  1. If the Twins really want Jackson in 2027 they should be able to sign him after he's non-tendered.
  2. Teams would absolutely carry another pitcher instead of another position player.
  3. Every projected starter, except Buxton and Lewis, is below average defensively.
  4. We are seeing now why "non-tender" was the best choice this offseason.
  5. Outman is far less intriguing than Martin, Roden, Rodriguez, Jenkins or Gonzalez.
  6. The first paragraph spells out why they shouldn't - they want Jeffers to catch 110 games. That means there are only 50 games left for the backup catcher. Do you need two backup catchers to cover 50 games? Does Jackson even catch 15 games in that scenario? Is that a good use of a limited roster? Jackson cost nearly nothing to acquire. If they need a different Jackson due to injury, they can spend another low ceiling prospect to acquire someone new. Really, the only reason to carry three catchers on the Opening Day roster is you're still trying to work out a Ryan Jeffers trade and the details aren't completely agreed upon.
  7. Yeah, I think that is a best case scenario. He could do it for a month but not a whole season.
  8. The Phillies reportedly want to add Aidan Miller to the roster. Edmundo Sosa might be good enough to start for the Twins and move Brooks Lee to the bench.
  9. Thinking about this a bit more It is depressing that their best late bench moves involve removing LF/RF/1B/DH for a pinch hitter or for defense. If Clemens, Wallner and Larnach are all in the game on defense and Bell is the DH, there are not enough pinch hitters available for all three of them. You get one move that helps with batting and defense - Austin Martin. Caratini pinch hits for Clemens and there is nobody left to pinch hit for Wallner or Brooks Lee. The roster construction pretty much demands you play Larnach at DH, and you end up with a DH who needs a pinch hitter.
  10. Spring training shows you whether your guys are healthy. They get a lot better information in practice on the side fields than they do in spring training game stats.
  11. If you look at how the Twins would use their bench, it makes sense to 1) Remove Wallner, Lee and Bell for defense/baserunning late in the game. One of those subs will be Kody Clemens. This gives Kreidler an edge over Gray. 2) Use the backup C as a pinch hitter for Larnach (which means you want him at DH) If they go with Kreidler as the backup SS/CF and keep both Roden and Outman off the roster, that opens up a spot for Wagaman to be the RH pinch hitter. I really don't like carrying a guy for only defense or only batting. History shows that the "only defense" guy will bat way too often and this team already has too many DH.
  12. LF Projections for 2026 Martin .263/.340/.384 with average defense Larnach .250/.327/.418 with below average defense Why is Martin considered the "bench" guy and Larnach the "starter"? I expect Martin to be in LF almost every day with Larnach DH against RHP and sitting the bench against LHP. I am expecting the bench to be Caratini, Clemens and Gray with Outman (690 OPS projected) fighting Roden (661 OPS projected) for the last roster spot.
  13. I don't want to know what they have planned for Joe Ryan in June.
  14. Lineup A vs RHP Buxton, CF Keaschall, 2B Bell, 1B Wallner, RF Lewis, 3B Larnach, DH Jeffers/Caratini C Lee, SS Martin/Roden LF I expect Martin and Roden to both outperform Kody Clemens at the plate. Clemens can fill in for whoever is injured. LINEUP B vs. LHP Buxton, CF Keaschall, 2B Lewis, 3B Bell, DH Jeffers, C Wallner, RF Caratini 1B Lee, SS Martin LF Wagaman is in St. Paul unless there are a couple injuries. Even then, Caratini is a better hitter than Wagaman. I'm going to guess Bell gets >80 games in the field this season.
  15. There wasn't a team in need of Larnach last July. Contenders are usually looking to add someone better than Larnach.
  16. The Bell signing looked questionable when it was announced. Who were they bidding against?
  17. He's already proven he can beat up on the AA and AAA pitchers you often see in spring training. He can't make consistent contact against MLB-level pitching. He's a waiver-wire level talent.
  18. He's been incredibly disappointing so far. If you pick someone 1-1 you expect them to perform better than Mike Pagliarulo. Here's hoping for a 2.5 WAR season that matches his 162-game average performance over his entire career (.255/.310/.450). Then maybe next year we can try for actual All-Star level production.
  19. All evidence suggests Jeremy Zoll ran the trade deadline.
  20. It's pretty bleak for Twins in the fantasy rankings. Only Keaschall, Ryan and Buxton stand out. Pos Player Name Rank C Ryan Jeffers 19 C Victor Caratini 32 1B Josh Bell 31 2B Luke Keaschall 10 2B Kody Clemens 28 2B Brooks Lee 32 SS Brooks Lee 36 3B Royce Lewis 14 OF Byron Buxton 14 OF Matt Wallner 73 P Joe Ryan 29 P Zebby Matthews 78 P Bailey Ober 85 P Simeon Woods Richardson 127 P Taj Bradley 134 P Mick Abel 174 RP Tyler Rogers 31 RP Liam Hendriks 42
  21. I don't see a spot for Urshela at all. Wagaman has some experience at 3B - he's your Royce Lewis injury backup.
  22. Making Kody Clemens a backup is a positive step forward for this team. He SHOULD be a backup. Every season we get spring training articles about how there isn't enough room for everyone and every season 20% of the 40-man roster is injured at any given time and they end up playing some guy they just picked up off waivers (like Kody Clemens).
  23. Brooks Lee, starting SS, shows they're deeply unserious about improving their defense. Bell is just another data point.
