  1. You have no idea if this is true or not. What we do know is he was recently highly regarded, the Braves handled him in a unusual manner, and the Twins have been interested in him for some time. I would be very surprised if we don't see Gilmartin at Target Field at some point in time.
  2. Eades was the 2011 Cape Cod Pitcher of the Year who ended up the #2 starter at LSU his sophomore and junior years behind 2 different first round picks. Not much to be unhappy about.
  3. Exactly! When Meyer is ready to shine on the big stage they will find a spot for him, as it should be. This won't be another Gibson, where the rotation imploded and they were looking for a savior. Long term, I don't believe it hurt Gibson, but it certainly didn't help him.
  4. Terry Ryan stuck to his game plan of taking no shortcuts. Most on the board can already name the projected opening day lineup for 2015 and now can pretty much fill in the starting rotation also. Many teams rebuild thru the draft, yet only Buxton of draft classes 2012, 2013, and 2014, will be in the first wave. Approximately a decade ago, we started an initiative to improve our International presence and we are now among the top teams in that area. Nothing has really changed, it's just The Twins Way.
  5. Brock, Plouffe has been in the organization since 2004 and Parmelee since 2006. I think the decision on both has already been made and we're just waiting for it to play out. I agree, I would prefer they cut them like Hendriks, but I believe they think if they play their cards right, they can get at least something in return. Same is true for Hammer and Doumit. No one is getting terminally blocked and we're not going to ring the bell next season anyway.
  6. Welcome, good first post! I think they will trade Correia if it appears the starting rotation will be crowded, but probably not until at least early ST performances. Veteran inning eaters are going for up to 8M per year and it couldn't but help his career to get as far away from this board as possible.
  7. Ryan said Swarzak and Duensing should come to ST stretched out, about the same time he said Sano and Buxton were not untouchable and well before the signing of 3 free agent starting pitchers. I would put them down for Plan C and would expect to see them start only if we find ourselves in a race again with the Loveable Losers for the 4th pick.
  8. Mike, is that the same Fangraphs which recently predicted our favorite team was positioning themselves to be a true powerhouse in the American League Central?
  9. I agree with you, always take the BPA. That said, I can't help noticing Turner looks like he may be available to us. A college SS some have said is close to major league ready would be hard to pass up. Turner is my #1 choice. No one likes to lose, but there is a time and place. Buxton, Stewart, and Turner will help us all forget.
  10. Our favorite team has backed themselves into the too much starting pitching corner after 3 straight seasons of losing 90+ games. The FO has chosen to go with several familiar, veteran inning eaters for a season where a .500 record would be a blessing, awaiting several much anticipated top starting pitching prospects to filter into the rotation. To accumulate too much starting pitching, they did not add an albatross contract, nor did they touch the farm system. Said veteran inning eaters, may well be attractive trade chips at the next trade deadline and the one that follows. I have a hard time seeing the downside on all this.
  11. When Doumit was extended in June of 2012, Ryan had been back for 7 months and few if any knew the Twins were entering into a full blown rebuild. IIRC John Bonnes wrote an article in August of 2013, which directly addressed the subject of the Twins rebuilding for the first time on this board. The article generated some fairly diverse views. Edit: John's article was called Judging a Rebuild dated 8-27-13
  12. Ryan's trades have been solid and timed well. Extending Doumit was a solid move for anyone not blessed with fan board hindsight.
  13. I have no doubt left-handed starting pitchers are on the to do list, and he did end up with Kris Johnson and his options in the Morneau trade. It doesn't appear there will be one where we draft, but we have several borderline prospects in the high minors. I think Ryan will make some small deals or pick ups.
  14. The good thing is we are having a civil discussion about our starting pitching depth. I was hoping for 2 FA starting pitchers, but not expecting two I like as well as Nolasco and Hughes, and was pretty sure Pelfrey would come back but not at such an attractive price. Game Thread is always fun, but this year it will be better.
  15. Terry Ryan has a lifetime deal with the Pohlads, in fact they are negotiating an extension. They want to make it hereditary.
  16. When you're as bad as we were last season, for the sake of progress, there will always be a small chance you're throwing the baby out with the bath water. In defense of the necessity of taking this small chance, we basically held open auditions the past 3 Septembers. I'm so tired of posters talking about this guy being blocked and this guy didn't get this or that guy didn't get that. Well, welcome to Major League Baseball. Also, the prolonged agony of each subtraction on the 40 man roster. Well guess what. The team we watched last season doesn't have 40 players worth protecting at this point in time. Don't look at each individual transaction in a vacuum, look at it within the context of a major rebuilding process being done by a well run organization.
  17. The Twins were in the exact same situation last year as this year, is not a fact. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any of my teams that were ever in the exact same situation from one year to the next, much less a rebuilding team. The Twins did not suddenly change the plan. A light did not suddenly come on. I'm hopeful that more and more are starting to realize, the Twins are a well-run, respected organization that doesn't take shortcuts.
  18. Jeremy, I like what you've done. I think next year at this time your list my be closer than most. I really like Gonsalves, but his mechanics are as raw as I can recall seeing. I can't believe he didn't take at least the JUCO route. I played against a lefty about the same size, taken in the 3rd-4th round and he was so much smoother.
  19. Pelfrey is a solid 3rd pick up. IMO the two most likely bounce back candidates next season are Pelfrey and Gibson. Our plan B rotation of Diamond, Worley, Denuno, and Johnson is no worse than our starting 5 last year. Our starting rotation has gone from the worst in baseball to not so good, and is well positioned to be average by the start of 2015.
  20. Why would a major Seattle paper publish it in Minnesota?
  21. I agree. I bet Crash Davis can't even spell FX.
  22. I agree. I was offering quality for quality. I would open the farm for a starting pitcher better than anyone we currently have or our SS of the future. Not much else.
