  1. After reading this posting and writing my response I went to ESPN to check out events and found Boston had just traded for a 36 year old reliever who has an ERA a run higher than last year and then I read about the Mets and Snydergard going down and Harvey taking surgery and then about the Orioles having to replace an awful Jiminez. Of course the Dodgers have almost no rotation and this story can be played out in other places as well. The conclusion is - TR start moving or get a lieutenant who can talk trades and step in before more prospects are wasted through the desperation that these competing teams feel - right now.
  2. My issue in this report is the idea that teams should be coming to TR with all their ideas. Don't we have some ideas of our own? Can't we suggest some good matches for the other teams to consider?
  3. I believe that this is a reflection of a long standing issue where Twins for years have had players on the roster but not playing so they can battle a minor issue only to have the issue flair up and inevitable time on DL started late, sometimes costing us spots on the bench that could have aided the team. This has been going on for a long time and I keep thinking that the Twins record of hiring from within and staying with their buddies has not given us the fresh set of eyes to put better procedures in place on all levels. I do hope Park can be allowed to heal, that his mental aspect is not impacted. To which I would add another request to a FO restructure - get some people of color, some people from Latin America and Asia in to the offices and the coaching staff.
  4. when I read the comments in these posts I find that the enthusiasm for Berrios has really dropped. Just like Chagois, we need to give the young pitchers a much bigger window of opportunity. I think of how we have stuck with Duffey (a good thing) but Chagois and Berrios were poorly handled and it has affected a lot of peoples thoughts too. I would be more specific, but it would require me to go back through all the comment sections. So take my comment as a general feeling that our excitement for Berrios - compare it with last year - should be just as strong and we should be pushing for his return.
  5. I am amazed at how quickly people have become skeptical of Berrios. I am a skeptic of the Twins ability to develop talent, but I still believe in the talent.
  6. Exercises like this are fun and give us something to read and write about. No projection is truly dependable, but that is not the purpose. If we were leading the division the stories would be different, but if TD is going to keep us entertained we need the writers to play with the facts that they have at hand.
  7. Nice summary. Let's hope Stewart or Jay can speed up their arrival and fill in the rotation with Duffey, Berrios, and Gibson. For the bullpen, clear the decks and fill it with minor leaguers. Are we afraid we might lose an extra game?
  8. There has been a flurry of July 4 action, but nothing of great interest. It did catch Twin fans attention and this would be the time for an aggressive team to capitalize on that and move on. A marketing of the Team for the future is better than watch our team try to avoid 100 losses. The problem I see is that the FO and many Twins fans over rate our players. For example Plouffe, we have grown up with him and he has been a nice story, but nothing special in the eyes of the rest of the majors. Think about the 3B transactions from last year and Plouffe is not going to be worth what we think. Since pitching is the name of the game and teams like the Yankees and Dodgers are desperate right now we can move the huge Santana and Nolasco contracts if we work it out right and those teams would not blink at what we consider outrageous sums.
  9. Because we need more DH/1B type players? I actually hope Vargas can make it, but I would also like to see Walker get a chance.
  10. Not for long. That after the all star break there will be more pitcher news I would bet.
  11. Lets hope the real All Star news will be trading Santana and Nolasco and bringing up our young arms. It is time to move on and there are some teams with real pitching needs - like the Dodgers who could use one of these national league arms (maybe two).
  12. Which pitcher comes up now? We know that they will not be content to drop a pitcher and bring up a batter. I vote for Berrios and send out Milone and for Jepsen bring back Chagois and give him a real chance. For now - I consider this the first fireworks for the celebration.
  13. As a diversion in a terrible season, your column makes me laugh. Perhaps you should do a comparison of how Arcia and Ortiz were handled because it is not their potential, but the Twins ability to maximize a players potential that really counts.
  14. Bring back Bill Smith? I am far from a TR supporter or fan - I think he is terrible, but who will they get? Promote from within, go down the list of buddies and soon we have a TR/BS clone and then what? With the mess he was given and with TR calling the shots I have no judgment about Molitor as a manager. The one thing I keep seeing is the Mets, Dodgers, Astros, Cubs...bringing up a young prospect and he shines! The Twins bring up our top farm team prospects and they struggle. It is becoming a pattern that needs to change.
  15. 73 home runs in a year unless a new super injection is created that can avoid detection. McClain's 30 wins. I think he is the last. Warren Spahn's left hander win total - 363! Very underrated.
  16. I am having a hard time caring about what the roster will be and I blame TR for that fact. Sorting out his confusing plan leaves me cold and thinking about trades and roster moves for this team seems futile. Nice exercise, but tough to get excited. Maybe what we need is a new stadium. We were told we needed this stadium so the Twins could compete - well that sure didn't work so maybe we should start over or trade with the Saints.
  17. I have trouble with this projection because I see so much confusion in the Twins "plans". I do not know why our minor leaguers have so much trouble adjusting to the majors so my real issue is with the coaching plans - if this site has been accurate in describing all our minor leaguers over the last few years I keep wondering why they are not stars like the cubs and numerous other team rookies. The other teams deal with age, they bring them in and they produce, but ours come in and struggle. I would certainly move Jepsen (a long time ago) and many other vets, but can we transition our young players, because what has been written would seem to indicate that we do not have to go crazy with trades and free agents.
  18. I agree - with you. I was sarcastic, not accurate and your point just emphasizes more of why we cannot fix this team with the simple(?) addition of an Ace.
  19. The real indictment is the fact that we have no team to talk about. We are down to the pitiful level of just being able to talk about the FO and all the coaches. This is when hope is gone. It would be nice to talk about TRs shrewd plucking of relievers from the minors, but if you have watched the last week you have seen these vets implode too. And of course who counts runners who score but are charged to the last pitcher. The bullpen is over worked. The starters are overworked. We need to move the mound in about 10 feet and get rid of the bench and add more pitchers. How long until the all-star game? All we need to do is win the next 13 in a row and we will be at 40%.
  20. All the postings and speculation all come back to the fact that there is no plan.
  21. TR likes the vets, he has not put in a system that works with the young guys so trading for prospects is against the grain for him. Look at the mess in the bullpen. Boshers, Jepsen...are not going to do any better than Burdi, Chagois, and others in the minors, but they make TR more comfortable.
  22. Much better to post the upcoming game than to talk about what just happened.
  23. I find myself enjoying former Twins more than current Twins. I wish Arcia great luck and a long career. I look at his slash line and at Park's slash line. How did Park get the patience of management, but not Oswaldo?
  24. An Ace means we win 10 more games in a season. We are to terrible to trade prospects for 73 instead of 63 wins. We were all told we were building towards 2016, now it is 2017, but in reality it is 2018 (if we are lucky) and an Ace right now means nothing. In fact, who think the Twins can figure out what an Ace is? Seldom do true Aces get traded and then we have to figure out what we would have to trade to get an Ace. Do you think the Mets would trade one of their studs for Berrios and May? Or Berrios, Duffey, May, Dean, and anyone else you can name? I don't.
  25. How many years and how long to diagnose his problems? Even the medical staff is part of the system failure. In a year where there are very few save situations its time to give a few rookies a chance. Burdi - Chagois and others really cannot induce a worse record that our rotation has.
