  1. I agree with you. Pencil in a right-handed hitter with power in the 4 or 5 and be done with it. Christmas List 1. Arroyo in, Correia traded 2. Morales in, Hammer traded 3. Drew in 4. Justin Turner in, Florimon and/or Escobar out Christmas only comes once a year.
  2. Mike, I'm pretty sure you can't effectively cut payroll again this year, until the year at least starts. What happened to your fascinating study about WAR's where you conclusively proved our favorite team was just a few moves away from capturing the Central?
  3. I think a better comparison maybe Joe Benson. I'm not sure who Bill James is, but my high school and college coaches had the same preference.
  4. Any way you can hold on 'til 2015?
  5. I've never found the argument, they have made this mistake in the past, therefore they should continue to make the same mistake, very compelling. The too much starting pitching disease, is not a bad problem to have. I'm surprised that the same prolific posters who were demanding our favorite team sign multiple free agent starting pitchers, are now uncomfortable Deduno, Diamond, and Worley may get beat out, and that Gibson and Meyer may receive additional time to succeed before they hit the big stage. I simply do not see the downside in all this.
  6. So after three 90+ loss seasons in a row, you are campaigning for our favorite team to award scholarships?
  7. Mike, believe it or not when you're revamping a starting rotation, the most important consideration is not your outfield defense. Regardless, there are some on this board who feel our outfield defense will be very good in the not too distant future.
  8. Our favorite team has the too much starting pitching disease. Who is accountable for blocking Gibson, Worley, Diamond, and Deduno from being our stellar starting rotation come 2014?
  9. I would. I'm guessing Ryan wants to permanently fix the blackhole at SS before he rides off into the sunset, but at that price three years works just fine. IMO Morales at DH is a great move for a team dreaming about October baseball, but once again at that price I would buy.
  10. I think Willie Mays will be up sometime after All-Star break and Hicks will be a long time member of our favorite team's core. Hammer will be traded at the deadline and we will be arguing over whether we received a big enough haul.
  11. At some level, you need to almost blindly accumulate top starting pitching prospects because the burn rate is so high. For our favorite team, 5 is scary, 10 is about right, and 15 is an abundance of riches. I've heard both Brad Pitt and Andy MacPhail say they use roughly a 3 to 1 ratio. Three top starting pitching prospects, yields one solid major league starter.
  12. I like Castro also. I would start with Berrios and Thorpe. King Theo is in a rebuild just like us, but their ETA is 2016. His future position talent rivals ours, but we have more starting pitching prospects.
  13. I agree with you. Trader Terry First Scout has some trading chips. I'm hoping Correia goes out the back door, as Arroyo comes in the front. I actually like the idea of Florimon playing next to Sano, but I'm guessing SS with be addressed prior to 2015. Also, I think Brock first mentioned, there could be a 24 month gap between Meyer and our next top starting pitching prospect. I wouldn't be surprised to see this gap addressed a la Gilmartin.
  14. I think you're too late. The board seems to have given up on Hicks, Gibson, Eades, and Arcia as an outfielder.
  15. The ones I googled didn't reference CF or rookie ball and in fact were both approximately a year old. I agree visual observations are relevant, particularly if one has a basic understanding of the learning curve most young players face.
  16. I don't disagree, but the 2-3 scouting reports I've seen project he'll be no worse than average, and the Twins won't limit a 22 year-old to DH anytime soon. I think he'll be fine once he settles in at LF or RF.
  17. I may be wrong, but I do not believe you can deal damaged goods. If they were open and honest and the Twins bought that's one thing, but MLB isn't a buyer's beware situation. Edit: Mayo just ranked him as the Twin's 13th rated prospect.
  18. I had no idea your personal prospect evaluation trumps our favorite team's scouting department. The trade was about continuing to address our organization's need for left handed starting pitching. Who better to seek out than a prospect you previously considered drafting in the first round?
  19. You also have a better feel for ETA times. Gibson....Meyer....May?................Gilmartin/Eades
  20. I may be in the minority here, but I don't think billionaires are naïve. I'm not saying the Pohlads didn't cordially mention they had a few extra million in the milk money, but free agency only happens once a year. Our favorite team had this planned for months.
  21. I agree. I wanted Zunino because I didn't think the Twins could afford to wait and I've always felt pitchers are too risky in the top five.
  22. Great move! With Kris Johnson and now Gilmartin, it looks like they're rethinking the pecking order and roles of our lefties.
  23. How much more recent can there be than any day now? It's getting almost impossible to miss the irresistible force descending on Target Field.
  24. I would have doubted it a month ago, but with the Vargas signing etc., I believe Corriea is tradeable and I don't believe Ryan is done. Besides Perkins and our farm, whom I believe are untouchable, do we have a better trading chip? I never felt The Hammer would be traded after 2012 or even now, until we have at least a prayer of right handed power in the lineup or the return was off the charts. When Sano comes, The Hammer goes IMO.
