  1. to be fair, during the 6 game winning streak, only Erv went 6 innings. 5 of 6 were 5 inning starts or fewer. That's a ton of over exposure. The bullpen was due for a dud. Here's hoping it's only one.
  2. he can, but as you said, much more valuable at 3rd. DHs come and go, don't really need to invest heavily. Rooker looks like he's on the fast track, between him, Sano and Mauer you've got first locked down for the foreseeable future, you might have a half season to full season gap between Mauer and Rooker, but FA stop gaps are available at first. I really want Sano to stay at 3rd, but what if the rigors wear him down quickly? In a couple years maybe? There's not much in the minors for the hot corner. You don't really see 3b change hands a lot. Stop gap types, sure, but the Josh Donaldson deal from Oakland to a Toronto was unique and Oakland got fleeced. I doubt the Twins could replicate Toronto's move.
  3. fielding 3b well at 6'4" and 262 lbs defies logic
  4. maybe, hopefully, but he's a really big man to be diving all over the hot corner and expect to hold up over the season, especially as he gets closer to 30. He already has the rep to be good coming in on a ball, and not so good ranging to his sides. I hope he can continue to defy logic, not so certain he will
  5. they didn't "let him go", he was traded for Mejia. the other Eduard is having a repectable/good season at .817 OPS in a similar role to the Eduardo who didn't get away as a utility player who plays most every day. Oh, you meant Trevor Plouffe... 28.9% k rate, .608 OPS, -3.6 UZR/150 at 3rd base I'd take Joe Mauer over Plouffe 13.3% K rate, .745 OPS 10.8 UZR/150
  6. Vargas or Mauer?
  7. Kohls' headquarters is in Menomonie Falls WI, a suburb of Milwaukee. No wonder you like it. I'm a fan of all things Sconnie, except for the Brewers... still love the Twins
  8. great to see the improvement out of Rosario, seems like Polanco is starting to come around (albeit a very small sample). Can we replicate with Buxton too?
  9. I did listen - and agree that he came across as straightforward. Putting an optimistic lens on a statement does not make it more or less honest or indirect. it's all shades. I'm sure he has high expectations of that group. He's also proven himself to be somewhat pragmatic, and I doubt that he does not have a better "plan B" in the works for 2018 than he had for 2017. He's just not going to put out a tone that might cast doubt on individual players in the system or the system as a whole.
  10. Levine would never over sell optimism to a group of 100 fans on their podcast would he?
  11. ahhh crap article was from March and it was about May.... man I gotta look a bit closer Thanks for clarifying and agreed, 11-12 months recovery plus 2-3 months of "spring training" puts April to June timeframe.
  12. May underwent TJ in late May, 8 month recovery to Early Feb when pitchers and catchers report? I doubt it More likely July or August 2018 return
  13. bold prediction as neither Mauer nor Dozier are under contract in 2019...
  14. i think the window won't truly open until after JM and BD's contracts expire. The holes in the pitching staff are too big and too abundant to fill in one offseason. If Falvine had begun filling those holes last offseason, maybe there would be a chance to really compete in 2018.
  15. they'll buy out Perkins, can't pay 4.5 mil for a LOOGY. My prediction is he retires I predict Hughes takes longer to come back from this surgery, returns mid year, still has nothing and goes back on the 60 day DL and stays there the following season as well until his contract is up I think May could come back mid season into the rotation as an injury replacement.
  16. he could have played Giminez or Kepler at first. Heck, get Grossman some reps there. Gotta put your best lineup out there every day
  17. you "want" to see Park? He hasn't done anything for me to want to see that. Agreed with the prevailing sentiment for wanting youth. I also want to see the continuation of the FO and scouting makeover. While I really like Mr Goin and feel like he did the best he could with what he had, it's encouraging to me to see Falvey and Levine to remake the FO in the image of their design.
  18. agreed. They also need players behind Gonsalves et. al. to gain experience in the upper levels of the minors. Depth needs to created not purchased
  19. Polanco is a first year player and out of options.... uff da... 4 years of first year eligibility doesn't really inspire So it was Molitor that brought in 400k more fans and not the 22 more wins than 94 or 95?
  20. I find that the older I get, the more/better equipped I become to cope with grief and adversity. He's still a young man, and may not have as much experience with such things. I don't know that any of this is the case, and human beings are more complex than this, but I can see how this could be one of many contributing factors.
  21. oh yeah! Result is pretty much the same, but how he got there was the question
  22. whoever said it was "good"? People do lots of things, including buy whole sports franchises for bad reasons.
