  1. Great start - now for more trades. Even if we lose a few more games we cannot me more of a last place team. It is only the future that counts now. For some of the players needing to be moved the objective is to clear space. Nunez is a real asset and I wish him luck as he goes forward.

  3. It would be nice to look beyond won and loss. Maybe I can pretend we are actually a team with a winning record or are we at a point where wins don't count? He does not have it. He is missing something. He is not new, he is scouted. The other teams adjust. How about us - do we adjust?

  5. I hope it hilarious. So far every site talks about players from multiple teams, but nothing about the Twins. Pomeranz has no history. He is not an A player. He has had a good half season.
  6. Three days left. I look at ESPN and other sites - no mention of Twins. That is depressing.
  7. Three days left. I look at ESPN and other sites - no mention of Twins. That is depressing.
  8. I do not know. Last year was great, this year was horrible. He was handed the job and Berrios was sent down. The Berrios handling will always frustrate me, but the patience that Duffey has been shown in comparison makes the decision making even more difficult to understand. I suspect Duffey will be a starting pitcher in the future, a curve ball pitcher can induce too many passed balls for a reliever. But beyond, Gibson, Berrios, Santana I am now sure how I can see the future rotation. The minor league reports seem to show Jay and Stewart moving up and a few more with some promise, but like most of the readers we only have the words that Seth posts (which I really appreciate). I know we will still have Nolasco next year and we have Hughes for three more years so for now I guess they round out the starting five until someone comes in and actually creates a plan.
  9. I am afraid the Twins have a habit of over valuing their own players - as fans we fall in to the trap too. But they are the professionals and after announcing things are going to change they had an obligation to get out front. Santana could have been as valuable as Pomeranz, but that is done and our options are diminished. Waiting for Lucroy and others to go is an excuse, not a reality. The earlier you trade the longer they have the player and the more valuable they become. Bullpens are hurting in many places so our pick ups should have been flipped. We do not need a closer this year. Yes, being early puts you in the conversations and just might give you an advantage.
  10. I am skeptical that they will trade anyone of value - the Twins just don't do that. What ultimately might be the key to the future is jettisoning bad contracts. Berrios needs to be here, who else? I don't know. But right now we have Hughes, Santana, and Nolasco ready for another year or more. These are albatrosses that hang from Ryan's neck no matter how nice a guy he is supposed to be. With them and Mauer what are our chances of moving on? We have some great young players who can grow in the majors, but pitching does not show any potential. Gibson is inconsistent and getting older than most people think. Duffey had a great year last year, but would not be in the rotation for any good team. He has been very bad more than very good. So what do we have for the future? Berrios and Santana. Beyond that I am not excited. DFA is our option for clearing the deck unless Antony demonstrates that he is genius.
  11. I hope you are right. Firing TR has not changed my opinion of the FO - this is still the Twins, but maybe!!!!!
  12. I actually like it! I know I may be the only one on this forum to think it has some merit, but, in fact, it creates even more strategy when you know you have limited access and have to figure out who can do more than get one lefty out. A well pitched game is what we saw from Ervin Santana - a starter who owns the entire game. All the relief pitching changes and matches makes me feel like I am at a basketball game where the last 5 minutes lasts as long as the rest of the game.
  13. Take a look at the Yankees. They did not wait for Chapman to start to burn out. They bought him cheap and now they are flipping him for talent. Buying older pitchers and expecting them to earn their high salaries just does not work. We need to move on and change this system failure. Go young, who cares about wins this year? It is development and Santana, Hughes, Nolasco are not going to be around when the tide changes so why bother. Get whatever you can and start the new philosophy that we are being sold with the TR firing.
  14. Today there was a posting about the weakness in catchers with any OPS level and I think Suzuki is more of a trade asset than we have written about in this forum. I also think Gibson could have some immediate value to teams like the Dodgers. I love the idea of Nolasco and Milone going, but I do not restrict our trade options to those two.
  15. As I look at the trades going down I keep wondering why the Twins continue to be one of the last to consider a trade. Its time to move our pitchers before all the other options have fallen in place and our negotiation strength is reduced. And then FREE Berrios. He has done all that can be asked in the minors.
  16. Trade him. Learn from the Jepsen experience. Bullpen pitchers are notoriously unreliable from year to year. Closing tor a losing team is not the same as it is for a winning organization and we need to experiment with our minor league flame throwers and see what else might be there for the future. In this lost year it does not make sense to just pad Kinzler's stats.
  17. The problem is - we can only speculate because we have to watch Nolasco and Milone clog the system which means we leave our potential in the minors.
  18. I was impatient to have him come up the end of last year, I was frustrated with they handled his short promotion this year and I am disgusted with the delay in calling him up right now. Do we want to wait until he throws enough to need a Tommy John in the minors?
  19. JOSE BERRIOS CRACKS LAW'S TOP 50 The Twins gave up on Berrios fast this year after four rough outings in which he struggled to throw strikes, Keith Law writes. The right-hander should be in the majors as he has little to nothing left to learn at Triple-A. Law: Updated Top 50 prospects (Insider) When we get a good one we don't know what to do with him.
  20. This is what trade deadline is all about - it gives fans of lousy clubs something else to focus on and debate.
  21. Based on what I expect TR to get for Suzuki I think we have no choice but to keep him. It might not be popular, but the catching cupboard is too bare. We can see what TR gets in trades when we look at the next catcher on the list who is stumbling in AAA. Trading santana and Dozier who have young replacements ready makes sense, Suzuki does not.
  22. In context I see the Jepsen trade as a push for the playoffs and something to enhance the TR reputation, but in the same year with the same playoff potential we shut down Berrios and didn't try to upgrade the pitching in the closing weeks of the season. It is about having a vision and a plan. Those who look at timelines in the post above are right. That is how good teams move players around, but I keep looking for a Twins plan and it eludes me.
  23. I really appreciate your reviews. It is hard to comment when all my knowledge comes from your postings, but I wonder if Alex Meyer is ready to drop off your list along with Reed. It seems as if your on the rise list needs to make it in the top 20 and if so, who besides the two I listed would drop off?
  24. Nice finish to the end of the first half, but we need perspective so we do not go over the emotional cliff again. The article says this was against the first place Rangers which is accurate, but who were their starting pitchers? Will the three we saw be in the rotation in a month (or week)? They are getting their real starters back and when they do the situation could be changing drastically or they will not stay in first place. We have had a nice run of poor opposition and that will change. I love the idea that this will spur the team to the same heights for the second half, but they have disappointed so much this year that I want to be cautious before that old bandwagon rumbles down the road. My old fear from this spurt is that TR will sit back now and say everything is great just like he expected it to be.
  25. Just read this on ESPN tonight - "Red Sox acting swiftly to address needs, but starting pitching will be harder to find The additions of the past few days have helped the Red Sox, but with a steep asking price on starting pitching, hope might rest on internal options." I believe that Santana and Nolasco both have value right now and it is TRs job to capitalize on the market.
