    I’m tendering Odorizzi. He paired with Mejia is a great stacking duo. It’s rare to see the 5th through 10th starters being 7-8 inning per start no matter how good the rotation. I like the idea. That being said, the rotation need at least 1 upgrade, and I don’t see it feasible to stack 3 rotation spots, mostly due to inflexibility with the bullpen

    exactly right, and we know that a number (maybe 200 or so) of innings are coming from pitchers not on the 25 man roster.

    I like Morneau and Hawkins, but need to hear more to make an informed decision. I too would be OK if Dick got phased out over the same time. Management has changed, Manager changed, broadcast team changes too... I couldn't imagine doing play by play or color and wonder why it's setup the way it is. Radio, I get. TV you can see what's going on, so it seems to me, having two or three analytical and knowledgeable people discuss the game without describing each and every play is the way to go.

    https://www.mlb.com/news/2019-mlb-free-agents/c-293292274 The first base market doesn’t do a lot for me, so I’m on Tom’s track to improve DH, OF and middle infield via FA. Kepler is pretty much a lock to be my starting CF until Buxton forces his way up to the bigs.

    He did a good job of tip-toeing through the curmudgeon mine field. He didn’t back away from the opener thing without tieing himself to it either. I agree with others , very geniune, smart, well spoken.

    there were 10 or 11 pitchers that exceeded 200 innings in 2018. I don’t believe any of them to be free agents. Johan relieving is irrelevant, and I agree, if you can throw like deGrom or Johan, let her buck! I just don’t see it as likely that the Twins can acquire that from the outside, and if they do, it’s a prospect that “comes out of nowhere” in 3 years but the TD minor league die hards have fawned over for 2 years

    that dang hamate bone injury keeps flaring up. I hope Buxton gets his wrist cleaned up early in the offseason.

    for the annual cost of one needle mover starter the FO can get two or three lights out relievers (or two lights out relievers and one ok starter) There’s 60 mil to spend this season, but 2 years from now, there’s not near as much payroll flexibility when the young core goes to free agency. Relievers can provide much more bang for your buck and come on two or three year deal

    All conjecture and I'm talking out of my rear end, but... Until 10 years ago he was able to play a 162 game season at a high level. but if he could play, he can travel and watch, coach, and manage - the exertion level has to be much lower as the manager. Speaking personally as a person who would be identified by others as "disabled", all I want is the opportunity to succeed or fail. Baldelli has shown the tenacity and competitiveness to be a major league baseball player. He's shown the mental toughness to gut out the physical demands of being a manager. All he wants is the opportunity to succeed or fail, and I applaud the FO to give him his shot based on his merit

    Innovative - I want someone who can pull together all of the data, analysis, and experience to create a strategic advantage. All the information in the world doesn't mean diddly if you don't do something with it. Something creative that no one else has done before. Bullpenning, Launch Angles, Money ball, all things that are readily accessible to the media and fans. What are the tactics and strategies to be implemented from new learning?

    upthread I suggested free agent signing - There's a few of us in agreement that Kepler's bat doesn't play as starting RF, but does as CF.

    I'm in the "Buxton starts in AAA until he proves he can hit" camp. Kepler is then my tentative starting CF for '19. If Buxton somehow figures out the bat and hits like he did for that magical 2 months... Kepler is the 4th outfielder and Cave goes bye bye.

    this is a thread about “what if Kepler is what he has been?” Infield isn’t really relevant to the discussion. I think Kepler is what he has been, which is valuable, but in need of an upgrade in hit tool for RF but perfectly passable in CF, and excellent 4th OF

That goofy loop in his swing where he kind of chops down and the pushes his hands back up... I wonder how much time has been spent trying to get him to flatten his swing out so the barrel stays in the zone longer?
