  1. Kevin Kiermaier has as many XBH as the entire Twins line up
  2. Through 6 games (17.2 IP) the entire Twins bullpen has amassed 9 Ks between them. There are 30 MLB pitchers who have at least 9 Ks individually.
  3. Mauer has a 3-game hitting streak!!
  4. Joining the thread late, but man this has been beyond brutal to watch.
  5. Lewis Thorpe could have pitched right handed better than Nolasco today.
  6. 6.30am in Sydney *stretches, yawns, checks box score* That went well. Back to bed I think.
  7. Suzuki: .265/.320/.360 (.680 OPS) in 120 games, just enough in management's eyes to keep Pinto marginalised, much to the annoyance of many TDers. I'd rank them Gomes, Perez, Suzuki, Avila, Flowers
  8. I think it would take both Hicks and Rosario to tank over the next couple of weeks to see a Schafer/Robinson CF combo go North. If either of Hicks or Rosario continues to hit and gets to the end of ST with an OPS north of .800, I think the CF job is theirs with Schafer backing up. I honestly didn't think Rosario had any kind of shot a few weeks ago, but the comments coming from Molitor and Ryan seem to suggest he may do if Hicks falters and Rosario keeps swinging a hot bat
  9. I thought we got him for my Adopt-a-Prospect last year - Miguel Sulbaran. Maybe I should embrace Nunez as this year's Adopt-a-Journeyman

  11. Count me with Chief being nervous as to Rosario's attitude/application. Slightly off topic, Chattanooga could have a spectacular line up at least early in the season this year. Imagine: Polanco SS Rosario LF Buxton CF Sano 3B Walker RF Kepler 1B Harrison DH Michael 2B Turner C Berrios starting with Reed setting up for Burdi. Almost worth a road trip, even from Australia!
  12. Pinto in the lineup for Magellanes
  13. I have to say I have a hard time believing this given his injury history and the fact he hasn't been an effective starter since 2010. It would be a nice sentimental journey, but I just can't find room for him at this point.
  14. Gibbons has only made 2 starts, but been impressive in both. Hoping to catch him when Melbourne comes to Sydney between 8-11 Jan.
  15. Dillon Gee? No thanks. 6ish K/9 and sliding over the past 3 years, same with K/BB. Only 1 season with >1 WAR. Maybe I'm missing something, but doesn't seem like an upgrade from where I'm sitting. Certainly wouldn't part with Santana to get him.
  16. Not really close to the HOF for me. Durable, consistent, solid glove (great for a few years but some of those 9 GGs feel a bit gratuitous), good mix of speed and power for sure, but the fact that he has never been a serious MVP candidate in any season, only has 2 seasons with WAR >5.0 and sports a career OPS+ of 111 points to a good but not great player. He's had a very good career, and I'm sure will have his case considered, but I can't see it myself.
  17. Arcia should be going nowhere at this point. I don't much care whether he plays LF or RF as long as the team picks one and plugs him in there for the foreseeable future. I don't think it's being at all aggressive to see a .260/.320/.480/.800 line with 25-30 HR from Arcia next year. At age 24. Despite the K rate I have much more faith in Arcia than Vargas. As far as Hunter is concerned: by all means use him to sell some season tickets, get the best of his clubhouse presence/mentoring/experience during spring training and the early part of the year, sprinkle 250-300 AB between OF/DH and flip him to someone in need of a bench bat at the all-star break.
  18. Cards just traded Shelby Miler for Jason Heyward. Interesting move, presumably with an eye on locking up Heyward beyond next year.
  19. If the return was worth it, you could have Escobar hold down 3rd for a couple of months until Sano shows he is ready. Plouffe has ongoing value to the team as a 3B/LF option though, so no need to give him away unless someone out there clearly over values him.
  20. Hats off. Awesome effort.
  21. Sano could probably put up numbers similar to Arcia this year if he went north out of spring training - low avg, lots of Ks, plenty of power, questionable defence. If there wasn't a solid 3B option ahead of him I'd say bring him up and let him learn on the job. Plouffe is a solid option though, and there's no harm in giving Sano a couple of months in AAA to get the rust off that surgically repaired elbow, get some confidence he can make all the plays he needs to from hot corner and blow away AAA pitching before bringing him up, hopefully for good. It may sound counter-intuitive given Buxton has barely hit a ball above A+, but I would have more confidence in him contributing from the get go, if only with the glove and on the base paths in the first instance before his bat catches up (which I'm sure it would). TBH though I don't see either of them breaking camp with the MLB club. If I was betting, I'd guess we'll see Sano at end May/early June and Buxton after the All Star break.
  22. The right move, but hard to make all the same. I'm not surprised though. Maybe these are not [Jim's] father's Twins after all. All of the coaches going is a sign of collective responsibility on the part of the whole bench team. The new guy will have an opportunity to bring some back, and I'd expect at least Bruno and maybe Cuellar for a bit of continuity. I can't see any way Anderson comes back. I've said before I think this group of emerging players needs a new voice in the clubhouse. If that's an internal candidate my choice would be Dougie Baseball. If they go outside I'd hope they get Dave Martinez. Either of those guys would be fine by me. As others have said, very classy on all parts on how this has been handled.
