  1. there are 12 people in the baseball operations part of the org chart with “analyst” in their title. https://www.mlb.com/twins/team/front-office
  2. Really good take and I very much agree with the gist. I would add that the roster wasn’t constructed well to support a pinch-hit heavy approach. The most relied upon hitters, Buxton, Correa, Lewis were the least reliable, and so the reserves spent most of their seasons as starters and then when the pinch hit situations occur, Rocco painted himself into a corner with Margot especially, but Martin and others that spent many innings out of position or just plain playing when they shouldn’t have. What’s hard about all of this is knowing how the execution decisions are made. So Baldelli kept going back to the same darn well, over and over, with worse hitters replacing bad hitters and the swirl continued. How does the review/check happen to evaluate strategy/execution effectiveness during the season? Did no one see these decisions backfire over and over and raise their hand to question effectiveness?
  3. With Martin, the stats aren’t very good, but -8 OAA reaffirms my view that his fielding was bad, to go with an expected bad hitting Farmer overall hit as well as I expected and fairly close to historic, but his fielding fell off a cliff and only played 13 of 76 opportunities at SS. He was supposed to be backup SS and a “very good” fielder. He missed really badly on a defense first platoon hitter position. It’s Christian Vasquez, not Velasquez. Castro slumped badly, but is it fair to expect him to play in 158 games and 3.1WAR above average hitter 108 wRC+ while setting a record for most games at most positions? That’s pretty impressive on the whole in modern baseball. Not an A, he couldn’t keep up the pace across the marathon, but dang.
  4. Absolutely agreed, however… don’t throw stones when you live in a glass house.
  5. I was thinking the author was generous with these 4 :)
  6. Buxton was on the 2019 Twins
  7. Glossed over in the synopsis, Dave St Peter stays. While not surprising, the TV deal and announcement of dropping payroll are horrendous business outcomes/decisions
  8. They are kinda getting what they asked for…
  9. I really feel like the season is it’s entirety is a better representation (than the 2/3 or 1/3 view) of what we should expect, should the FO run it back again. Mediocre
  10. This! In order to be a “veteran leader”, you need have experience to become a veteran.
  11. Correa’s not wrong, but isn’t that what veteran experience is?
  12. False. 1924 to 1987 is far longer than 1991 to 2024
  13. Possibly worse next year. 1) no post season money 2) no TV contract (today) 3) Lopez gets a big raise this offseason 4) not much coming off the books this offseason
  14. Should Falvey (and/or Levine) want to come back? Roughly 1/3 of the teams follow the revenue cycle model, much like the Twins, Guardians, and Rays. Maybe not to the extremes, but they do it. If the answer is no, maybe it’s time to evaluate career choices.
  15. Is ownership external to Rocco and the players? I would think it is, and would be one of many factors in this team’s success. Leadership doesn’t add two relievers and a starter at the trade deadline. Rocco absolutely deserves criticism for many things, but running out of horses isn’t one of them.
  16. Good luck in free agency Max! I hope someone backs up the Brinks truck!
  17. Whoa, slow down there maestro. There's a NEW Mexico?
  18. Alright Zebby! Let’s end the season strong!
  19. Have you seen what a can of Gluek’s goes for nowadays? Cold Spring is not what you think it is
  20. Agreed that Baldelli’s game tactics are a problem. Is making a change going to be a significantly impactful one? In terms of bang for the buck, does Baldelli turn what was an 87 win team celebrated last year, to an 81-83 win villainous failure this year, to… what? what’s the impact?
  21. Well written Matthew! Thoroughly enjoyed your work! My thesaurus got dusted off a few times
