  1. You will never see a better example of how much skill a pro baseball commentator has until you watch a Twins game and a college TV station back to back. My alma mater SCSU has a very well respected broadcasting program. Sven was as good as it got on the college TV station. He took a big jump when he went pro. Most of the programming was absolutely painful, but we watched... With alcohol in abundance
  2. If I worked on the same office, I'd never accomplish anything but chuckle and get fired. It would be short lived.
  3. I wonder that too.. I wonder what it's like to work in LaBombo's office...
  4. Yeah... Bert has always been a drinking game... It's Dick who has gone down hill during the team's horrendous slide...
  5. I think Kubel takes the most at-bats away from Pinto. Parms is going to spell Willingham in the OF, but that's far less frequent than that of Kubel DHing. With as often as Santana has played CF this year and the situation the position is in, I'm with TheGrin, it might be Hicks vs. Kubel with Santana primary CF and Fuld 4th OF. Barring injury, if Escobar and Nunez starts Plouffe is on the bench or DHing, in a pinch move Santana from CF to IF and put in Fuld. Personally I'd rather it be Kubel vs Hermann/Fryer. As little as Pinto has played lately, I'm ready to give Gardy his third catcher safety blanket. It's dumb, but I would rather Hermann or Fryer rot on the bench than Pinto. i think Fuld becomes activated, Hicks goes to AAA, Santana becomes primary CF with Fuld as 4th OF. DFA Kubel, bring up Fryer. Lineup could look like this. Dozier 2b Escobar SS Mauer 1b Willingham LF Arcia RF Plouffe 3b Pinto DH Suzuki C Santana CF Parmelee reserve 1b/corner OF Nunez reserve IF Fryer reserve C Fuld 4th OF it'll give Gardy a good hitting lineup, flexible bench, the safety blanket, and an ok hitting bench as well. Pinto can spell Suzuki behind the plate and if the once a decade pinch at catcher happens, a Fryer is there without losing DH. That's what's happening now, right? Pinto is rotting on the bench because Gardy is afraid to lose his DH.
  6. Very encouraging. Before the season started, did anyone look at the move to add May to the 40 as more of readiness than necessity? I sure thought it was necessity. i am excited to watch May pitch in a Twins Uni this season. I hope it is soon, but fear it will wait for injury.
  7. You are on to something here... I've been stuck on the notion that Santana is the short stop of the future, but like you say, he's struggled with SS in the past. I have been arguing for Escobar to take over at SS (as a better alternative to P-Flo) bridge to Santana, when a Santana is ready. Well I got what I wanted and Escobar has been better than expected. Over the last month he's been a very good fielder and hit well. I don't think he can maintain hitting the was he has, but there is only one way to find out for certain. Does Escobar at SS and a Santana in CF solve the issues? Maybe...
  8. And unlike Dozier, these two bat in the middle of the lineup.
  9. They'll give Correia at least one more start before they cut bait, unless by some miracle they trade him.
  10. Very good point, just because they are "replacement level players" doesn't mean the team has the assets/ability to replace or more importantly improve on those players.
  11. If you were to reduce the rotation to rid yourself of 0, what effect would going to 4 starters have on the rotation and bullpen effectiveness? What effect on the roster? I know Bert speaks fondly of the old days, but there are reasons players like him are in the HOF.
  12. Good to see Fuld progressing. He's been sidelined quite a while.
  13. The only Twin to play in all 52 games, Plouffe right behind him at 51 though he has DHed a couple times.
  14. I've had the love/hate relationship with my PT for 30 years. The hard work that those men and women have put into helping me as as an amputee has been invaluable. PT is a b***h, but without it and those people, I would be a "cripple". Instead I feel that I am a happy, successful person. For me it is work with my prosthetic arm, that becomes all new every year or two. It's not as profound as mobility, but my life has been enriched by improved articulation technology and improved kinesiology techniques, both of which are implemented in my life by the folks who coach and work with me in physical therapy.
  15. i had a similar experience. Bottom of the 9th, one out, my wife walks into the living room and says "Holy Crap! We're gonna best the Yankees, that never happens"
  16. It's predictive in the same vein as Santana in CF, in context with Hicks' issues and admission, as well as Buxton's lingering injury and Hermann's CF duties. In isolation it's just a dot, but 3 dots is the start of a trend
  17. Oh and not that I agree, but you can vote for Governors, but you can't vote for sports team management
  18. We're nice on the right side of the st croix
  19. If May and Meyer are coming up, you need Darnell for insurance, unless you want Scott Diamond on the major league roster again.
  20. But you have the wife side of the equation in this example. Arcia has been the yin to Mauer's ever so stoic yang. Can Arcia become the vocal team leader? He has the bat and mouth for it, can he develop the cred and the management's trust to continue?
  21. His xFIP in May is quite similar to his career. Tough April, but to be expected considering the changes he faced. He is who the Twins signed. That's how free agency works. He isn't going to be better this far in his career than his average over the whole 4 year contract.
  22. You know how I know you're a wee little tyke? Your favorite Twin of all time isn't Puckett, Oliva, Killebrew, Hrbeck, Blyleven, Viola or Morris (or in other words your fav played in the last 15 years). i agree with both you and Thrylos. Both need to happen, except Antony needs to be out on his ear too. It would be too tempting to make Antony permanent. Promote Brad Steil interim, and backfill with TK.
  23. Joe Mauer was one of the best Catchers to ever play. He's not a catcher and hasn't even hit to that caliber. LaBombo is dead on, he needs to get healthy or figure it out.
