  1. Duff can get lefties, in theory. Romo, a bit shakey.
  2. Good test for Duffey in a bigger spot.
  3. Reynaldo Lopez threw a 9in 1 hitter w 11ks. 2 starts ago he had a 5in no hitter before he left with dehydration. in between: 2/3 innings 6er... under team control until 2024.
  4. I side more with you than law probably. But watching last night, I think I can see what he means. Perhaps it was the situation and instruction to go let loose (he looked like he was overthrowing). but specifically, I'd say we shouldn't confuse a compact delivery with a low effort delivery.
  5. Happens all the time. You can't assume health, performance and market. Odo is an exact example of a guy who can take advantage of a career year. If he can't replicate this season then he'll be seen as declining. Your window to sign the big deal in MLB is a super small window. I feel bad for Polanco and Kepler who may have cost themselves the chance to ever sign a large contract. If Odo turned down 4 for 60 to accept a QO, he's crazy, imo. Although, if I'm his agent I probably have him decline both of those offers.
  6. I like the plan but it's almost impossible to pull off. Many argue the price of starting pitching was too high at the deadline (despite Kuechel sitting forever and Stroman going for an average package). The Twins missed a huge opportunity to improve for next year AND get a stud for this year's playoffs. Unforgivable in my estimation. When the bidding heats up this winter the Twins will bow out like they always do. Perhaps smartly. But we'll be fielding a broken rotation which will cost even more to improve. At which point people will say you can't mortgage your future to acquire 1 or 2 arms. So we will perhaps smartly hold pat at next year's deadline and go into 2021 selling Larnach as the next Kepler, Kiriloff as the next Kubel and Lewis as the next Buxton. And say you don't sign big free agents when you're rebuilding. Rinse. Repeat.
  7. Oversimplification in my opinion. Not every team is in position to buy. Not every team has the same issues with rotation. Not every team has the prospect capital the Twins have. In terms of what we saw go down, it does not appear that asking prices were too high. It appears that demand was low. Theoretically this should lower asking prices. Except the Twins were rightfully trying to acquire pitchers with controllable years. We were fixated on the current market while sellers were comparing to a future market.
  8. So I think I'm finally getting this. There's the 40 man roster we're mostly all familiar with then there's the almost entirely but not necessarily completely overlapping playoff eligible list. In order to be added to the second list after Sept 1, 2 things must happen. 1) you must be added to the 40 man roster and 2) you must replace an individual from the playoff eligible list who a) currently on the IL and eligible to be activated (more than 10 or 60 days on IL). I was confused because I took "replaced" to mean from the 40 man roster rather than the playoff eligible list. I didn't think you could remove someone from your roster while on the IL. But you're actually not. You're replacing a seperate cut from the 40 man while replacing a different player on the playoff eligible list. So... moving Gordon to the 60 day would free up a roster spot for Graterol while keeping Poppen on the 10 day would allow Graterol to take his spot on the playoff eligible list. Did I get that right? So who can be DFA or moved to 60 and who do we have on the 40 who is on the IL who will be eligible to be activated by playoffs?
  9. Who is all of: a) on the 40 man roster, on the injured list, and c) eligible to return from either the 10 or 60 day. Moving a player to 60 day IL does not allow you to add a player to the playoff roster unless they're eligible to return (already past 60 days). If you need these 40 man spot now, then moving a player to 60 day makes sense. Otherwise leaving on the 10 day gives more flex since they can be swapped out and replaced with playoff eligible players after Sept. 1.
  10. Who do we have that fits this criteria? Astudillo? Buxton?
  11. Buxton's range gets him to balls offers wouldn't catch which he's credited with by statcast, but it also allows Rosario and Kepler to get to balls other corner outfields wouldn't get to. Buxton makes the whole outfield better.
  12. We looked at record with and without. What about team runs against with and without?
  13. if you're keeping score, be prepared to have to buy the entire media guide and bring your own golf pencils.
  14. I guess. I just think we're in better position this year and missed opportunities to get better for this year AND next year. so we don't have as much to do this off-season. Last year we thought we'd be good and played ourselves into a hole we never got out of. This year we had an 11.5 game head start. Luck always plays a role. Be nice to take advantage.
  15. Pressley feels like a troll.. but he was neither a prospect or a rental and certainly not at peak value. His peripherals screamed closer and we traded him as an underperforming overused set up guy. Diaz was a fringe prospect if a prospect at all. But possibly Davis might be the most popular player in San Fran, and he's not even there yet. I'm guessing they could trade him this winter and get more than Dyson back. I don't think prospect lists can ignore his progress. In short, he's not at peak value. Hu was traded at peak value I guess. Anyway, I think to get something back, you have to be willing to give something. But if the guys we traded at "peak value" increase their value after we trade them, I think you're missing my point. Let's hold on to the Pressleys and maybe a Davis and trade the Arcias, Jays, Stewarts, and Gordons. A reclamation project who can't be optioned has almost no value in MLB to anyone but a bottom barrel team who won't want to trade prospects.
  16. Continue to dominate the central? Let's win it first. Next season the White Sox get Kopech and Rodon back. Cleveland is right there. Right now, Perez is not likely to be retained (may be extended for less aav), and Berrios looks tired. I'm trying really hard to see a serviceable rotation next year. It would have to come together like our hitting did this year.
  17. Interestingly, Jaylin has been getting some run at and prefers to play center field. Being even below average but functional at center would make him even more valuable. He's only 25...
  18. https://www.sfchronicle.com/giants/article/Outfielder-Jaylin-Davis-can-hear-Giants-14383066.php Be cool to see Jaylin get a shot.
  19. Sign 3 FA pitchers (2 current Twins plus another top arm)
  20. Except usually it's a kid that pays the price.
  21. and the amount of parents sitting on phones with young kids sitting next to them...
  22. Maybe he doesn't add much for the hard core fan. But we're the minority of fans. Look at the amount of fans doing the wave. Those are the people who like Bert circling kids on the telestrator. it's a stadium full.
  23. The magic of Bert (and Dick) is in the nostalgia. His voice represents baseball to a generation of Twins fans. Some grew up watching games with Dick and Bert and fell in love with the sport to their narration. Baseball itself is such a timeless game steeped in history and tradition. Purposely moving at a slower pace. I shudder to think of what people would have said about Herb Carneal and John Gordon gag the internet been around for their last broadcasts. It's sad people can't appreciate that.
