    Agree, we've been through so much with Hicks that he is almost untradeable. I'm not 100% sure we will slip under .500 though.

    I wasn't looking at Mauer's recent OPS when I made that comment. I was going off of the recent statistic that in Mauer's last 19 games he's had 2 RBI. That's a pace for 20 RBI in 190 games, or for Mauer, 20 RBI in one and a half seasons. Sorry for the confusion.

    I do agree with chief on this one. It wasn't a intentional walk situation. There were two out and they were losing by a fistful of runs, and as Glunn said, Hicks worked the count in his favor. So they walked him to pitch to Mauer who has been struggling in RBI situations.

    Mauer lined a single to center. The CF trapped it but it was a legitimate hit.

    Ryan hasn't had much to work with in 2.0 Ryan got Escobar for Liriano. Escobar if used right could be a full time shortstop. Ryan also got Milone for a player he picked up on the waiver wire. Milone's not going to win a Cy Young but there is still a place for the proverbial crafty lefty in MLB. Those are the two that come to mind. There's a little more pressure on Ryan this time. Both because the talent he's sitting on and the pennant race the Twins found themselves in (and in no way should concede). I hope Ryan is taking the need for bullpen help seriously.

    I don't know. I think a team would accept Nolasco in a trade if we eat his entire salary. (Only half tongue in cheek). Of course maybe that's what Ryan is doing and everyone is then immediately hanging up on him?

    What about Shawn Kelley from the Padres? He has a 27% K rate and immediately becomes our best righty by a million miles. He is also pitching for a contract (sounds nicer than saying "rental"). If the Padres want to throw in Shields for Nolasco, all the better.

    In hindsight, I wonder if Colorado might have accepted a deal for Tulo in exchange for something like Trevor May, Danny Santana, and one of our can't miss pitching prospects in A ball who are nevertheless 24 years old but still in A ball. Tulowitzki would be a nice bridge to Nick Gordon. Not to mention when he's on the field he's perhaps the very best there is at the position. Not to mention, this whole rumor got started because supposedly Dozier and Tulowitzki hit it off great together at the All Star game, and the Twins openly state that chemistry is an important factor in their roster construction. *sigh*

    I know Milone was pitching well but I wish they would have removed him before Arod's 2nd homer. I only say that in hindsight since I wasn't paying close attention at that point. Perkins and Suzuki are cerebral guys. They need to be smarter than that last night. They threw him a thigh high fastball right down the middle. Perkins said he was surprised Arod swung at the first pitch. Weak excuse in my opinion.

    I actually was not as bothered with last night's loss as much as the 7-0 loss the night before. Last night was close. (Though I didn't see the whole thing straight through). Guys had some good at bats at the wrong times last night. Angels made some plays. Pelfrey got knocked around a little but didn't implode like Gibson and Boyer the night before. May pitched fine (needs to be moved back into rotation now.) Pujols gets a double off May off the end of his bat that looked better than it was, and May came back next inning and dominated. Rosario threw a guy out tagging. They picked a guy off second. There were signs of life.

    Agreed, restraint wouldn't be the worst thing, as adding Sano and Ervin Santana is pretty big itself. However, there is still a logjam of valuable young corner infield/outfield guys that we don't have room to play.

    Escobar is a much better option than Santana right now. Escobar looked clumsy last night, but so did every other infielder. At least Escobar has competitive at bats and worked that leadoff walk last night in the 6th when the game was still close.
