  1. If not WAR, what measure would you propose?
  2. I can't tell if Kintzler would be a good 9th inning guy over a full season. Despite his lack of velocity, I think he might have a year or two in him as a closer.
  3. I thought Sano and Arcia were the only ones who made errors. Oh wait, scored a hit
  4. I think this was the rainout game when it never actually rained..
  5. in Rochester this season: 22 singles, 11 walks, 2 hit-by-pitch, unknown number of reached by error, four stolen base attempts. That doesn't seem like much base stealing work for a guy with Buxton's speed and inexperience.
  6. Of course Mauer was twice the catcher and AJ will never get more than a single vote or two, if any. But it is an interesting contrast that we traded AJ for Mauer, Mauer went on to have a borderline-HOF career, and yet AJ caught almost twice as many games (guesstimating). I think the key word in Halsey's post was "chuckle". ... Which may or may not be to your taste in wry humor...
  7. was originally trying to make a joke about moving Mauer 7th in the batting order
  8. The fact that Antony has done essentially nothing in 9 going on 10 days is just head scratching. Not that I want him to make a splash, but I thought he would have made some moves of some kind. So I wonder what's up with that--does he have cold feet, does he have basically an identical picture of the team that Ryan did, is he privy to other information about who the next GM is going to be and doesn't want to disturb the cart (remember how some people pretty confidently claimed that Molitor was the only candidate to be the next manager). Either way, disappointing. Not even a Chargois call up yet.
  9. This Mauer thread is always second or third down on the forum list when I notice it. At this point I would be happy if the mods permanently pinned it 7th.

  14. True, it's that every fifth day that Berrios pitches that gives him the most problems?
  15. No solid contact allowed, even on his off days. Because as Quade said, "you have to do it day in and day out."
  16. I actually agree. I also wonder if Ryan had done something significant or proactive in the past month if he would still be the GM.
  17. Sorry. I was already assuming this is a good job (warts and all) for a good candidate, who might be offered it but still decline it.
  18. or if you want to stick with your present team for the satisfaction of being part of a World Series winner.
  19. Concur, but is this a good enough position, right now, for a #2 in an organization like the Cubs to leave for, right now? I guess that's what we're going to find out.
  20. I think I am with you on this. I am not sure the requirements that a new GM must roll with Molitor, and that his (or her) activities/spending will need the approval of St. Peter, will encourage any of the really good candidates to pursue this.
  21. ok I buy your edit, but how can you be absolutely sure a good candidate would be interested in this job without being privy to critical information yourself?
