  1. I'm going to claim the economist's point of view. MiLB is a crapshoot as far as talent acquisition goes. Of minor league players, 90% or more never get get a whiff of the bigs. If a major league team can get the talent and only shell out a few bucks, why shell out a lot more to get no better results? If all of these organizations and people are willing to do the work for next to free, why pay them more to not see exponentially better results. A case could be made that the Braves and Yankees are in the playoffs at a higher rate than other teams, but at what price? Is the ownership and control of the minors the cause? On a side note, I do agree that the Mior League contract is a travesty and all of the players deserve better pay than they get, but I'm not a MLB owner, am I?
  2. burdi is not on the 40, he won't be added for a 2 month stint at the beginning of the season.
  3. ] "is Tommy Milone. He’s got a lot more experience than Alex Meyer. He’s got somewhat close to the same stuff." who needs a preposterous statement tournament? Winner winner chicken dinner! Preposterous statement of the year
  4. hes 21 and has been playing 3rd for 2 years, you'll have that. Inconsistency is the bane of youth.
  5. man is that awesome! And the play by play from MLB network. Stunning! Makes me really happy they don't carry regular season, but man I hope Sano sticks at 3rd. To have the stick to go with good enough up to excellent 3rdbase fielding, dang
  6. its relevant, but, willingham, Kubel, Bartlett are gone, 1. 40 year old brought in, and 2 35/ 1 32 year olds jettisoned and the average drops half a year? Tough to sustain success with a team full of oldsters
  7. its applicable here assuming Molitor and Ryan won't repeat mistakes, it means an improved outfield.
  8. i started out refuting this with "yeah, but Joe Mauer" but then I recalled Parker's advice, and found this http://www.hardballtimes.com/the-state-and-future-of-pitch-framing-research/ Turns out Joe was middle of the pack as a catcher. So I changed my tune. TR has been quoted dozens of times saying he doesn't value pitch framing metrics, turns out he doesn't show evidence of valuing catcher skill either.
  9. im not a fan of either Stauffer or Pelfrey, but of all of the known quantities available to the bullpen, they are 2 of the 3 least worrisome. Stauffer was a decent reliever in a very pitcher friendly park, Pelfrey has had some success as a pitcher in the past. Neither one of them has much of a stake attached to them, so if they blow up in epic fashion, it's easy to pull the hook. My concern is that so much of the bullpen is tied to guys like Fien, Duensing, etc, who we've watched fail in epic fashion for 4 years straight. TR doesn't have 6 high upside relief pitchers knocking on the big league door, he has 2 maybe 3. What about 4-5-6 with injury? Much like the last couple years it's an optionless team, especially in the pitching department.
  10. i brought my 7 month old at the time, I sat in this area and had the experience you recall, except the very end where it butts against the foul pole stays sunny. Section 320 to 324 in the upper half I had a very good experience with my little one
  11. it is spring training w/ the same team that earlier this week had a lengthy TD write up about first base coverage drills. That being said, Joe Mauer is, who he is, and while I'd like to see Arcia-like power from the position, not really feasible at this point. I too would be happy to see Joe return to form somewhat this season, but like Paul, I am disenchanted with the notion that he'll come out of the concussion fog a new man.
  12. http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/board/attachments/ootp-mods/180294d1266085284-target-field-dimensions.jpg Center is bigger in TF, over the Metrodome, LF and RF are virtually identical, but the play seems to be different. I assume due to variability caused by weather. Oh and I'd just like to see Arcia find a position and stick, regardless if he's really good. He'll hit well enough. Hunter on the other hand...
  13. There's nothing wrong with a strong back end of the rotation. It's certainly better than a poor staff 1-5. It's not my 100 million dollars, but even if it were, that's going rate for a team that hasn't developed minor league pitching in close to a decade.
  14. very true, that probably impacts Rosario's 2015 more than how Hicks plays. If Santana is a revelation at shortstop, one would think Rosario would be the primary 5th outfielder, basically on call in the minors in the event of emergency.
  15. it depends on Vargas at DH and how much poor fielding Moli can stomach. I can picture a situation where Arcia or Hunter DHs and Rosario comes up to play LF, but probably not to start the season.
  16. Yours and Dan's work here has been just phenomenal. Thank you!
  17. i lurk and post from wisconsin, the Internet works even on mn twins sites. Welcome aboard, and please continue to contribute!
  18. im optimistic about Rosario because his AFL showing in a very small sample size, a resiliency. He had a crap season in 2014 that appeared in large part due to rust. He looked more like his minor league track record in the AFL statistically which is really encouraging. Compared to the options available, Rosario might be the best major league CF the Twins have. This is as much an indictment of TR as it is a compliment to Rosario.
  19. Arcia might be ok in left. I do not like Hunter in right, or resting on the CF laurels. Hunter will probably not hit well enough to justify how poor his fielding will probably be. If Hunter were a coach, I'd be less pissed, but only a bit. I think the 2 statues in the corners will continue to multiply the pain of poor CF play. However I agree that the infield looks to be a pretty good fielding/hitting combination. I hope Plouffe and Dozier build on 2014 and Mauer shows some fielding prowess and his hitting bounces back. I'm less enthusiastic about Suzuki, but I think he will be serviceable. Edit: it's not just you
  20. it appears he has a good slider, and a good fastball, but doesn't have command of a third pitch. Tough to pitch to hitters a second and third time without a third pitch to keep them honest. I wasn't clear in my value comment, I mean, the Twins traded a good Centerfielder for a prospect who has yet to bear fruit. I think Meyer can contribute to the major league club immediately as a reliever, and still has potential to become a starter with the major league club
  21. id love to see that too, but unfortunately I doubt it will happen. If Nolasco gets out pitched by Gibson, May and Meyer, Nolasco's trade value will be zero and his contract is still too large to eat. The only way Nolasco isn't a starter for the Twins in 2015 is if he's injured. If Nolasco has the season of his life in 2015, he might be tradeable in 2016.
