Article: Draft Signing Deadline Looms
Dman replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Did Alex Wiel sign? I don't see anything that shows that he was signed. That is tough news about Cody. I wonder what they would have found that would have put them off like that as the Twins are typically pretty straight shooters. Hope it can work out well for everyone.- 24 replies

Article: Twins Should Just Keep Dancing
Dman replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't think many on here questioned his bat but many questioned his defense in an outfield that looked questionable on defense to begin with. For myself I questioned why spend 10M for just 1 year on an aging player who is not part of the future of this team? Didn't make a whole lot of sense to me. I didn't mind having Hunter on the team but felt they way over paid for his services and at that time I didn't see him to be a net positive for this team. From what I understand several other teams valued Hunter highly but he chose the Twins and he has been a big part of this teams success this year. Sometimes assumptions are wrong and the ole eye test does work. -
It would be nice to have a left handed home run hitter in the lineup. We are overly right handed these days if you ask me. If nothing else he would be a better pinch hitter than anyone else we have. I don't like his defense but he really is needed in the lineup.

Article: Molitor Hints At Six-Man Rotation
Dman replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yeah when you throw an ace in there a 6 man doesn't look as good. Lot's of things have to come into play to make it work. Maybe it would need to be more sporadic and not set in stone. If you have an ace and 5 really good pitchers maybe it still makes sense. It hurts most if the sixth pitcher isn't that good as you pitch him instead of your better pitchers. Getting to six is tough and maybe there just isn't enough value there but it sure seems like there is more debate about it than ever before.- 73 replies

Yeah that is an interesting thought and would potentially help with 25 man. I wonder if teams will get creative like that.- 73 replies

Article: Molitor Hints At Six-Man Rotation
Dman replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have very little evidence but it seems like there has been speculation about six man rotations for a while now. I guess i just wouldn't be surprised if it started to happen more. Despite giving up double digit starts of a teams ace pitcher all baseball teams moved from a four man rotation to five. So there is more to the debate than just using your best pitcher as much as possible. Health is important as well. Maybe teams would use a six man for a couple of turns every couple of months to give the arms a break. Who knows how or why a team might implement a 6 man. Maybe it never will happen on a regular basis. All I am saying is that it could be a good strategy and part of baseballs future given all the arm problems teams seem to have. Time will tell.- 73 replies

Article: Molitor Hints At Six-Man Rotation
Dman replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
While I get the absolute math about best pitchers pitching as much as possible I don't have your same level of certainty of who "the best" pitchers would be at this point. ERA, FIP, WHIP change from game to game. All the pitchers above could have been slated as our number one pitcher at some point this season and at this point baring peripheral stats they all look pretty much the same to me. That being the case a 6 man rotation hardly seems like a major problem going forward IMO especially if they only use it to the break. I agree adding another rotation arm guarantee's a smaller bench and less flexibility that way but it doesn't seem like Molitor uses his bench all that much as it is. Also isn't baseball evolving from defensive shifting, to leveraging good bullpens, to possibly 6 man rotations in the future? Just because that is the way they always did it before doesn't mean it has to be that way forever. Strategies change. As pointed out by the article there are good things about a 6 man rotation as well. As teams moved on from 4 man rotations maybe 6 is next regardless of less starts by the best pitchers.- 73 replies

Article: Twins Sign Dominican SS Wander Javier
Dman replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am just happy that they will get one guy rated in the top 10. At least they bought a decent lotto ticket for this year. Not sure how much they have left to spend for their typical guys on the fringes but I am guessing they have a plan? Will be interesting to see what the prices are in the market this year. -
I know it is early but I think Tapia needs to be moved to Cedar Rapids. Looks like Santana is ready after a Milone type performance tonight. Lots of good pitching tonight.

Let's see how Pelfrey does but I could see them doing a two or three year deal with him but depending on how well he does it could be expensive. I also wouldn't be surprised if they extended Hunter. I don't see how Hunter fits on this team once Buxton comes up but maybe he part time DH's? I like Boyer but I would like to see some younger guys in that role for this team. We can't keep all these pitchers in the minors without 40 man problems so we need to find out who can hack it and who can't sooner rather than later. So I would hope they don't extend but you can never count Ryan out in these situations as he love's the scrap heap vets.

Article: Official Twins Daily Day 3 Draft Thread
Dman replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yeah that is my thinking as well. How many base clogging first baseman do we need. Try and get guys who can hit and run. Certainly I can understand getting one really good one but three. A majority of the teams haven't even drafted a 1st baseman yet and we are the only team who has drafted three. I am no scout and I know nothing about these guys they might be very good and move pretty well I have no idea but typically if you are a first baseman you are slow and have some power and hopefully a decent hit tool. Maybe these guys can play outfield I just find it odd that you focus early and often at first base. No one else seems to be. -

Yep I guess they think so highly of Jay that they will draft anyone who has hit a home run off of him. I hear that is select club like 3 or 4 guys. -

I am not huge on first baseman for picks as they are usually slow with one or two tools and you can convert other positions to First base so I guess I don't understand why there are three picks for first baseman. -

Article: What's The Best Plan For Tyler Jay?
Dman replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would let him play in Cedar Rapids as a relief pitcher and see how he does. I guess if he is just completely dominant you could move him to high A. Next year you try him as a starter and see how it goes. I really believe this guy has what it takes to start and be really good. He has the pitches he just needs to understand the mental and physical side of starting. I think in time he will be a top of the rotation starter. I know that is pie in the sky optimistic but scouts say he has very good control and good depth to his pitches he was dominant last year so I think it all adds up to a really good starting pitcher. Time will tell. -
Article: Official Twins Daily Day Two Draft Thread
Dman replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I liked the Twins draft. They went pitchers early and got some nice HS bats. Nice mix of college and HS players. Nice mix of pitcher and position players as well as value and some high risk upside. Sad thing is only one o r two of these players will make it to MLB. Every year I think they all will make it but i know better now. Hopefully they get some upside guys in rounds 11-20 and hopefully we get luckier than usual with these picks.- 202 replies

Article: Twins Select Tyler Jay Sixth Overall
Dman replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Guy has shut down stuff. Rockies were gonna take him at three and I bet the Whitie sox would have grabbed him had he fallen to them. Most scouts felt he had the stuff to start. Twins converted Duffy they can convert Jay.- 111 replies

I like the pick. Probably the best lefty they could take. They converted Duffy they can convert Jay. He has two plus pitches and two more on there way to plus. Most scouts felt he had the stuff to start. It is a typical twins safe pick with some upside. If he becomes Glenn Perkins worse things could happen.
-
I like the Aiken pick. He is a young lefty that will have TJ behind him. He has the pitches and knows how to use them. The velocity is there and he was deemed as 1\1 last year and if there weren't questions probably 1/1 this year as well. It is a big risk but if it works out there is big upside there as well. I am normally risk averse but I feel like he is gonna work out and really have something to prove. Probably too much risk involved for the Twins and time will tell what the best picks were.

Article: Twins Draft Preview: Alex Bregman
Dman replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So it looks like the three players that most likely could fall to the Twins would be one of Bregman, Tate or Tucker depending on what Texas and Houston do. I guess Cameron and Allard would likely be there as well and I don't know how the Twins feel about those two guys. I would be fine with any one of those guys at this point. Kind of was hoping for pitching (preferably lefty) out of that spot since we don't have an early second round pick, but the best pitchers right now appear to be converted relievers. Seems like that might be a little bit more of a risky pick that high up on the board. Thing is the Twins are going to get somebody good no matter what just a questions of who that will be at this point.
