  1. I'm not sure. I read somewhere, where the Twins FO doesn't understand the concept of selling high. I think it's much more likely that Meyer and May just fell into their lap.
  2. I saw Camilo and Mudcat at the airport.
  3. Having enough money is the easy part. Why not wait to see how this plays out?
  4. Not everyone believes they are playing an angle. There are good guys and bad guys in every Industry Group and I already knew the Twins FO was very well thought of.
  5. I really like Arroyo and Kazmir. At 5 and 60M for Nolasco, I would look to make a trade and if push comes to shove sign Pelfrey. I don't see anyone worth going 4 years for, much less 5. The Twins aren't going to ring the bell next season, and the worst thing that can happen to them is to get another top 10 draft choice.
  6. When does a difference of opinion become hypocrisy? Baseball is only a game. Why not have some fun with it, without name calling?
  7. There are no more than 15 aces in all of baseball. Expand that to front of the rotation starters, which are 1's and 2's, you have maybe 40 total. Which ones did the Twins have a realistic chance to sign? Note, Meyer projects as a 2, Stewart as an ace. Our chances for a 1-2 in the 2014 draft are very good. Ryan has been back 25 months.
  8. This is the lefty I would go for.
  9. King Theo is a Ryan clone. He'll want Berrios and Thorpe.
  10. Brandon, that's the way I see it too.
  11. I have no problem with Arroyo for up to 3. If Kazmir is truly healthy, I like him for 2. Last year we used 11 starting pitchers, 9 of whom spend some time at Rochester. I like Diamond, Vanimal, Denuno, if he's not ready, as plan B. No idea how they will make it thru waivers. Meyer should be ready midseason. The rotation will be far from sexy, but it is a step forward. This would position us to start 2015 with Arroyo, Kazmir, Meyer, and Gibson. I would spend or trade big to fill the final spot.
  12. I was too late to ask questions also. Liked your comments on May, Vanimal, Escobar, and Arroyo. I like the idea of Jeremy's 2 for 1 trade with the Rangers for starting pitching prospects, but I wouldn't trade major league ready power. It is so nice to hear guys who are not only knowledgeable but positive about our favorite team.
  13. Mike, you and the guys would be happy with 5-10 more wins? I have a really, really hard time believing that. Personally, I won't be happy until we contend for the Central again. You are correct in that they won't be taking your chosen path and signing any top tier free agents. The Twins do indeed have money coming out of their ears, but alas, there is no value in that segment of the market. The dumpster diving market on the other hand, appears to be larger than last years and does contain some opportunities for the leery shopper. As I see it, Ryan will give our favorite team a chance to win 81 games next season, assuming they get more than their fair share of lucky hops. If at All-Star time we are losing the game of inches, look for Ryan to retreat to the safe land of top 10 draft choices.
  14. Twinsfan34, I think we are pretty much in agreement. I use a 3 to 1 ratio. 3 top prospects will yield 1 solid major league starter. We have Gibson and Meyer, so we need 9 more top pitching prospects. I like your years 2016 and 2017. I would add our first pick in 2014, and Wimmers as a darkhorse. By 2017 we should be able to take care of our starting pitching needs internally.
  15. I think going dumpster diving and/or making a trade is the prudent course. I understand we have more than enough money to make a bad deal, but I would save the bad deal money for the unknown.
  16. By 2017, we will be able to provide our starting pitchers from our farm system. I wouldn't go over 3 years. Also, I would make prospects 5-15 available for the right starting pitcher.
  17. It makes no sense not to bring in a veteran catcher to split the job at least 50/50 with Pinto. All kinds of catchers are out there, for all kinds of prices. A two year deal until Turner is ready will work just fine. Also, Turner has been wrongly labeled as a Butera clone since he is outstanding defensively. At .372 he was the #1 hitter for a team which has made the NCAA playoffs 11 of the past 13 years and #4 in the SEC. Teams that didn't like his hit tool didn't draft him, a team that did, did as per usual. The Twins were linked to every top catcher in the draft. Turner fit their draft board.
  18. I agree, so I didn't shed any big tears when we lost 96 games. Another 1 or 2 coming to Target Field will work out just fine. I know I'm wrong about this, but it seems too coincidental that King Theo and TR seem to be following the same path in garnering top draft choices.
  19. Joe is the rare athlete who could have played Division I in three sports. I agree with the poster who suggested Joe would bulk up. To be the best 1B in baseball he needs to hit HR's. I think over time Joe will hit more HR's.
  20. So you're complaining about how he was handled before he became a star on our favorite team. It was indefensible, bizarre, and as-yet-undefined? All's well that ends well.
  21. I distinctly remember Gardy having mixed emotions over Bartlett being included in that trade. There is no stupidity to fix.
  22. I like the pitcher from the loveable losers, but wouldn't give up a guy who is going to hit 25 HR's. Let King Theo choose from our 5-15 prospects and start there. No way the Twins would trade Gibson. If they could pick up another Gibson clone or 2, they would do it in a heartbeat. Like Theo recently said, there is no free agency for young players.
  23. Completely agree on Gibson. He was projected at one time as a top 10-15 talent in the draft, he pitched 51 underwhelming innings his first year back after Tommy John and now people are ready to give up on him? Looking ahead to the future, we have Gibson and Meyer. Two down, three to go.
  24. The injury occurred in 2009. He has since pitched 3 strong college seasons and was at one time projected to be a top 20 pick. Maybe his strikeout #'s caused him to drop to about where BA had him slotted. A 2nd round pick is a not a 1st round pick.
