  1. Their fans should be pissed. Cubs have deep pockets. Of course, they're Cubs fans so they don't mind losing as long as the keg still has beer in it.
  2. Lewis starts the season on the 60 day Injured List - not on the roster.
  3. Urshela ended the season at 121 and played a lot better defense.
  4. That infield defense will be terrible, maybe the worst in baseball
  5. Lots of love for Jose Miranda. I guess I'll chalk that up to people paying attention in July but not in August or September when his bat went ice cold. His defense at 3B was pretty bad as well. Urshela contributed more to the team than Miranda. Nick Gordon was arguably more valuable to the Twins than Miranda.
  6. Correa was a better hitter than Arraez (RBat 27 to 23) and he plays a much more difficult defensive position. Correa was clearly the MVP this season.
  7. Urshela is a free agent after next season and Miranda's glove makes clanking noises. Julien is a 2B or LF.
  8. Signed Correa to a 7 year $230M deal. Signed Omar Narvaez to catch. Traded Kepler to the Rays for Margot. Moved Duran into the starting rotation and Maeda into the bullpen. Spent $10M on bullpen free agents. C: Ryan Jeffers ($0.70M) 1B: Luis Arraez ($4.50M) 2B: Jorge Polanco ($7.50M) 3B: Gio Urshela ($9.00M) SS: Carlos Correa ($33.00M) LF: Trevor Larnach ($0.70M) CF: Byron Buxton ($15.00M) RF: Manuel Margot ($7M) DH: Jose Miranda ($0.70M) 4th OF: Gilberto Celestino ($0.70M) Utility: Nick Gordon ($0.70M) Utility: Alex Kirilloff ($0.70M) Backup C: Omar Narvaez ($4.00M) SP1: Sonny Gray ($12.00M) SP2: Tyler Mahle ($8.00M) SP3: Jhoan Duran ($0.7M) SP4: Joe Ryan ($0.70M) SP5: Bailey Ober ($0.70M) RP: Kenta Maeda ($3M) RP: Jorge Lopez ($3.00M) RP: Griffin Jax ($0.70M) RP: Jorge Alcala ($1.00M) RP: Caleb Thielbar ($2.00M) RP: Josh Winder ($0.7M) RP: Michael Fulmer ($4M) RP: Brad Hand ($6M) Payroll is 9.50% under budget
  9. Not true about the shift being gone. The SS can slide all the way to 2B, they just can't cross over the center line. 2B can play all the way to the edge of the OF grass. Teams will still be shifting and 3B will need to have range to cover the left side. 2B has to turn the pivot but their throws are easy. They can play a lot deeper than 3B which gives them more time to react.
  10. 3B is a more difficult defensive position than 2B, especially with all the shifting.
  11. I like a good challenge trade so I thought I would float this one - Max Kepler to the Rays for Manuel Margot. The Rays want to add more LH bats, the Twins need to subtract one. Both players are good defenders in the outfield and can cover CF if needed. Margot has a contract for $7M 2023, $10M 2024 and a $12M option for 2025 that is more likely to be bought out for $2M. Kepler's contract is $8.5M for 2023 with a 2024 option for $10M.
  12. I think Royce Lewis could be an All-Star caliber player at 3B. They could trade Urshela to make room when Lewis returns.
  13. If they put a guy with rock hands at shortstop they will need even better pitching. The most optimistic projection for Lewis' return is in June. The season could be over by then.
  14. I lean toward letting him develop as a starter next season. If it doesn't work you can always move him back to the bullpen. If it does work you might have an ace pitcher, which is the most valuable thing in baseball. Imagine if they had decided to keep Johan Santana in the bullpen.
  15. Where's Paddack? Where are your last 3 relief pitchers on the roster?
  16. Or even Jose Iglesias. They need a SS to be competitive.
  17. Agree with this sentiment. I have high hopes for Lewis and Woods-Richardson next season. It will be hard to for any reliever to top what Duran did this season. It is one of the best relief seasons in Twins history.
  18. Keep that in mind when looking at Martin and Julien's statlines. The pitching they saw in AA was at least as good.
  19. I agree, except for his $8.5M price tag. He's worth it but the Twins aren't going to want to spend that on a backup.
  20. The league batted .243 this season and that's with a full-time DH in the NL.
  21. If they can't find a placeholder shortstop better than Palacios they aren't looking very hard. I think it is 100% certain Correa will opt out but there is still a good chance he returns to the Twins. Need intersects with opportunity. They will find a spot for Royce Lewis.
  22. There are weirder moves they could make. They once played Miguel Sano in the outfield.
  23. That's the same as a non-tender and a free agent offer. I understand wanting to "punish" a player for performing badly by cutting his pay but a 1 year $3M contract for Pagan isn't going to make a bit of difference in next season's budget. If you want him pay him, if not cut him. The real cost of Pagan is he fills a roster spot which might be better used on a different pitcher.
  24. But they have already said they aren't changing anything about how he'll be managed in 2023. Find another team even more absorbed in the spreadsheet and convince them he's a stud based on the last 2 months. Trade him to that team for someone else.
  25. Cardinals - Astros could be a fun series. Those franchises are not fond of one another.
