  1. Baltimore did not sign any of the top 30 International prospects this year. The Twins were one of a handful of teams that took a long hard look at Miguel Gonzalez. What I read was many teams backed out because of question marks and asking price.
  2. As Terry Ryan has said, this is a transition year. No idea how the last 40+ games are going to play out, but feel if the season started tomorrow, we would be in a much better position to compete. If the Twins were one of the many franchises with a gun to their head, they would have traded Sano and Buxton for major league ready starting pitching in an attempt to win as many games as possible this season. Completely agree with your comments on Dozier, Florimon, and Hicks. I would add Arcia, Gibson, Pressly, and Thielbar. I expect us to be close to .500 next season and adding Sano, Buxton, Rosario and Meyer during the year. The parade starts in 2015. The rebuild should allow us to dominate the Central as we have in the past. No idea if it goes beyond that, and realistically it probably hasn't been decided. That's the way I see it.
  3. Please don't paraphrase a multi-paragraph post into a byline... kthxbye -Brock
  4. Chief, this is exactly the wrong time to makes changes. The danger in rebuilding is that it may never end. See Kansas City and Pittsburgh. Teams get 3 years into a 5 year plan and then panic. Ryan has many of the pieces in place and will gladly return to retirement when the job is done. Gardy's challenge will be is he the one who can take us deep into the play-offs.
  5. He's 26 with 434 major league at bats.
  6. I'm uncomfortable with some one who posted Terry Ryan is pathologically adverse to risk and the Twins are hypocritically harmful to players with feistiness in their game, lecturing another poster on being cynical.
  7. There are 15-20 aces in all of baseball. So a max of what, 60 top of the rotation arms? When you read about draft picks, prospects etc., it sounds like they grow on trees. Hence back of the rotation starters are considered to be what the cat dragged in. It's very complicated and usually takes some luck to build a solid rotation.
  8. John, I agree it's much better than the days of yore. I think that's why some of us appreciate how quickly the current rebuild is progressing. If you dwell on a small enough picture, it's always going to look bleak during a rebuild. Ryan hasn't even been back in charge 2 years, and many of the national experts are already predicting an early turnaround.
  9. Good job Boone. I'm skeptical and like Florimon more and more, but appreciate your efforts. It would be huge if the Twins feel we already have our SS of the future, so we can use our 2014 pick on a starting pitcher. Next year's draft may go 7-8 deep.
  10. I think Correia and Gibson are the only two set for next season. Hopefully in the next 40+ games one of the others will claim a spot. I have no doubt Ryan will bring in a free agent for another. I expect the starting rotation to improve from dismal to below average. Even with a below average starting rotation, I expect the Twins to finish around .500 in 2014. I'm expecting the leap to average in 2015.
  11. Major League Ready, I think you're very close. Good post!
  12. I believe they will do it for both Sano and Buxton, and sooner rather than later. Supfin99, I liked your post back in June, but think the price will continue to rise.
  13. Yes, Ryan is good enough.
  14. The Royals were 2 or 3 games over .500 two weeks ago. That doesn't fit my definition of actually doing it.
  15. I don't really disagree with you, but with Sano and Buxton I wouldn't be surprised if the Twins take a unique approach. They have both been handled very well as far as I can see, and I won't be surprised to see Sano get play-off experience in Rochester or time at Target Field. I'm starting to think the Twins maybe a bit ahead of their rebuild schedule with position players and they may just turn those two loose. I consider the Hicks experiment a success.
  16. The Twins will pass the Royals next season and never look back.
  17. Looked like he could be in the mix for our 1B of the future.
  18. There are 15-20 #1 starters in all of baseball. I feel the parade will start in 2015, and I would like a reinforcement. Just my opinion. Last draft prediction I was correct on was Wimmers.
  19. I read somewhere the number of trades are down this year and a lot of the trades are made the last few days. I think the Twins are in a win-win situation. Let me go out on a limb here and say, if Ryan does decide to make a deal, even some posters on this board will approve.
  20. I would be surprised if Worley isn't a big part of our rotation next season. No doubt they would make the same deals today.
  21. Just another example that Ryan is using all avenues, except bidding on top tier free agents, to improve the Twins. Don't forget Pressly in Rule 5 or Florimon on the waiver wire. It's not an accident we have the top rated farm system.
  22. I'm on pretty safe ground by stating multiple posters felt Sano should get special treatment. Brock's 2nd to the last post, did a good job of providing some perspective on this matter. If Sano ends up in the HOF, I would guess the incident is deleted from his personnel file.
