Introducing the Head 2 Head Debate Forum!
mikelink45 commented on Brock Beauchamp's blog entry in Battle Your Tail Off
I believe the use of RP, the length of SP appearances, who cares about exit velocity and especially how far a HR was hit? Who are all those coaches and what do they do? Which coaches are the most important. .How soon should prospects be called up? How do we shorten games? What needs to be done to get the popularity of the sport back? Oh the options. -
Introducing the Head 2 Head Debate Forum!

I love it. One of my pleasures on TD is when I get comments and discussions - and often other opinions. This could be really fun - Go Eddie Rosario! -
1B has a history of big and slow guys filling in the lineup so that their bats could play - when the DH came in 1B became a place where we wanted to have some fielding ability. Ted Kluszewski was a prime example. Hrbek was a surprisingly good fielder for his size. I like Scott's list of fielding pct. It is still a useful tool and does expose Sano in a way that is easy to understand. But do not trade or sign for a 1B. We have Kiriloff, Rooker, Sano, Larnach, Miranda, Arraez, Garver and more in the minors that can fill in their. Unless we are looking for a glove wiz this is what we have to work with.

Sano is really hard to judge, but the fact that all his hitting came after we dropped out of any potential contention drops him to a D+ for me. Hitting with the pressure off is not what we want or need. He will be with us a long time and will be a challenge to judge throughout his career. Donaldson did almost everything we asked for so I would put him up to the B+. Simmons had a lot of lapses that do not figure in the fielding metrics he was an F for me. Where was Arraez - he is not an OF. He played around the IF, his hitting was down, his fielding not sensational, but he was very usable and would get a C from me.

Minnesota Needs to Outbid for an Ace

I just cannot see it. Very seldom does this work out. Take a look at Snell, Bauer, Clevinger, Bumgartner, Kluber, Aces and arms are a crapshoot. Develop your own.- 75 replies

Which Twins Could Become Free Agents Later This Week?
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is the most confusing year in the last five. The direction of the team, its needs, and its concentration of talent in a few places makes the moves a real challenge to predict.- 7 replies

Revisiting the Eddie Rosario Decision

Not true - you and everyone else in Twinsdom would love to be a Braves team and see your team make it into the World Series. That is the goal, and Eddie just took his team there. -

Just watched Eddie hit a three run HR right after an Adrianza double. Great to be a Twins (ex-Twins) fan. Go Eddie. What an amazing series you have had. -
With the trend in TD articles I expected to see Eddie Rosario mentioned here, but we will leave his strong but erratic arm for other posts. I am not high on Archie Bradley, but the other two look good if we can get them. Much better than the homeless group we tried to turn into BP arms last year. I do agree we need to get at least two (counting Moran) from the minors.

How Does the 2021 Eddie Rosario Experience End?
mikelink45 replied to RandBalls Stu's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am delighted - Eddie Rosario has taken over the playoff and Twins Daily. Its the off season and our former Twin is the talk of the league, Eddie on MLB.com, and Twins Daily. He is so hot we missed the perfect two innings by Graterol on mlb.com. and Ryan Pressly finishing two games for Houston. Only Ehire 0-7 looks like a Twin in the Post Season, but he is there, Jake Odorizzi has pitched like a Twin in the playoffs with a 9.00 era. Jason Castro drove in the winning run in one game for the Astros and is 2 for 4 with a HR. Boston is trailing in the series because they have Martin Perez doing his Twins thing with a 12 era and Danny Santana 0-2. The Twins fan is never at a loss in the playoffs (only the Twins are). And the teams with the fewest ex-Twins are the ones that are behind at this stage. And in answer to the question - how will it end? With Eddie holding the WS trophy. -

Twins Fans Living Vicariously Through Rosario
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I posted most of my thoughts in the next Eddie article, but enjoyed your write up Ted. Eddie has always been fun and fun is something baseball needs. We keep waiting for Byron to break loose on the bases, but not get hurt and I love the Buxton reactions (let's not lose him), but Eddie was a joy to watch, even if he screwed up and made me laugh. When people say he hit 215 for us in the playoffs I have to ask what the others hit. Because I still remember some key hits. I do not like the Dodgers (Yankees West), but I also do not like the Braves and my focus has instead been on Eddie and his historical heroics. I do enjoy seeing Graterol and Pressly too. And seeing Jason Castro get a key hit was fun. But it is Eddie who has us on a joy ride. -
Revisiting the Eddie Rosario Decision
mikelink45 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No stats can measure excitement, energy, happiness. I would not have signed Eddie for $12 mil, but then I would not sign any player for that much MLB play money. However, if I were the Twins I would have looked at an extension in the Polanco, Kepler signing period - the same with Berrios and Buxton. Yes we had Kiriloff and Larnach - Kiriloff made 59 games and had an OPS of 98 and 0.6 WAR. He has missed a lot of time with injuries in the minors and that concerns me. Plus Kiriloff looks like he is going to be 1B not LF. Larnach was brought up too early gave us 0.5 WAR and 88 OPS in 79 games. Let's hope he finds the batting eye he started the year with. Arraez is not a good LF and does not have enough power for the corner. Did we need Eddie for one more year? My answer would be yes. But the decision is over and I wish both the team and prospects and Eddie the best. -

Will the Twins Consider a Nelson Cruz Reunion?
mikelink45 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Just like Greinke - time to move on. Age is not negotiable and we have enough bats to fill the DH/1B/corner OF slots. He was great to have on our team, but like Thome he has only so much gas left in the tank at this stage and if you remember he left us mid season for a contender just like Cruz and then the next year he was on three different teams and called it quits. Time for the old song - Thanks for the memories - -

The Twins Need Taylor Rogers
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Who else would they sign? We know Rogers and he has the potential to come back and be a very good relief pitcher. Robles and Colome and all the dumpster dives prove that it is often best to stay with the reliever you know than to hope you can find a better one. The White Sox thought they had what they needed in Kimbrel - he has the history and record, but the cost did not meet the results. Philadelphia keeps signing RP and watching them flame out. BP management and reliable arms are what we need. -
I look forward to all of them. Put Lewis at SS and let's judge him then. Keep Buxton in CF. Flexibility is fine, but look at Houston - how often do their players move around - they have found a lineup and stay with it. I like letting players get comfortable where they belong. Then use flex when necessary. I do not know much about Martin, he has not been with us long enough for TD to educate me so I will wait on him, but I want Lewis and Miranda on the club this year.
