  1. Varland would have to go back to starting to provide more value than he's provided this season in the bullpen. There is little upside for Varland as a reliever.
  2. I would have no problem if they invested that payroll in extensions for Ryan Jeffers and possibly Keaschall. They should fill in the gaps with some veteran free agents at positions that don't block young players (1B, C, RP) with the possibility of flipping them at the deadline.
  3. Not trading him would have been malpractice. He's a free agent this winter.
  4. I strongly disagree that the Varland trade was a D grade. That trade brought back more talent than any trade except the Duran deal. I would give it a solid B. I think the trade order matters. They didn't have Roden when they traded for Outman. Still, I would give the Stewart trade an F. They traded a useful, though often injured, reliever for a 28-year-old outfielder who probably doesn't deserve a 40-man roster spot. It doesn't help them in the short or long term. That's a horrible trade. I think they may have overplayed their hand with Coulombe. Other lefty rental relievers went for a better return earlier. By holding out for more they settled for less. Some of the money saved in the Paddack/Dobnak deal was paid to send Correa to Houston. That deal might not happen without the other trades to free up the cash.
  5. He won’t be ready for the bullpen or the rotation in the next 2 seasons. Hill probably won’t either. Maybe 2028.
  6. I don't think Sabato would get drafted. I don't care if MacLeod gets drafted. Cardenas should get a cup of coffee in September if they're going to add him anyway. Add Rojas, Prielipp, Gonzalez, Schobel, Morris, Mendez, CJ Culpepper (that's 7)
  7. Raya, Prielipp, CJ Culpepper, Hidalgo, Macleod, Gallagher Hill, Soto and Rojas stay in the rotation
  8. He's pretty far down on the depth chart at 2B. Keaschall is going to get those reps for the rest of the year.
  9. Replace the 9 ERA guy with the 7 ERA guy and eventually with the 5 ERA guy. You rarely find really good pitchers on waivers but some aren’t half bad.
  10. I'm mostly not interested in them at all. None of them are tearing up AAA. I posted elsewhere that most of those players are not on the roster because they didn't hit as well as Gasper, Julien, Martin or Roden. I have no idea why they acquired Outman, but I expect he'll be up after they gain his age 33 season. Cardenas is the one player on your list I actually am interested in seeing but they couldn't dump Vazquez, so they'll keep him in AAA for the rest of the season. Roster spots are a consideration for keeping Culpepper and Jenkins in the minors. Gonzalez might come up in September. You keep Clemens on the roster because he's one of the few guys who seems to know how to play baseball. Also, if I had any intention of trading more pitching this offseason, I'd try to make the defense as good as possible for the last two months of the season. It looks like Keaschall is going to get regular playing time. That's one more on the development list.
  11. I'm more bothered by the people they have taking up the other 10. The position players with upside they're really developing right now are Wallner, Roden, Lee and Lewis. Larnach, Jeffers, Vazquez, Buxton and Clemens are established veterans. Julien and Martin have bench player upside. They're playing service time games with Outman (and Bradley and Abel). Nobody else in the minors is ready. Emmanuel Rodriguez has missed a lot of opportunities due to his inability to stay on the field.
  12. According to posters here, every minor league player should get promoted every time they have a 2-hit game and demoted every time they make a mistake.
  13. I kind of wish now that they had given Noah Davis jersey number 39.
  14. Dashawn Keirsey makes Austin Martin look like an All-Star. Maybe that's the reason. I think Martin's upside is 4th OF but with all the LH bat, marginal-defense corner outfielders in the system between MLB and AA there seems to be a spot for that. He has an OPS below 700 but it's OBP-heavy which is much more useful than if he hit .190 with an occasional HR. The key is he needs to be able to use his speed to produce actual range in the outfield. His glove will determine whether he can hold a spot on a major league roster.
  15. Be careful what you ask for. You want a trade? Enjoy spending August in Florida at a minor league park.
  16. I see it differently. The choices they have for the last roster spot is mainly players who kinda suck. They could either a) fill the last spots with veterans who suck but benching them doesn't hurt their development b) fill the last spots with rookies who suck, benching them DOES hurt their development Option b also burns service time, so you get less time from those players in later seasons when they're actually good. I am not bothered at all that Mickey Gasper, Dashawn Keirsey and Ryan Fitzgerald are taking up spots on the MLB bench while Aaron Sabato, Emmanuel Rodriguez and Payton Eeles play every day in St. Paul. Sabato, Rodriguez and Eeles are sufficiently challenged at that level.
  17. Some of these players have less than 3 years experience because they kinda suck. Why do you want players who kinda suck to get more playing time?
  18. Martin’s bat has been adequate for a 4th OF role. His glove was the problem but he is athletic enough to improve defensively. Julien is just good enough to play for a bad team. He was best when Farmer was there to cover for his flaws. Miranda is more likely to play overseas than in MLB.
  19. Switch hitting is hard. He has two swings to maintain and different pitches to handle from each side.
  20. Culpepper probably won't start the season at SS. Lee isn't great at 2B, he's more of a 3B. Keaschall might be a 2B. Kody Clemens will still be around. Guessing they start 2026 with Lewis, Lee, Keaschall and Clemens.
  21. I'll take better defense at 2B and better hitting at 1B. They've been getting glove players for 1B and hitters for 2B.
