  1. Changing tune yet after the Jays series?
  2. Astudillo never caught an inning...
  3. https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/phillies/trades-pennant-race-and-maybe-big-award-await-gabe-kapler-phillies-2nd-half-mlb-trade-deadline Sounds like there’s some interest from the Phillies in Escobar as a second choice to Machado
  4. you’re a 5 win player until you’re not. The risk/reward of free agency... Earlier this season, there was a new low to the depths of streakiness Dozier had embodied. He’s turning it around now, so there’s some gas left in the tank. His recent performance most likely shortened his next contract, but the annual average is still prolly going to be in the 10-12 mil range, just as if it would have been if 2018 mirrored 2017. Only 2-3 years instead of 4-5...
  5. this is way oversimplified. There’s no way to know what his motivation is.
  6. agreed! It could also be the Twins have a lower threshold for acceptable return too.
  7. As this season goes on, I have my doubts Escobar will be back because he may get traded at the deadline and a larger contract offer from somewhere else. Similarly, I think the FO non-tenders both Mauer and Dozier. I think the FO may re-sign Adrianza, but who knows? Agreed, it would be nice to know what you have in the tandem of Polanco and Gordon, but three issues. 1) Gordon hasn’t yet shown readiness. 2) Gordon, Polanco, Sano in 2b/SS/3b scares the daylights outta me. 3) Dozier, Polanco, Sano scares me worse
  8. Yeah DFA Brian Wilson, we don’t need his good, good, good....good vibrations when we’re this down in the dumps. DFA Bobby Wilson while your at it, he can’t hit fer crap!
  9. my recollection is that the eighties were down offensive years, and our current generation is up in terms of power hitting. Does 1 in 10 apply for Pucket as the bar? He was a very poor poer hitter when he first came up, he slapped everything. Good observation and a nifty quick math guide!
  10. why did the chicken cross the road? To show the skunk it could be done!
  11. I’d be shocked if Sano played in the bigs again in ‘18. Rebuild is in session and with Buxton and Sano that means some serious developmental work.
  12. Twins did not record an out at first base for this game. Gold Glove defense at first wasted... http://mlb.com/r/article?ymd=20180703&content_id=284106326&vkey=news_min&c_id=min
  13. it’s pretty clear that the Twins development system has been broken for years. It shouldn’t be a shock if any of the core need some fine tuning in the minors. Buxton especially was rushed. I don’t think the FO has given up on Buxton and Sano, but do agree that they’ve determined the fixes required will push legit contention to 2020.
  14. It looks like the Twins are open for business. July 3 seems very early for this type of article. https://www.mlb.com/news/twins-trade-rumors-active-sellers-at-deadline/c-284061192 The quote at the end of the anonymous NL GM saying “One National League team official believes the Twins are open to discussing nearly every player on the roster, even those under control beyond the 2018 season.” Is pretty much flat out saying Gibson is getting traded.
  15. I drank the kool-ade last season, when others were saying ‘19 or ‘20 is the window.... I feel foolish. I’m with you, this version of Gibby isn’t going to make it to ‘20 or ‘21
  16. If they sell (as I believe prudent) who the closer is, doesn’t really matter, as they won’t be getting any saves anyways. Rodney should stay the closer, he can tune up the bullpen car, maybe jazz it up with some cool decals. Time to get triple A guys some middle relief experience. My vote is Gonsalves should replace Belisle right away.
  17. If the price is right, absolutely trade him. Anyone for that matter.
  18. "The rise of 5 strikeouts per game average is not because the pitchers are better, it is the new game, and it makes Ks meaningless and boring." Please expand. I was really interested, but feel like your final premise concluded a bit prematurely.
  19. agreed. Speculatively, this could also be Falvey admitting that the organization is still a bit too hands off when it comes to developing players that are already major leaguers. Gardy used to whine about minor leaguers coming up unprepared for the bigs, the last few years of his tenure were a complete joke in terms of fundamentally sound baseball. Molitor’s teams are currently no better in terms of fundamentally sound baseball. It’s on the individuals to put in the work, but... It’s also on the organization to put its players in the best position to succeed. That’s systematic consistency, and it’s still not clear to me that it’s in place. I think real organizational change is currently in process. Again, what do I know? This could all be more of the same and we’ll never see the Twins develop another star ever again....
  20. I think you are on to something here. http://m.startribune.com/twins-send-miguel-sano-to-minors-after-loss-to-tigers/485595781/ I characterize Sano going to A+ ball as a resset. I imagine the conversation with Sano to have been “Look Miguel, you are extremely important to the organization and I’m not sure where things got off course, but we need to correct course. We can get you the best support in Ft Myers so you can get your strength in your legs back and your swing mechanics back in alignment” Falvey describes it as a reset, and I think it’s a reset from how Sano was managed by the old regime to how he will be managed going forward. I’m still in Sano’s corner despite my feelings about the offseason allegations. My hope for this young man is that 2017-2018 is a period that he can learn and grow from, and come out on the backside a better person and better player. It’s really difficult to make that kind of transformation without support and personal conviction. I think Sano has the personal conviction part. No one gets to the MLB without it. It appears that the support part from the Twins is changing and I think (hope) for the better.
