  1. if managers weren't important, why have one? let alone a backup to take their place when the manager gets tossed from a game.
  2. agreed, but I have doubts that Pohlad could be convinced of that argument. Cutting him means there's no chance of recuperating any of that value. Maybe the odds are low, but not impossible
  3. Molitor should get promoted to the FO at the minor league season's end, and bring up the Eye Chart or Jake Mauer to finish out the season. Do a thorough search as soon as possible including Dougie and Jake in the interview process.
  4. do you really think it's possible Pohlad eats 26 mil for Hughes? I wouldn't have considered it, except they took on the dead contract for Garcia. Man that's an expensive oopsie/extension
  5. 60 day DL is only in season. So you would lose his spot all off season. He's a 2019 guy at best, I'd try to sneak him through the rule 5 draft.
  6. or get claimed and a trade gets worked out
  7. Excerpt from MLBTR "probably had the highest volume of calls” on closer Brandon Kintzler “and some of our other relievers,” general manager Thad Levine tells Jim Bowden and Jim Duquette of MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM." My interpretation "I'd really like to trade kintzler for more than has thus far been offered"
  8. thats what FIP and xFIP try to tell you. The fielding helps, but only one or two ranking positions in terms of runs given up.
  9. i don't think the Twins should full blown "sell". However, rumors are at the deadline, pitching is a sellers market and position players, buyers market. If Santana can return a good prospect plus a gamble, maybe Levine can sign a similar mid rotation or two arm in the offseason and bolster the pitching situation significantly. I guess what I'm saying is, don't pigeon hole yourself in absolutes
  10. if ML ready, why trade for Santana? near ready? sure. ready ready, not likely.
  11. The Twins took on Garcia's salary in the trade. Might the Twins keep that salary (and some/most/all of Santana's salary to increase value of prospect return? Would it actually accomplish that?
  12. I liked your ramblings Seth, your ramblings are more coherent than my composed offerings. I disagree somewhat, in that the Twins cannot stand pat. I don't think the Dodgers series changes any of it. The Twins need to continuously improve, regardless of current situation. I don't think this team has to full on "Sell" to improve for 2018 at the trade deadline. I do believe that Levine could trade some a couple of assets to improve the ML bullpen, and trade some major leaguers to improve the near ready prospect pipeline, maybe a wash in talent, but stabilizing pitching could help this team significantly to reduce the blowups and reliance on a 13 man pitching staff. One or two relievers could still mean all the difference in the world to a push for the wild card as that could lengthen the bench and give Molitor the flexibility to use his whole bullpen. World series contenders? no? Relevant to the division? absolutely, and need to stay that way
  13. "Barry Bonds"? How about "better hitter than Polanco or Giminez"?
  14. agreed only one starter, but id rather the starter be the number one or two depending on availability. Need 2 good setup relievers though.
  15. It seems like Rosario's boneheaded plays drive down the fielding metrics that his tools prop up. Hopefully some extra work in the offseason and ST 2018 will get him put back on course. He's showing some promise with the stick. I was convinced last year and earlier this year he'd swing at everything his whole career. He might have some selectivity streaks.
  16. the point is, if you wear out Haley you are continuing to be hamstrung because he can't be sent to the minors
  17. Mauer is still under contract as your DH in 2018
  18. one starting pitcher? C'mon, gotta aim a little bit higher. Need at least two relievers as well as a bat. 30 to 33 mil gets one good starter (15 to 18 mil) plus two good relievers (4- 6 mil ea) and a DH/bench bat
  19. he needs someone to ride hard and put away wet. Haley needs to come up and be on the immediate schedule
  20. yep, Edit: what Jorgenwest said
  21. Not a fan of Molitors usage of Breslow, he's definitely a LOOGY. At no point this season has there been enough starting pitching for Molitor to afford to use Breslow as a LOOGY. All around bad fit for this team, even if he's the clubhouse leader that Falvine looks for. Hopefully he can be traded.
