  1. Our favorite team never panics, so you will never hear it from them. I would guess you will hear that sentiment attributed to them by members, but it will never hold up under close scrutiny. This not the first time an outstanding prospect has been injured and it's a long time until opening day 2015.
  2. One player does not constitute the core. The checkbook has been out since November and there is no reason to believe a single injury, which is just part of the game, will cause our favorite team to take their baseball and go home.
  3. Yeah, kind of hard to believe our favorite team's farm director.
  4. To me, there is a big difference between counting chickens and counting one chicken.
  5. Mike, you are creating artificial barriers here. Our favorite team has plenty of money and roster space to sign Drew if they are so moved, even after signing Pelfrey and Suzuki. It's not an either or thing.
  6. Mike, it's to be expected you're confused when comparing starting pitching to SS's. You can never have too much starting pitching, never heard that said about SS's. It's always confusing when you compare apples to oranges.
  7. If you are typifying my post #108 as saying we spent 84M solely for placeholders for prospects you are being silly. I will be happy to clarify the three distinct points I was attempting to make.
  8. If our favorite team needs to bring up 13 pitchers for a week here and there, in order to showcase one to make a trade etc., I don't think it's any big deal. I'm hoping some of our vets show well early so we can deal them off. If this was a win now situation, we could have easily dealt our top prospects and been the talk of the baseball world. I'm much more concerned with what the team looks like in September than coming out of ST.
  9. It definitely made the team better. The move was made to bring the worst starting staff in baseball toward respectability. What's underestimated is, it allows us to bring two of our most highly rated starting pitching prospects to Target Field when our favorite team feels they are ready, and not rushing them out of desperation. Further, although additional moves may be necessary, we have bridged the gap until our own numerous starting pitching prospects are ready in 2016 and/or 2017. All this was accomplished without taking on an albatross contract or touching our farm system.
  10. I was thinking the same thing and I would add Stewart when the time comes. It appears likely we will receive close to a top 10 draft pick in 2015, and then not see that rarefied atmosphere for many years. We have no albatross contacts, and as much payroll flexibility as any team in baseball. I could see us considering Longoria type deals with Sano, Buxton, Meyer, Stewart, and our #5 in 2014. Some time ago I read an article where Jim Pohlad acknowledged baseball is cyclical. They were in the process of forming a committee to study and try to alter this phenomenon. Our favorite team dominated the Central from 2002-2010 and they have every intention of doing it again.
  11. I agree I am optimistic, but they are not a pile of 4's and 5's. Hughes, Gibson, and Meyer have all been highly rated in the not so distant past. To me Nolasco is roughly equal to Santana and I never felt the 2nd pick was in the way of the right deal. Over the last few months, we have heard it both ways. That said, I would be very happy if we signed Santana.
  12. I've never heard anyone question whether he will remain at SS. His lowest rated tool is power, which I've seen projected at 12-15 HR's. No doubt our favorite team has him under the microscope, as was Stewart.
  13. I really have no idea what you're talking about but let's start here. When a starter is assigned a #, it's based on stuff, make up, and stats. It can be quite subjective. Many on this board believe we will contend in 2015. I'm surprised you are unaware of this. We both agree Santana is not one of the 10-15 best pitchers in baseball.
  14. We won't be going to the play-offs this season. In 2015, I have Nolasco as a 3, Hughes as a 3-4, Gibson as a 3, Meyer as a 2. That should be good enough to contend.
  15. I like Turner as our SS of the future or Jackson as our C of the future and believe both will be available at 5. I view Kolek as an insurance ace, but can't see him getting past King Theo.
  16. Cmath, you said it was obvious after May he was the more talented player. He was brought up sometime just after mid-June. This reminds me of the boards mini-meltdown when Buxton was sent to Ft. Myers a day or so later than some expected. I really don't think a month here and there is all that important and I'm confident our favorite team gets it right alot more often than we do. EDIT: I retain this confidence in our favorite team, even though they have lost 90+ games three years in a row.
  17. Standard operating procedure in MLB is not to rush a rookie starting pitcher just back from Tommy John surgery to the bigs to take advantage of his fresh arm. We were told on several occasions that he was being held up because of being inconsistent. Ryan basically talked about building up his arm strength and going from there.
  18. There never was a potential ace in the free agent market. Whether Garza, Santana, or Jimenez are still 2's is certainly open for debate.
  19. Who wants true competition? I think most teams would much prefer to have all 5 starting pitchers set prior to ST. I would like to hear a case, that only one of Nolasco, Hughes, Correia, and Pelfrey deserve a spot in the starting rotation.
  20. The Twins don't have six #5 starters, and the next time a highly touted prospect who is deemed ready is blocked, will be the first time.
  21. I'm guessing Gibson is the first man up. By my count he's one injury or a poor start of the season by whomever wins the 5th spot away from Target Field. If the unthinkable happens and all 5 starters are healthy and having careers years, he may have to wait for Correia to be dealt.
  22. His value is coming up and staying up and becoming the 2-3 the Twins project him to be. Does it really matter if it takes another month or so?
  23. The first time I've heard the Twins linked to Turner. We know the Twins won't reach, but I hope they are watching him as closely as they watched Stewart.
