It's very very bad: "Since the beginning of the 2002 season, when Ron Gardenhire replaced Tom Kelly as manager, the Twins are 33-92 against the Yankees including the playoffs.     Exactly. If he has a good year, the Twins give him a QO and most likely he gets kinda screwed: either he takes it (and he probably won't) or he sits around forever waiting for a multi-year deal for a 2B from someone, which will come in low. If he does take it, fine enough. That's a lot of money but it's only a one-year commitment.

    Sign a good reliever and tell their agent they will get to close games for the Twins. That would be enticing for someone on the market.

    Thing is that $14M is not that bad for a decent FA starter. Shop him, sure and if you get a great offer, take it. But anyone they sign would be more expensive. The original Santana deal was a good one for the Twins!
