Good question. Could be 1, 2, 3, some combination, or none of the above. I understand Arcia is erratic in the field and will never be as good as the average or median outfielder. But. But, actually when Arcia played in right field, he was capable of making some nice plays. That seems to be a more natural position for him. His best play was the soft fly or liner towards the foul line, on his glove side, when he could initiate a full-out run towards the ball without worrying about running into anybody, and then make a sliding catch of it. Here is one example. Those are plays Hunter does not make. People are contributing to this myth that Arcia is the worst outfielder in the major leagues, when he's really not even that close. Even Hunter was worse than Arcia in 2014. If the Twins are smart, they will walk over to the shredder and feed Arcia's entire 2015 season into it. Someone in the office should tell him he has a future here. Give him the inside shot to win the RF job next season and platoon him against lefties. Substitute him from the game in the late innings when favorable. -
Automate the strike zone, and everyone gets the same one, whether you are ben revere or Miguel Sano. The home plate umpire is still back there watching the pitch, like the article said. The umpire's clicker lights up and vibrates if the ball passes through the strike zone. The umpire then calls a strike just like he does now. No jobs are lost. Nobody even really notices anything different. I give it < 10 years.

Well, I'm a Mauer fan, not a Mauer basher. I think something creative needs to be done with Mauer, and soon. Can anybody here see him playing first base and batting second or third, for each of the next 3 seasons? Maybe Mauer and Ryan and the Pohlads can figure something out together. I honestly thought Vargas was outplaying Mauer at 1B earlier in the season, or at least not being outplayed by Mauer. Vargas has played 1B his whole life and can get better with time, like Morneau did. I honestly don't think Joe has developed an instinct for it yet, though. By the time he does, if he does, it will be the end of his contract. Going forward, who is the better bet at first base? And then, yeah, there's that other long list of problems. I would start on that by giving most of the catching reps in September to Pinto once he's cleared to play.

I can see it now, we'll have October baseball 2 years from now, it will be game 1 of the ALCS, Trevor May starting game one, and the ESPN broadcasters have to describe to the audience why May's nickname is "The Vulture"!!!

I am ready to see Hicks lead off and Dozier bat second. Escobar makes a good 9 hitter. That should give RBI chances to Dozier when he comes around again.

Pelfrey exited the game with a one run lead, I believe, and one runner on base. The go ahead run that scored was charged to the reliever, so no, Pelfrey would not have been charged with the loss. I think.

Hicks has got to be literally the hottest hitter in the league.

I don't know if the coaches aren't getting scouting reports, or if Pelfrey is only comfortable throwing certain pitches, or if Suzuki isn't calling good pitches, or what.

If Sano hadn't hit that so hard, Escobar might have been able to score from first. Interesting Fox North camera showed Glynn was waving Escobar home, but Escobar was running to second so saw the ball in front of him when it was hit, and he knew he would have been nailed if he tried to score. UPDATE Plouffe grounded out to end inning so didn't matter

It's a fine line, for sure. But what Kansas City does is straight up retaliation, unfortunately.

I wonder if pitching inside can really be taught. It's not for everyone. Sure you can call for inside pitches. It might be more of a personality trait though, to throw brushbacks at the appropriate time, bust a guys hands or take back ownership of the inside part of the plate when you feel you might lose it. Not sure. It's been a long time since the Twins have done it well.
