  1. Two questions: 1. Would you trade Joe Mauer for Ryan Howard straight up (noting their respective contracts)? 2. Did it depress the hell out of you that answering question1 took more than a nanosecond?
  2. Polanco is back with the Lookouts tonight, so looks like Rosario will come back off the paternity list and we are stuck with 13 pitchers for a while longer. Sigh.
  3. I'm not optimistic. Like Bark, I am a long-time fan of Joe's and want him to succeed, but he's in the discussion for being the worst 1B in MLB so far this season (ranks 23rd of 25 qualifying 1B in OPS, WAR, RC/27), and has been brutal over the past 6 weeks (.224/.273/.321 in May and June). I don't know what the answer is, but he needs some kind of lightbulb moment soon. Maybe someone like Parker can highlight something in his swing or approach that is contributing to this slump. Even if he suddenly went back to being a reasonable approximation of his former self and hit .300/.370/.430 for the rest of the year, that would translate to a final line of .285/.350/.400. That feels like a best case scenario to me right now.
  4. 117 pitches for Gibson tonight. Not sure that would have happened on Gardy's watch. Not watching the game on TV, but presumably Bert expects him back out for the 7th...
  5. *scratches head* Nope, sorry.
  6. Is this Duensing's farewell performance before being DFA'd for Polanco? Looks like he's trying hard to beat out Stauffer for the honour
  7. Jacque Jones was a career .275/.325/.450 hitter which feels like a reasonable hitting comp for Rosario, although with some upside for Eddie in the field
  8. Brian Dozier is tied for second in the Major Leagues with 28 XBH, 1 behind Josh Donaldson
  9. Let's go Sam! Hoping the big Aussie can break out this year
  10. Isn't the narrative that Mauer is having an ordinary season thus far given his OPS of .722 and 0.2 WAR, but that a .500 BABIP with runners in scoring position has generated a few more RBI than might otherwise be expected? Or are you contending that Mauer has some control over the outcomes in those high leverage situations (in which case it would be helpful if he exerted it all the time). I'd expect his overall line to improve and his line with RISP to normalize over time but I'm struggling to see the "reinventing" here unless I'm missing something - (which is quite possible by the way )
  11. Hicks is being held to a pretty high standard here. Seriously, the kid is crushing AAA pitching right now, from the left and right sides. .976 OPS is second in the IL, he's tied for the lead in XBH and hitting the ball with the authority that has really been missing in the last 2 years. Over the past couple of seasons there has been a general clamour (which I have supported) for him to be sent down and earn his way back. As of now, I'd say he's done just that.
  12. First Twin to hit a home run on his first ML pitch apparently
  13. Welcome to the Major Leagues, Eddie.
  14. A lot seems to have been on Duensing lately...
  15. Eduardo Escobar is also not far behind with about 55 PA
  16. Danny Santana is the only player in the major leagues with at least 75 PA to have not drawn a walk.
  17. In other news, Buxton 2-2 with a BB, 3B and 2 SB so far. Good to see.
  18. Yep, Buxton's last 5 games have seen .333/.478/.500 with 3 SB and 5/1 BB/K. Hoping that represents a corner turned. Confident Sano won't be far behind. As others have said, there's plenty of rust for these two to shake off
  19. Good job Pelf. Enjoying the cricket references
  20. I thought Molitor was a stat-savvy new age manager. What's with the old school sacrificing and giving away outs? Edit: Although I see it scored a run, but still...
  21. 4 runs is a bit greedy, no? I'm sure 1 would have been enough for Price.
  22. West coast games are great for us as I can justify a lunch time beer while watching the game. By the way, wishing you all a happy ANZAC Day. Today marks 100 years since the Gallipolli landings in WW1. Thoughts and thanks to all who served, wherever they are, on what is a special day for Australians.
