  1. Bad taste to use that irony at another player's expense I guess... I will shake it off and get 'em next time up
  2. Reason #42 to the list I am creating - thanks
  3. I just had a terrifying thought. What if the Twins win tonight on a 9th inning walk off? There would certainly be a mob scene on the field, with Gatorade buckets, gloves all over, pies in the face, and the hero being lifted off on the shoulders of his elated teammates to the cheers of all. Please Twins don't let that happen; win this game early!
  4. Sacrifice bunt attempt on second batter of the inning ties a major league record for soonest sacrifice bunt attempt in an inning.
  5. Just be sure to check in on the score of the game. If the Twins are losing and on their way to 0-10, just tell her you have to end the date early so you can go online and keep us company on the game thread. Sounds like a plan?
  6. In this case, it doesn't vary, not by much.
  7. Not sure. Because those three last year don't count in the standings against us anymore?
  8. I will admit, it is perversely interesting to go back and re-read threads or jump into a new thread, and see people complain about 0-7 or not to worry about being 0-6
  9. I am perfectly fine with Buxton, Rosario, and Kepler being shuttled to and from Rochester this season, if that's what is needed for them. However, the core group of KC guys: Gordon, Hosmer, Moustakas, Salvadore Perez, and not counting rehabs, were only sent down to the minors twice between them all. One of those times was ironically a two month stint for Alex Gordon to switch from 3B to outfield. I definitely agree with Mike by asking why our guys can't come up and produce immediately, like these other guys. In the end, I don't think anyone will question it or care that they were wrong back in 2016 if the Twins eventually get the same results as the Royals.
  10. He clearly has done or said something offensive or personal against Molitor or Ryan. That's what I'm going with. Because the excuse in the past for not playing him was he struck out too much. His defense isn't great but it's not as bad as people portray it to be. I wish someone would explain it to the rest of us rubes.
  11. The 1991 Twins did indeed start 2-9. The problem with that comparison is that at 0-8, the current Twins would have to go 2-1 over their next three games, which seems unlikely The problem with the football analogy is that the logic is starting to break down more with every loss. If the Twins lost their first 20 games or started something like 3-18, we wouldn't say that it's like a football team starting 0-2. What ashburyjohn said on another thread seemed pretty insightful. Another TD poster suggested that last years blowout games at the start were more of a wake up call than the close games we are playing this year, where we are in every game but just missing. Whatever the case. Starting a season so poorly is a bad sign. Perhaps in years to come we will look back on this and laugh, but at the moment it hardly seems possible.
  12. It is frustrating that this is the third consecutive year Perkins has gotten hurt and then subsequently said he needs to be smarter in the future about pitching with an injury. Unti he can throw many consecutive fastballs at 94+ and feel good, he probably shouldn't be put into a close ballgame. Who knows when that will be. I'm sure the Twins will say all the right things and claim he is still the closer. It's sad, because when he was on, he was lights out and you could bank on it.
  13. I seem to recall Molitor overusing guys last year and not using other guys hardly at all (like Stauffer)... But now that I think of it, O'Rourke was one of the guys he didn't trust so never mind
  14. If Molitor doesn't trust everyone in his bullpen, then maybe it's a better idea to have a loogy like O'Rourke on the roster who only has to pitch to one batter a game anyway.
  15. Which leads to a better question: why was Tonkin brought north at all, then?
  16. This is good data and I followed the links, but I have to agree with LaBombo in that there are some validity issues, mainly that these articles and data are primarily focused on the relationship between production, aging, and they don't really get to the topic of how changing positions is going to affect the injury risk of our big, whiffing slugger. Also, who knew there was a team called the San Francisco Padres? small details and stuff https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hO9cuW2gX1ViAL-SA7LP5ggLHvs5POHY2po1oneetTE/edit#gid=4 I will continue to believe that the most pertinent data points are right in front of our face: Kyle Schwarber's ligaments and Danny Santana's hamstring. To that data we can add the near collision between You Know Who and You Know Who on a fifth inning single on Monday. At least that play took place in slow motion and it would have looked more like a clumsy embrace with at worst somebody getting a bloody lip, than what happened between Schwarber and Fowler in Chicago. But thanks again for the links. It's obvious that we all care about this issue even though we might disagree on the risk and its overall importance in the grand scheme.
  17. Arcia strikes out too much, and Kepler hasn't completed his orientation paperwork yet. Hope that help!
  18. I really don't like the idea of losing Arcia's bat, and Sano deserves at least a fighting chance to show he can or cannot become a serviceable 3B, but as an omnibus legislative bill, all or none, take it or leave it, I will accept your changes and vote in favor. Now get to work on bullpen legislation.
  19. I'll buy your ticket and give you $20 bucks spending money. PM me.
  20. We needed one of these today..... http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oULt45Vgx_Q/VnnrBSkdJnI/AAAAAAAAAZI/W3pglK2JLyA/s1600/Star-wars-baseball-gif.gif
