  1. Castro has a lot more experience at 2B and will play it better than Royce. Lewis is much a better fielder at 3B than Miranda. Playing Lewis at 3B and Castro at 2B gives you your best defensive alignment.
  2. Kirilloff reminds me of Randy Bush. Teams carried a larger bench and smaller bullpen in the 1980s than they do now. It is a lot harder for a Randy Bush type player to carve out a career now. The Twins are going to tender him a contract this winter because they're going to let Kepler walk.
  3. Farmer does have a role as a late inning defensive replacement with Castro moving to the OF.
  4. Keeping Kyle Farmer is basically acknowledging that Brooks Lee still needs to develop in the minors for at least a couple of months. The other infielders in AAA (Castillo, Helman, Prato, Severino) are pretty bad, not players you want to promote to the big leagues if there is another infield injury.
  5. He can come in and catch an inning if they pinch hit for Vazquez. That's not a compelling reason but it's something.
  6. Wallner had a hot week but the Saints had little trouble scoring against Rochester (48 runs in 7 games). That's bad pitching. In the past month Wallner is only hitting .180 against AAA pitching. He needs to take his production this week and extend it for a whole month before I would think about bringing him back.
  7. I don't think Julien will be in AAA long but I'm also not sure he can work on what he needs to improve in AAA. I don't know if the AAA pitchers will use the same strategy to try to get him out because I'm not sure how many of them actually have the command to be successful using that strategy. I do hope Julien plays against every LHP in AAA to try to improve that weakness.
  8. Yes, even if they continue the every other day starting catcher rotation they could pinch hit Jeffers for Vazquez late in the games.
  9. When Lewis comes back I am hoping to see less of Jeffers at DH for this reason.
  10. Camargo just came off the injured list. The other AAA catchers are hitting .193 and .194 and they're both worse defenders than Vazquez. You have to go down to A-ball to find a Twins minor league catcher who is hitting well.
  11. Vazquez should never be the DH. The only reason to put him in the lineup is for defense.
  12. Even if you exclude Austin Martin's 7 walk game he's walking twice as often as he's been striking out.
  13. https://thedecisionlab.com/biases/loss-aversion Even if the Twins had evenly lost and gained players it would "feel" like they had lost more. You have to gain at a 2-1 ratio to make it "feel" even.
  14. It says you haven't signed many bad free agents. Teams make free agent signings worse than Vazquez all the time.
  15. Ricardo Olivar in May: .330/.419/.582 and just 15K in 105PA. Plus, he plays catcher.
  16. This is a defensible position. He has little left to learn in AAA but he's not doing enough to keep his MLB roster spot.
  17. I hope someone else believes this. Margot's best hitting season is a 104 OPS+ and his career line is a 90 OPS+. He's always been known as a glove-first outfielder but he's slower now and not covering as much range. He might catch fire and be adequate but that's the upside. The downside we've already seen for the first 6 weeks of the season.
  18. If I had to create a current depth chart for the Twins current outfield talent it would go Kepler Buxton Castro Larnach Kirilloff Martin Margot Keirsey Rodriguez (and he's going to move past most of those guys soon) Wallner
  19. Olivar is hitting nearly as well as Keaschall did at the same level. Will he be ready when the Vazquez contract is over?
  20. Best case scenario is a team with no outfield depth looks at Margot's productivity during the last week and decides it's worth taking on a million dollars of his salary to acquire him. Twins send Margot and cash for a low level prospect.
