    There could definitely be a tie-in with the sock theme. a Penobscot, with the name Louis Sockalexis, played for the early Cleveland teams back around 1900 before they were known as the Indians.     I also think the clock stopped a tick before it should have. Then again, it was amazing how well the Bucs rushed up to the line and got set, snapped, and spiked it. It’s obvious they have practiced it, over and over. I couldn’t tell you if the Vikings ever practice defending that Hail Mary—it doesn’t look like Davis has in a while, anyway. Either that or he just completely lost his head for a moment. Also possible.

    I’ve heard that too, can’t remember where, but if changing their name was the best way to disassociate from the mascot, then it seems pretty straightforward. I thought they should have done it after 2016, the year they nearly won the series, myself. Might have been easier on some of the fans to do it in a feel good moment.

    Okay true but this game could go sideways on you in a hurry, considering what the Twins have done (or not done) in the postseason.

    Cousins is winning me back, by showing heart and making better throws, trying to be more mobile even though that’s not his game, and picking up some nice first downs on the ground. Didn’t see much of it yesterday but the radio guys were saying throughout that Dalvin looked off. These have been ugly games, “last team with the ball loses”, but they will probably rise up and play Tampa Bay to the wire next week. Although I think their record against Brady is 0-and-forever.

    The Dodgers went to the World Series that year. Tough crowd. But let’s wait and see what becomes of the Kenta Maeda—Luke Raley trade, as it’s come to be known here. Bottom line: Who was the winner of the Brian Dozier trade? Brian Dozier, and it’s not that close.

    Eddie is an old fashioned “go big or go home” kind of player in a “just qualify for the playoffs baby” kind of league, with the unfortunate timing of covid and the CBA expiring on top of it to dampen his prospects for a nice contract. Boston seems like a good landing spot for him. He’s by no means done.

    Agree! We just don’t know what the offer was. I’m the biggest fan when it comes to trades for starting pitching. However, I’m still stuck in the old thinking that teams want strong rotations, and if that’s not how it’s trending anymore, then I’m not sure how worthwhile it is to trade for those types of guys. I still think, build a strong 5-man rotation as possible. So I hope we see Duran in another year or two and maybe the Escobar trade starts paying dividends.

    Wasn’t a fan of this one. Escobar went in the fire sale of 2018, when many players were traded. The Twins were 7 games back but I would have liked to see how the pennant race played out. The Twins were sellers the season before, as well, and then rallied. It will be fun when Duran makes his debut, even if the lustre and glow of being a starting pitcher is starting to wear off.

    We might end up at 6-10, but if those are the next three opponents, we might see 5-5 on our way there.

    Instead of asking starters to go 7 innings every five days, teams today seem happy to get 5 innings every six or seven days. At least in Twins world that seems to be expectation. The results here in Minnesota speak for themselves.

    I am neutral on the DH Rule. Both leagues seem to like it their own way, which is good enough for me. But your comment reminded me of the NFL catch Rule, that became so convoluted that any official could basically rule on it any way they chose, and it seemed like more deference was shown to interpreting the rule itself than to the actual football game being played. Mercifully, the NFL simplified it again in a way that allowed more balls to be catches.

    To answer your pace of play question: the rulebook already empowers umpires to keep the game moving, and they can charge a ball or strike against a pitcher or batter who is unnecessarily delaying the game. (I guess there could be a semantic nitpick in there—pitchers can control the pace of the game, and batters can hold up the game by stepping out...)

    Cruz puts the ball in play, hits for power, hits for average, drives in runs. If I recall, two years ago the competition for a DH was between the Twins and the Rays. Most of us scoffed at the idea that the Rays would attract him over the Twins. This time it might be different.
