  1. Yes, players have to be on the 40 man roster to get on the 26 man roster. Furthermore, September will only be a 28 man roster in 2021.
  2. No, Ober does not need to go 7 innings. That's not what starting pitchers do anymore. Pineda is barely averaging more than 5 innings per start. If Ober can consistently go 5 innings and keep the team in the game he's a 4th starter. I'm skeptical that we see the Twins bring up many of the real pitching prospects. Strotman, Balazovic and Duran are on the 40 man roster so we could see them but they will not want to add players early. They already need to evaluate Jax, Barnes, Thorpe, Gant, Burrows, Alcala and Garcia to see if they are worth keeping for 2022. Remember that you don't get to add the whole 40 man in September anymore.
  3. Lewis Thorpe should be done with his rehab stint soon. He's going to have to make a good impression or he'll be cut this offseason because he's out of options.
  4. Looks like just Birdsell went unsigned Twins sign twenty of twenty-one draft picks - Twinkie Town
  5. Palacios is having a good year at AA but hasn't forced his way to AAA the way Miranda did. I imagine the trade deadline will force some players up the ladder. The Twins will need to move an infielder from AAA to replace Simmons and that should give Palacios a spot at AAA.
  6. Well, on Twitter he just announced he isn't signing, so probably unlikely to be the first one of the draft picks to make it to the majors for the Twins.
  7. Pretty much relievers and not very many of them - Brusdar Graterol, Lewis Thorpe and Edwar Colina are the most recent. They traded away Huascar Ynoa. Fernando Romero was a bust. Silva and Liriano both came in trades.
  8. 5 years, $100M seems like a significant discount compared to what each of them would get as a free agent. If possible the team should sign both of them to a contract of that length and value.
  9. Yes and no. They need a spot for him at the next level, which means Palacios has to get promoted too. It's important to make sure he's successful. 750 OPS in 140 plate appearances doesn't scream "promote me". Canterino is the player at Cedar Rapids who is the most impressive.
  10. I'm pretty convinced that some of the success found by pitchers after leaving the Twins is cheating. Some organizations seem to have a "knack" for increasing spin rates.
  11. I think those three, Palacios and Miranda are looking at a mid-season promotion but I'm in no hurry to rush players up the ladder. There isn't a huge difference between Double-A and Triple-A.
  12. This means Marwin to 3B, which is a pretty good idea. That should improve the defense.
  13. There were a few catchers let go who could be the backup in 2019. Kevin Gausman could be interesting like Walker and Nelson
  14. There is a potential defensive alignment that could be a plus. Marwin is much better at 3B than he is at any other position, which is the key to improving in the infield. 3B Marwin Gonzalez SS Jorge Polanco (live with the avg defense for the plus bat until Royce is available) 2B Adrianza or Nick Gordon 1B Sano LF Arraez - if he's having this much trouble at 2B at age 22 it could get ugly quickly CF Buxton RF Kepler That would be a legitimate plus outfield and an average infield. Another defensive upgrade would come from replacing Castro as the backup catcher with a plus defender. Castro's glove slipped last season.
  15. I think this is the kiss of death for the players called up to Rochester to end that season. Good news: you are promoted to AAA. Bad news: you're probably getting cut this offseason.
  16. The most cost effective signings for team control are college players. 3 years older, less risky as far as flaming out completely and closer to contributing as a big leaguer. You don't have to burn option years on players in single-A when you draft them out of college. I like this strategy of getting college pitchers in bulk. If nothing else it should provide a steady supply of relief pitching.
  17. My favorite comp for Larnach is Geoff Jenkins. 1st round pick from a PAC school, College World Series star, All-American. Power lefthanded bat who could play in the field but wasn’t a favorite to win a gold glove.
  18. I still see this team as likely sellers rather than likely buyers
  19. I think they're making the best of their current situation but I really wish they would have been able to sign some international free agents the year they had the biggest IFA pool.
  20. I think Mejia might be the guy moved to the bullpen. 21 starts and only 5 of them longer than 5 innings. Even with those short starts he was just average. .761 OPS against the first time facing a batter (which isn't that impressive), .933 OPS against the 2nd time. Very seldom in the game for a 3rd time around the lineup
  21. That would be like the ownership saying "Do you want a top end starter or a full rotation of competent starters? We can't afford both".
  22. The Twins should be shopping FOR Ervin Santana. Get him a nice Christmas present.
  23. I agree - Dereck Rodriguez is currently a free agent and shouldn't appear on the list.
  24. I think Burdi is a must-add. He can go on the 60 day disabled list and not take a roster slot if needed. That essentially allows the Twins to protect him with a 41st roster slot. I would protect Gonsalves, Littell, Reed, Burdi and Thorpe. I really doubt Lewin Diaz would stick on a roster. He doesn't play defense well and teams can't afford to carry a rookie DH who only hit 12 HR in low A ball last season. The Twins probably will cut Kennys Vargas and Vargas is much, much more likely to contribute to a big league team. If someone wants Eades or Bard the Twins should trade them to that organization before the draft.
