  14. I also see an irrational soft spot for older reclamation guys no one else wants. (Not that I consider anyone in their 30's old.) It's a nice personal quality but a huge problem for someone in Terry Ryan's position trying to field a competitive MLB team.
  15. It looks like Plouffe has already been tinkering with his batting stance in those gifs, which are only two days apart. He typically bats more upright (I had to look at some MLB highlight videos) but is more hunched over in the Boston at bat. I think Plouffe will battle through it. Arcia had a streak like this last year. Speaking of...
  16. Good job with the mock picks. My boy Josh Graham of Oregon, the guy who wants to be a starting pitcher and then be starting catcher on his off days, was taken by the Braves in the 4th round, 120 overall. Mariano Rivera, son of Mariano Rivera, went at the end of the 4th round (Washington).
  17. Great draft preview. http://twinsdaily.com/_/minnesota-twins-news/twins-draft-preview-10-round-twins-mock-r3726 That's the guy I want.
  18. I'm not as down on the catching situation as others, and I get the sense the Twins are perfectly happy with it. Thus I've given up on the idea of seeing Pinto at all, barring significant injury to Herrmann or Suzuki, even though Pinto is the best hitter of that group.
  19. Great stuff. Enjoy those road trips.
  20. What about Plan C.... Escobar? Going into spring training I seem to remember a debate between Ryan and Molitor about what to do with Santana and Escobar. (Admittedly you really have to read between the lines in their public statements.) seemed like Ryan was ok with Santana back in CF as a stop gap and Escobar as full time SS, but Molitor's idea won out, with Santana getting a full time audition at SS and Escobar as utility. I agree completely that Santana should be moved off short. Two months is plenty of time to show something. You might have seen the game last Friday when the Jays pounded Trevor May and came back to win. Right before Donaldson's three run bomb, a Jays player hit a line drive to short which Santana (good positioning, by the way) jumped for, but didn't catch. It hit the bottom heel of Santana's glove, as opposed to the top of the webbing. Might have been one less run scored against us if Santana makes that nice catch. Little plays like that don't show up in the box score. I think Santana also got picked off by Buehrle that game too.
  21. Nice analysis, if not exactly comforting. Who were the top performers on that K rate list? Just curious.
