  1. After reading all these comments, I asked myself who besides Vargas is at AAA,that we could look at? So examining the AAA roster and stats, there are only 3 ops above 800 which are the same three over 500 slugging. Hicks is already here so the only competition for Vargas would be Danny Ortiz (who also bats left) . He leads the team in home runs as well. My vote is Vargas for sure needs to be brought back up but if they are working on something with him DFAing Stauffer could leave room for an Ortiz DH/RF with Hunter DHing occasionally for a week or two. Mid season cup of coffee and if he doesn't clear waivers when sent back down, no big loss. PS: he has 7 homers
  2. I think we should start a poll question to decide your desk top and I vote for either our current opponents logo or whoever is ahead of us in the standings...
  3. I think all the TD minds see Gonsalves as the other All Star (woulda been a starter) but Trey Vavra has been an excellent player to follow this year. Congratulations Trey and now welcome to our prospect watch in over drive!
  4. Well, the more I watch it, the more I think it was a good play. He got to the ball pretty quickly off the carom and relayed it in. Plouffe standing behind Santana was in perfect line to attempt a relay but Santana was in line for second base and that is what made the deke not work. Santana dives to stop the ball and is in no position to get pedroia at home. If Santana gets that ball on his feet, there is a play at home.
  5. Sweet sounding bullpen option in that article. We'll See how it pans out as he progresses up through the minors
  6. Should I make a comment about 2014 vs 2015 or how you didn't knock on wood and got him sent to fort Meyers....
  7. Loving this team and many players on it I have to be honest about who is best at each position in the league and say we don't have a single #1 or #2 best at any position. Dozier is great and Plouffe has become an excellent 3rd baseman but they are not THE guys yet. Pitching again who is elite? Maybe Perkins but that's it. My only Twin All Star worthy of the title is Perkins.
  8. Accept it guys and gals, hes here for life! I too believe that a players personality is an intangible that you cannot measure it s impact on a team A La Nicky Punto. Can you smell those wins? Yes, YES!!! I do smell them!!!
  9. 34-24 career win loss 513 IP 4.01 career ERA 366/127 k/bb 1.31 WHIP not great numbers but he has shown MLB value over a 90 game MLB career. We knock him because of last year and forget he has more of a career than our little SSS in Minnesota. He is, always has been, and always will be a 4-5 pitcher at the back of the rotation but he is solid there and belongs in the majors.
  10. I think Neil Allens contributions cannot be ignored in the "new feel to this team" discussion though I wish he'd work some magic on Hughes
  11. Looking at bad trades as a reason to knock a GM is not a good measure of a GM in isolation. Every GM will end up with their share of bad trades and therefore the longer the tenure, the more bad trades on their head. I think we need advanced stats on GMs. For instance a trade history effect + or - (THE+/-).
  12. Success breeds success. Mauer's numbers looked better earlier in his career in part because he was on better teams. This isn't to say He hasn't declined but I believe part of his decline is lack of hitting around him the last few years. I don't believe he will ever be what he once was but a return to health and the progression of youth I believe is also part of his rebounding numbers.
  13. When a player like Boyer is signed we here lots of "What was Terry Thinking", He does well and people put them on their lists of long term solutions and want us to dump other players, then They regress to the mean and people say "Terry should have traded him when his value was high" Were building for next year still...were in the final stages of the rebuild but that is still what this is. Let me be on the record of saying "Sell High" PS. This applies to Pelfrey also...
  14. Byron Buxtons numbers look great in the second half of the hitters stats. If he was taking walks and hitting for higher average...WOW, he would be off the charts!
  15. Thanks for the Rochester update and please keep posting about the club there!
  16. What do we know of his catching ability? If they are using him all over, is it because he is such a good hitter they want him in the line up everyday or is it cuz Swim just is not gonna be an MLB catcher?
  17. Just wish he was a first baseman...
  18. If I remember right, 2013 was a lost year for him with injury and rehab and thus the poor numbers his first "full" year in AA...
  19. Who REALLY is the Twiins catcher of the future? Suzuki is a stop gap and Pinto isnt establishing the trust...I really don't believe in him. Is there any cream to rise to the top?
  20. Hicks, Hunter, Rosario in the outfield sounds good. So do Arcia and Hunter take turns at DH and Vargas get sent down for more seasoning when someone comes off the DL?
  21. It also depends on what you consider to be "taking this team seriously". Many of us seriously expect this team to be a 500 team give or take a few wins. Contenders for the World Series? Not yet. Playoffs? If so, one round and done Im sure but a lot of things would have to bounce right our way for that. In all honesty though, this is sports and you really never know until half way through any season what your team has. Heck, half way through the Wild season we would all have been happy if they snuck into the playoffs and now were crushed because we thought they were gonna win it all.
  22. I found no links to videos but found the article fascinating none the less. Thank you SD
  23. The game I watched was not 75% Fastball, 25% Changeup...at most 50% fastballs and I'm pretty sure there was more going on there than those two pitches...
  24. For the last couple years we have been getting for ready for 2016. Its 2015, we are still getting ready so bear with the pain. We are one game under 500? I'm ok with that. I want a winning team but you have to go through growing pains and this year we seem to actually be going through those growing pains. Sophomores are regressing, there are young players not fully adjusted to the majors and rotations are being shuffled. We see the light at the end of the tunnel finally but were going to have to be patient with the Santana's, Vargas, Arcia's of the world. We will do the same next year with Buxton, Sano, and Meyer coming up later this year and probably struggling some at times next year. All I want to see is Month by Month stats improving for Santana.
  25. Considering what we have seen around here the past 5 years, Milone has put up worthy numbers this year. No, he doesn't blow poeple away and many complain about his Fastball but there are much worse pitchers to make MLB careers. Having said that, on our team this year, this was the right move for now with the numbers others have put up. He was fifth best starter statistically and Nolasco is paid to be in the rotation.
