  1. They have to pay him an MLB salary to sit on the 60 day IL and he gains service time to put him one year closer to free agency. The service time isn't really an issue but the paycheck is. I don't know why they haven't released him. He's never been able to put together a healthy season of pitching. By sending him to the minors they burned his last option so next spring he'll have no MLB experience, a track record of terrible health and no minor league options. It's a total waste of a 40-man roster spot.
  2. They have Royce Lewis, too. All 3 guys are better than anyone they would have acquired as a free agent stash.
  3. There isn't such a thing. He has to go on the MLB 60 day or get released. I have serious doubts any other team in MLB wants to carry him on their 40-man roster but they might out-bid the Twins to give him a minor league contract.
  4. They would need to move players to the 60 Day IL or remove them from the 40-man roster to open up roster spots. Matt Canterino could easily be released, for example. Diego Cartaya would probably pass through waivers after his cold start to the season. Tonkin could head to the 60 day IL.
  5. Falvey and Levine were a team, too. If Falvey is given a choice of firing Rocco, or losing his job, he'll fire Rocco.
  6. If they're looking for a feisty, energetic contrast to Rocco, they could see if Joe Mauer is available to finish out the season for them.
  7. McCusker is probably as good as any waiver wire option. They might as well give him a chance.
  8. This team is using a roster spot for Mickey Gasper. A 106 OPS+ would be one of the best on a team desperate for offense.
  9. Scapegoat implies that he is performing well and they are looking for someone to blame for their mistakes. Baldelli has not done a good job of preparing his team. They don't even know what to do for their cutoff plays. If he's fired, it will be as deserved as most professional manager firings.
  10. Call the agent for JD Martinez. Assure him you'll trade him at the deadline if the team is not a contender. There are other veteran players in the minors with upward mobility clauses in their contracts. They can go outside the organization for AAA talent.
  11. Eventually they will either trade those pitchers or they will issue qualifying offers after 2027 and let them walk as free agents. I wouldn't trade all three, but if they really want to add a good bat, they will need to part with one of them.
  12. Clearly, the manager needs to go. They've tried to change the coaches but that hasn't done the job. If the guy they want is still under contract elsewhere, they can wait until the end of the season. Next, they need to trade anyone who is a free agent or might get non-tendered. That's Bader, France, Castro, Paddack, Vazquez, Tonkin, Stewart, Topa, and Coulombe. They can lose with or without those guys this year. Some moves might be addition by subtraction. Bring up Austin Martin, Jair Camargo, Luke Keaschall and Emmanuel Rodriguez. Next, sell high on players who are older but might get a premium in trade. That's Jax, Ober. Lopez and Ryan. However, I wouldn't sell more than one of the top 3 starting pitchers. They need to open up spots for Festa and Matthews. Paddack will be gone but that only opens one spot. I think that's enough for now. That's subtracting 7 arms and 4 position players. Use the rest of the season to evaluate who you got in trade and whoever is still remaining on the roster.
  13. Yep, showcase the veterans for trade. Boston needs a catcher right now and they have a positive history with Vazquez. I'd be calling them daily to let them know he's available.
  14. I believe the Twins like to use Correa as the cutoff on as many plays as possible to take advantage of his elite arm. The only plays he doesn't cut off are down the lines.
  15. So, he's still on injury rehab and we shouldn't expect to see him in the big leagues until that's done. My guess is that will take several weeks.
  16. I really hope they aren't putting Keaschall at DH because they think he's worse in the OF than Yunior Severino.
  17. It's an exaggeration, but it's a reality check to the people who think Keaschall needs to be promoted yesterday. He's currently a part-time 2B and part-time DH - just like Julien. He's essentially still on injury rehab, though he's doing it at the AAA level. When are the positional handcuffs coming off? When are they going to get him some reps in the outfield where he has to throw at max effort?
  18. I think Gasper and Keirsey have those roles because they don't want Rodriguez and Keaschall to sit on the bench and rarely play. They don't care if Gasper or Keirsey rots on the bench for a week without any action. If we see an injury to a starter we will see someone promoted from AAA to take the starter's at-bats; Keirsey and Gasper won't get any additional playing time.
  19. I like Miranda and Julien as bench players. I think Miranda can come back and fill a role like Donovan Solano if he plays up to his talent. As starters, you'll always be looking for someone else to take the job on defense.
  20. I think Larnach has over-adjusted to breaking stuff and is letting fastballs go by in the zone. He needs to take a hack at some of the get-me-over fastballs he's seeing, especially early in the count.
