  1. I don't think they will make a move on Rocco until the end of May at the earliest. I also don't think it will be Toby who gets the job in interim. It is worth considering what record the Twins will have to have in May to get them to fire Rocco mid-season. I don't think they could ignore a record of 18-40 and they would have to fire Rocco. I think he stays if they are 25-33 (playing .500 from here to the end of May) or better. The grey area is in between.
  2. I thought people here would be thrilled. All last year I heard posters loudly saying the team needed to reduce their strikeouts and stop trying to hit home runs. They've been very successful, reducing strikeouts below league average. Their home runs are now in the bottom 5 teams in baseball. According to Twins Daily posters this should have unleashed their full offensive potential.
  3. The umpire blew a couple calls, but Joe Ryan didn't need to throw a fit on the mound. That was quite unprofessional. The Braves pitchers were also having trouble getting strikes called but I didn't see them throw their equipment into the dugout. The only interesting thing left for this season is seeing what they get in return for the trades they're going to make. On the plus side, I'm getting a lot more reading done during the games. I nearly finished a memoir this weekend.
  4. It is encouraging to see them move on from a decision so quickly. Usually it takes months to get them to change players.
  5. If you want him going deeper into games, he's going to have to drop back on the velocity.
  6. I would usually count that as a win.
  7. Option SWR until they can find a trade partner for Paddack. SWR doesn't deserve it but Zebby should be in the majors.
  8. The Twins have said they don't want relievers to go back on the mound once they have sat down in the dugout.
  9. Damn near every team uses 3 relievers per night. MLB average was 3.67 relievers per game in 2022.
  10. Almost nobody consistently hits .300. Aaron Judge has a career batting average of .290. Ohtani is .282. The average major leaguer hits .235.
  11. Matthews looks ready. He's consistently one of the best pitchers at his level. I'd like to see him get 6 innings in a start but the Twins don't seem to care. Keaschall hasn't been of the best hitters in the league or even on his team. He's still rehabbing the elbow after surgery. There are lots of reasons not to promote him and if anyone else was healthy he would still be in AAA. Emmanuel Rodriguez also doesn't look ready yet. If you want a promotion, show that your current level is too easy.
  12. So, you're saying they're NOT doing the same thing over and over.
  13. What should we honestly expect? We should expect Keaschall to fail in his first major league playing time. That's not an indictment of his talent - most prospects fail and go back to the minors to work on their game. Pitching in MLB is incredibly difficult to hit. Keaschall has all of 325 plate appearances above A-ball. If we translate those AA and AAA plate appearances to an MLB talent level, we should expect an OPS a little below 600. The only players I feel confident he'll out-hit in his first time in MLB are Gasper and Keirsey.
  14. I think they are grooming Raya to be a reliever. It's probably a good idea to have him start in AAA because more innings now will help his development in the longer run.
  15. Repeatedly bringing up the next shiny new prospect to please the fans is not a recipe for sustained success. Fans always get disappointed with their new toy after a couple weeks and want the player they were clamoring to see sent back to Fort Myers.
  16. I was responding to that comment. It's always unhelpful to put Hall of Fame expectations on prospects.
  17. I am surprised. Adding another injured player to the roster doesn't seem like it would be helpful.
  18. They have a role they can play where they're a better option in a matchup. Keirsey can pinch run and play defense better than a starter which gives him a role.
  19. Roy Oswalt is a borderline Hall-of-Fame caliber player. I'd be thrilled if Morris could duplicate Kyle Gibson's career.
  20. Twins.TV works fine. The first couple games there were issues getting the broadcast to start but those have been solved. There are fewer ads than most sports broadcasts, which has been great. I have decent internet service but nothing special. If you're in a rural area with sketchy internet you may have worse performance.
  21. Let's emulate Cleveland, Milwaukee and Tampa and their combined zero World Series championships since 1948. I know they punch above their weight class, but they haven't been able to get to the promised land. Why not copy St. Louis? They have the same market size and a LOT more success.
  22. I am going to guess that Martin returns after Wallner. Martin's injury looked much worse.
  23. That is not worth carrying on the 26 man roster.
