  1. Some interesting comparisons, since Dickerson is a lefty-hitting outfielder, and the Twins currently have 3 of those. MLB slash lines (outside of Coors Field): Dickerson, 483 PA: 249/286/410, OPS 695 O. Arcia, 853 PA: 243/305/437, OPS 741 Rosario, 474 PA: 267/289/459, OPS 748 Age Kepler, 23 Rosario, 24 Arcia, 25 Dickerson, 27 Health Kepler, ok Rosario, ok Arcia, ok Dickerson, plantar fasciitis Quick and dirty fielding rank (UZR/150), selected for min. 600 innings from 2014-2015: Rosario, 35 of 144 C. Dickerson, 115 of 144 Oswaldo Arcia, 118 of 144
  2. As always, it depends on who you ask and when you ask it.
  3. Interesting that Tampa Bay just traded away Jake McGee. The Twins would have seemed to be a great trading partner. Plenty of young outfielders in our system, which was what McGee sold for. The Rays also look light at catcher. I wonder if the Twins might have sweetened the pot last year when they traded for Jepsen and got back McGee instead.
  4. Good to see Eddie and Dozier together. Hoping that's the DP combo again this year. I'm a little unclear on whether you said Dozier is planning to hire a nutritionist this year, or did last year, or if the Twins don't have decent options available inside the clubhouse, or what. Doesn't matter; sounds like you had fun.
  5. Your bullpen comments are a real gut check. I agree with you on the bullpen controversy this year, though it's yet to be seen how that turns out. I could honestly care less how high or low the team payroll is, so long as they are putting the best players on the field and winning. Most of the best players are making the least amount, anyway.
  6. True, Rosario has poor peripherals but he produces. He might have to make a trip back to Rochester for a time. His outfield assists are impacting opponents base running. I feel Rosario is our present and future left fielder and I would be disappointed if the Twins didn't see it that way too (save for a possible injury or demotion at some point)
  7. 8:34 set cell phone back on night stand8:35 back to sleep
  8. You traded Plouffe and opened third for Sano, which was the big thing. Next up on Day 2: mike wants wins becomes GM for the day........
  9. In prior off seasons, Meyer did substitute teaching, if I recall correctly. This offseason he got married and I presume took a honeymoon and got his mind off baseball. Next offseason he runs for city council in Rochester, N.Y. (kidding about that last one). I am very much a pro-Meyer guy and hope he has some good innings in ST and either way he needs to be brought north, I believe.
  10. Yes and thank you for not repeating the old cliche that he "needs to stay healthy." Meyer has actually been pretty healthy in his career except for the precautionary rest he took in 2013 for his shoulder. You cited his good ERA and BA-against when he was sent to the Bullpen. Then, in his final 10 appearances, going off memory, he had something like 22 innings, 25 base runners (half hits, half walks), 22 strikeouts, and a pretty good 30%+ strikeout rate. Maybe last September would have been a good time to have him up here, while he's pitching fairly well. My feeling is if Meyer pitches well in spring training the Twins really need to make a spot for him and use him right away in roles that are a little more important than first inning mop up duty (as was the case in his MLB debut). He was hailed as an ace when he was traded for. Too early to give up on him or pigeonhole him in the BP.
  11. By the time Mauer is eligible, he will probably be considered the guy who dominated his position between the Pudge years and Posey years, and probably not as good as either. And as Ted wrote, Mauer needs to turn around his hitting significantly and sustain it, or it will be a rough road.
  12. On the other hand, nobody anywhere has ever pulled out their smartphones to record video of a Mike Pelfrey or Kyle Lohse at bat.
  13. He could choose the Mike Pelfrey or Kyle Lohse route..... oh wait those guys are pitchers
  14. I think the person who comes out looking the best in this situation is Miguel Sano for being a good sport about it.
  15. I'm bullish on the bullpen. Your mileage may vary. I thought that the bullpen would improve for 2016 simply by doing nothing (namely, parting ways with Boyer, Duensing and maybe even Fien), but that's provided smart decisions are made going forward about the other guys. I'm optimistic about guys like Pressly, Burdi, and Meyer, if not on Day 1 then soon after. I'm partial to O'Rourke in a LOOGY role, big league slider and 38% K rate against lefties, though Molitor justifiably lost confidence in him after that Yankee series. Tonkin has a career ERA of 3.35 but its more like 12.94 in games I've watched him. Throw in Chargois and whoever else you want, and it gets even more crowded. I think there is enough in the system to give us good choices, but there is certainly room for a high quality sign or trade, too.
  16. I think they are way too optimistic on their high end projection for Park (Kris Bryant? really?) though granted some of the Kris Bryant projections can get ridiculous themselves. Otherwise yeah interesting new site to check out.
  17. I assume your strike zone and contact rate stats are the MLB stats? I'm not sure I want to see his minor league rate stats from last year. They are no doubt awful. So much to say about this guy. Platoon and stringer bell said it well, as did otwins, because I agree I just don't see what playing time Arcia gets other than as an occasional bench bat. Which is a shame because he can destroy right handed pitching. It's the one thing he does well, but best case, he can do it exceptionally well. By acquiring Park and Palka, on top of all the other guys striking out increasingly, the Twins can no longer cite strikeouts as a knock against Arcia. By planning to use Sano in the outfield, poor defense cannot be used against Arcia. Sure Arcia is emotional and excitable, but maturity comes with time. That's why I agree with your overall argument but disagree with your conclusion, as I think it's the burden of the Twins to capitalize on Arcia's single talent, rather than the opposite, of Arcia having to prove himself. He already has proved himself, in my opinion.
  18. I think O'Rourke is underrated. That is a devastating slider he has.
  19. Good job. I agree (mostly) and if Buxton is ready for the leadoff spot, we will be golden. Just a technical point--I don't think the Twins were dabbling with the idea of Tulowitzki, but more like the Twins Daily posters were dabbling with it. and in our defense, Danny Santana was still the starting shortstop at that time. Escobar didn't take over for good until the final days of July.
  20. Right. Sometimes you just need to accept a guy's quirks as long as he's getting the job done.
  21. But what if he doesn't pitch well, or doesn't pitch at all?
  22. As stated, as long as the key word is 'temporary,' I can get behind this move. If May struggles in the bullpen, we can always demote him back to the starting rotation? The bullpen keeps filling up, however. The order of relievers is now Jepsen, May, Perkins, Fien, Abad. I agree with spy that Abad seems to be virtually a lock. I don't see Abad as an upgrade over O'Rourke but to each their own. No idea where all the other guys listed above fit in to this. It will be interesting to see who Ryan cuts this spring. He's been adding more than subtracting, so there will have to be some surprising names.
  23. I pant at the prospect of his bat... if that means he plays in the outfield for the first 6-8 innings most nights, I can live with that. Arcia may be bad, but it's not like he's Kyle Schwarber bad
  24. Do the Twins promote college relievers too slowly? Anyone have any data comparisons?
