  1. So the question is which one of those two will be the third catcher in '17? That will be a fun MiLB competition to watch this year...
  2. I'm hoping future Ace Alex Meyer just gained control of his pitches under the guidance of a football guru...
  3. I think all the discussion about where the posting fees apply to annual payroll is a lot of gobbledygook. If your counting that, you have to look at international signings, draft signing bonuses, etc. Payroll is payroll. Overall budget is overall budget and NONE of us really want to know all those numbers. (Except maybe Jeremy)
  4. Of course I read this at 12:39 AM the 1st of Jan 2016..... I'll buy anyway but really? My timing sucks!
  5. Keep your eyes open while in the stands. A couple years ago, Terry Ryan was just hanging out in a corner rail area where he could watch a side field and the game both at once. Talked to him for 20 minutes. Also saw Lavelle down there but didn't talk to him. Point is, you never know who might be sitting right there and almost everyone is willing to hang out.
  6. If you're going to trade Gibson, you want good value for him. Eduardo Escobar is ok but he's not great and an upgrade would make our team even better. Why wouldn't I like an above average to great SS? Not a knock on Escobar...He's solid. I want a true Ace and AllStars at all the positions....
  7. I would consider trading Gibson for an upgrade at SS...
  8. I would like to start a thread that remains 100% positive in light of Christmas saying Thank You and Merry Christmas to all those we appreciate. (Primarily Baseball/TD related) First Merry Christmas Jesus, It's a holiday about you Merry Christmas Terry Ryan. I don't agree with all you have done but our team is better and were expecting a playoff appearance again. Thank you for the rebuild. Merry Christmas TD Creators and Moderators. You started and have kept improving a wonderful site for us OCD Twins fans to check on daily even when there has been nothing to really report for a few weeks in the dead of the off season. Yet we come here and find something to read and talk about. ThankYou!! Merry Christmas Joe Mauer. Thank you for being a loyal Twin, working hard to do your best, and remaining a positive role model even though you were unable to remain an All Star catcher. You haven't moped and you haven't lashed back at your many critics. You will always be a fan favorite and one of the all time Twins greats. Keep up the hard work and no matter what is said here, we will cheer loudly for you on the field. Merry Christmas Tori Hunter and Michael Cuddyer. Thank you for all the great memories and congratulations on your retirements. You may not have played your whole careers as Twins, but you always were and always will be Twins in our hearts.
  9. If he can keep getting 100 plus RBI's with each level, then Heck yeah!
  10. Are you saying he's just another lurker?
  11. As we go forward with all these young pitchers trying to prove themselves, we need some reliable proven starters. Santana and Milone we know what we're going to get. Hughes alternates his good years (10, '12, '14) with bad years ('11, '13, '15) but most of his "good years" are only as good as Milone where it really matters, putting the team in position to win. Gibson, Duffey, May, Meyer, Berrios, etc are still all unproven. Milone IS the right choice for the starting rotation ALL YEAR. It's all the others not named Santana that are the question marks. We are beating the wrong dead horse folks.
  12. Purely based on numbers, I say under rated.
  13. Brett Doe: would you ever even consider marrying a gal named Jane?
  14. Kohl Stewart: what pitch is he most comfortable with. Does he see a need to increase his K rate and if so, what is he doing to address it.
  15. I was going to ask for LaMonte Wade questions so I'm glad Im not alone. How he feels about his great pro start. Where did he expect/hope to get drafted. Describe The experience of the move up a level for the playoffs and his first professional playoffs. What does he see that he really needs to work on next.
  16. The Kernals gave her a good ride but one game short of champions. As for LaMonte Wade, his final game of this season saw 4 plate appearances. A walk, Strike Out, Fly Out and Pop Up did not help his team much. Season Wrap up: Wade dominated High Rookie ball and deserved the move to the next level. He did not have much time to show his stuff as he got thrown into the playoffs. I expect him to spend all of next year in Cedar Rapids unless he does the same thing there as in Elizabethan and pushes the time table up to mid season.
  17. Tomorrow night will be the deciding game in Cedar Rapids. Series tied 2-2 after a weekend split. Our young hero was on base half the time this weekend, so that's pretty good. Saturday he walked twice, the first time stranded at second, the second time he was getting to third base in the bottom of the ninth as the winning run crossed home plate. His other two plate appearances were outs including hitting into a double play. Today he had two singles. In the third inning he was up to bat when the third out was recorded at second base on a failed steal attempt. He returned to the dish and singled in the fourth... Too bad about that failed steal. His second single came in the bottom of the ninth as the Kernels attempted to rally. If you don't know, they lost 2-1 on a strike out with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth. LaMonte Wade watched that K from 2B as the potential winning run. But there is still one more tomorrow... Go Kernels!!
  18. Cedar Rapids suffered its first playoff loss Thursday 1-4 after some random Minnesota rube cursed them with a playoff sweep prediction. The championship series featuring LaMonte Wade is now tied 1-1 but all three remaining games I believe are hosted by our club. As for our hero, Thursday looked like this: 2nd inning strike out 4th inning fly out to right field 6th inning he reached on an error by their first baseman, advanced to third on a 2 out single, and jogged back to the dugout when the next batter grounded out third to first In the 9th inning he got one last shot but his LF fly ball failed to land in the grass He has these cumulative playoff stats 6 games, .182 BA, 2 Runs, 2 RBIs, 2 2B, 1BB, 4Ks, .250OBP, .273 Slugging 1Stolen base, and one caught stealing in 22 at bats.
  19. Cedar Rapids just might sweep the post season. 5-0 win tonight with my man patrolling CF yet again. 2nd inning ground out 4th inning with man on second, he grounds out advancing the runner to third 6th inning fly out to LF 8th inning singles advancing runner from 1st to 3rd, Steals 2nd and then scores on a single One more game on the road then home to CR for the remainder of the five game series. I predict they clinch Saturday in the three game sweep.
  20. Neat to see Brian Dinkelman listed among the coaches...
  21. Finishing the story of yesterdays game... LaMonte Wade came to bat a third time with a runner in scoring position in the fifth. This time he came through with a double and an RBI. He was promptly stranded at second. In the 7th, With Wade batting Nick Gordon stole 3rd. This was important because during the same at bat, a passed ball allowed him to score the tying run. Lamonte popped out but the Kernals scored again and completed another playoff sweep so my man is on to the next round!!
  22. Today not starting well for Wade... He came to bat in the first with runners on first and second and two outs. He grounded out to the first baseman. He got his chance at redemption with runners on 2nd and third and one out in the third only to strike out. (The batter behind him stranded both runners) down 4-1 going into the 4th.
  23. Saturday in Peoria, LaMonte Wade enjoyed another playoff win going 2-4 at the plate. With two men on and two outs in the top of the first, he hit a ground rule double giving Cedar Rapids a brief 1-0 lead. (Peoria also scored in the first) The next batter struck out stranding the runners at 2nd and 3rd. Wade had the privilege of leading off the 4th, 7th, and 9th innings. In the 4th he singled on a soft liner to Left, but he was caught stealing second base. In the seventh He hit a fly ball to the Center Fielder for the first out, and in the 9th he hit a rocket to the first basemen for that innings first out.
  24. LaMonte Wade was hit less again in his second playoff game, but he was a major part of the action. His first at bat was a strikeout. When he came up to bat in the 4th, there were runners on 1st and 2nd. Wade laid down a sacrifice bunt advancing both runners. One of those runners scored for a brief Cedar Rapids lead. Quad cities tied the game up in the bottom of the fourth. It remained a tie into the 11th in part due to Wade throwing out a runner at home in the 5th. The tie was broken in the 11th. With a runner on first, Wade reached first on an error and advanced to second on another error in the same play.both runners scored securing the playoff series win for Cedar Rapids. Officially Wade was 0 for 6 in at bats with 0 RBIs and only one run scored. On to the next round.
