  1. It is interesting how the Twins have collected so many power bats. I can't wait to see how it works out. I believe Parker had an article about the Twins maybe finding a market inefficiency there. Perhaps he was on to something. In the era of power hitters the Twins had good defense and the piranhas. Now in the era of WAR, OBP, and defense the Twins have power hitters. Not sure where the pitching will come from though.....
  2. You're good. It's just a joke. Like the article in question.
  3. I think most people liked Punto. The problem was Gardenhire liked him a bit too much. We had a lot of fun with that. He was a good player to root for and I wish him well in retirement.
  4. Great clip. What in the hell were the receivers doing on that play? There was 3 of them over there.
  5. I always read the comments. It was fairly clear that a lot of people didn't read the article. Tsk Tsk.
  6. 8 pages of comments? This is one of the most half assed articles I've ever read. It's really not possible to judge the offseason for any team yet, but this isn't much of an effort. It doesn't really have a lot to say about any of the moves or players involved. He just gave high ratings to the teams who got the marquee free agents. It's not like you can fault the Rays for not signing David Price or discount the 200 million dollar investment. This guys other articles are about selfie sticks and how Kyle Shwarber broke a windshield. You guys are better than this.
  7. Wow. They have the Royals at 76 wins and last in the AL Central. Makes me feel better about the Twins projection.
  8. It's been a pretty disappointing offseason for sure. The overall payroll is not really the issue for me though. If they would of been able to move Plouffe and Nolasco and replaced them with relievers or prospects I would of been happy. Maybe that wasn't possible. In previous seasons they signed some guys to long term contracts when the team wasn't going to compete anyways. They spent money, but it was kind of wasted. The Twins just need to make better moves and have a plan. If they didn't like the players available this year the smart move would be to spend that money in international free agency. I hear it's a strong group and you could gain a lot of assets that don't even have to be on the 40 man roster. The odds of the Twins doing that is pretty low of course.
  9. Glad to hear he's working on strength training. It's probably the best thing he can do to stay competitive as he ages. Hope it works.
  10. The Mets would not move Duda to make room for Wright. Wright hasn't hit in 2 years and they can't rely on him. Moving him to 1st would be as bad as us moving Mauer to first. I do like your creativity in moving Mauer to the outfield, but I think he's way to slow. If we were to acquire another first baseman we would have to get rid of Mauer. Better of just keeping Arcia and hoping he can be the left handed power bat and play outfield. The simple solution is just moving Plouffe for a reliever.
  11. My main problem is that I can't think of any pitchers who had a bad K rate in the lower minors and then turned it around later. I'm sure it's happened, but no one comes to mind. At the same time I've never seen him pitch, so I really can't say too much. He may just be working on multiple pitches which is necessary for being a top of the rotation pitcher. I'd rate him about the same and Gonsalves right now. Even though though they are very different pitchers. Stewarts drop in velocity also worries me. I'd rate Thorpe and Jay ahead of him right now.
  12. That's probably better. I have to admit I'm starting to doubt Stewart.
  13. How about Murphy, Stewart, and Arcia. That seems more than fair considering what we have seen teams get for position players this offseason.
  14. It is linear. There are 27 outs per team in a game of baseball. How many of those are divisible by 3? Why are you arguing this?
  15. Uh.. There's 3 options. 0,1, and 2. Other than the first few hitters of the game any option is as likely as the other. What's incredible about that?
  16. I always feel bad for the number 8 hitter. He just knows he's not going to see great pitches with 2 outs. I'd assume thats about 1/3 of the time.
  17. Well that's good. My main problem is the absurd blackout area though. Where I live the games are blacked out for the White Sox, Cubs, Tigers, and Reds. Even if I get the single team package for the Twins, those games will be blocked out.
  18. I can't help but notice the Twins lost an all-star in the last expansion draft. Don't want that happening again. I tried making a list, but realized it would take me forever to make the last few choices. The Twins would likely lose 3 players with the amount of good prospects and young players they have.
  19. When we were having the debate about Mauer moving to first I felt the hall of fame was on the line for him. I don't blame him for moving, but becoming a below average first baseman that early in his career probably stops him from getting in. The same thing goes for Santana and his injuries. If they had been able to win a couple of World Series titles they may have still been able to get in. As it is now I don't see it happening.
  20. This is really the only option for most small and mid-market teams to complete. Some may be able to manage to avoid it with good management, but most will have to rebuild periodically. I like the new rules because they at least give the small market teams a chance. How many prospects did the Twins pass on because they weren't able to sign them in the old system? That was infuriating. Letting the big market teams have the best free agents and the best prospects leaves very little parity in the game. We like to blame Gardy for failing to win in the playoffs, but we forget that the team he was losing to was the Yankees who had every advantage. This is not something the players union has any right to complain about. They fought tooth and nail to avoid any kind of salary cap which is what would actually solve this problem.
  21. I really hate this practice in baseball. At least they're doing it during the offseason in this situation.
  22. You'd probably end up getting into some debates about the definition of irony.
  23. I agree. It's the best thing we have to talk about this time of year. The reason there's some hand ringing is because a lot of us can see your rotation happening. Given the Twins track record they will go with the veterans. Nolasco is 33 and has 2 good years to 8 bad years in the league. We know what he is. I'd give him about a 5 percent chance of having a good year at this point. If the Twins put him out there in hopes that he will build value and they will be able to shed his contract I will be real mad. Other teams will be paying players to win games and we will be playing games to win money.
  24. Hmm. Now if the White Sox trade for Plouffe they'll have all the 3rd baseman!
  25. With the roster constructed as it is now, Moliter does not have a choice. Too many average starters and not enough relievers. I'd like to see them trade one starter and get one reliever. It's likely we'll start seeing some good relievers start coming up from the minors soon. So this is likely a temporary problem. There's still some time until spring training, so we'll see what happens. The only thing that would make me angry is if we see Nolasco starting and May in the pen. Pretty sure all of Twins Daily will be blowing up if that happens.
