  1. Bullpen, Shmullpen! The primary problem has been lack of depth in the Rotation overtaxing the bullpen for the last several years. The only thing this bullpen has lacked is a lockdown closer and the only way we're getting that is by a former starter turning into something unexpected in the bullpen or one of these kids (Curtiss?) bringing up the same mojo they had down there. I don't regret the Kinzler trade and I don't blame the bullpen.
  2. On the other hand asking for a WA report would sound childish/babyish.
  3. When I was in college in the late 80s and early 90s our AAA affiliate was Portland. I do not know why this changed to Salt Lake and eventually Rochester but I went to college with a guy from Portland and he was a big Twins Fan because of the affiliation. He made it sound like there were lots of Twins fans in Portland. I rarely saw him without his Twins hat on. It helps that we won two World Series during that time but I always hated that we lost Portland.
  4. Palacios and Polanco made me more comfortable with the idea of trading Gordon for controllable starting pitching. Now with Lewis in the system, I could live with any ONE of them being included in a trade for top level controllable starting pitching. Vielma remains a future Utility defensive replacement prospect. I'd guess he either replaces one of Escobar or Adrianza next year or he just remains a AAA infielder the remainder of his pro career.
  5. Twinkietown had an article discussing the number of pitchers used in a single season. Here is a link to the article: https://www.twinkietown.com/2017/6/26/15871360/minnesota-twins-pitching-carousel-bullpen-trade-deadline-relievers-twins-mlb-pitchers By simply going to a Twins stat sight and counting how many players have pitched for the Twins, one can find that we have now used a franchise record 34 pitchers this year only 6 behind the MLB record set by the Rangers. This counts Gimenez who has made too many appearances but does not count recent call up Curtiss who has yet to pitch. Will we get to 40? 41? Who would be those pitchers? Curtiss, Gonsalves, and ? I also remember reading but could not find a reference to the record for number of starters used in a year. At this point, 16 different pitchers have started a game for the Twins in 2017. As we continue to blow away our clubs previous record, I thought it would be fun to have a thread for us to track and discuss the number of pitchers used and how we will break the records and still win the wild card.
  6. Travis J Harrison was placed on the 7day DL August 11th and released August 19th. My internet searches have not revealed what's next for him but I wish him the best of luck in the future in or out of the baseball life.
  7. If he was still in the rotation before the start, why remove him after? If the accumulation of his work was good enough before, according to the brass, it didn't get worse. He will still be in the rotation.
  8. Well, after tonight I would guess we will see more of Gibson in the Rotation.
  9. Garver mentioned as a bench only role player... really?
  10. And he gets that long overdue promotion TD discussion http://twinsdaily.com/topic/27202-mitch-garvers-college-coach-tweets-that-hes-headed-to-mlb/ It's official http://m.mlb.com/min/roster/transactions/ Congratulations rookie
  11. Stephen "Gonna Save Us"
  12. Well I should have been updating this more often because things change. After the last post, Wade heated back up and had his average back up to over 290. Then he went on a cold streak hitting 234 his last 10 games before hitting the disabled list. He was not officially on the DL until August 6th but he has not played since July 31st. On the season Wade has 95 hits in 343 at bats. His season slash is 277/393/394 for a 787 OPS. These are all career lows but still solid IMO.
  13. Vielmas AAA slash remains abysmal and his last 10 games do not show signs of improvement. But he is hitting 300 in his last 3 games...(3 for10) 577 of Vielmas 592 innings have been at SS. He has made 7 errors in 305 total chances at Short for a .977 FPCT. He's made 2 errors in 12 chances at 2B.
  14. Typically, you just don't see starting pitchers pulled after allowing only 2 runs rookies or veterans. Maybe this is a new direction in baseball overall with starting pitchers not going as deep or throwing as many pitches as they did 20-30 years ago. It's not that I think rookies should have extra leash, it probably needs to be shorter than for veterans, I just believe in letting starters work through problems. Maybe sometimes the writing is on the wall after only 2 runs have scored as it seems it may have been last night.
  15. I can agree with this. It's just that it seems to be more of a pattern than merely situational but I'm just a guy sitting behind a screen judging from afar
  16. Guess I missed that...
  17. Drjim Stated that Enns wasn't any good and Drjim was the one making the determination about viability... He is not sayin Molitor made that determination...
  18. He didn't do it again, he was responding to and quoted Drjim above...
  19. I understand the "don't let the game get away" part but he had also only allowed 2 runs and only one of those earned (because of his own error,) but it's a pattern that does not let pitchers develop and taxes the bullpen. Comparing it to Gibson who is a veteran is apples and oranges. I guess Mejia has made it through and maybe it's the right approach (get the kids feet wet and pull him before he gets crushed) I just would have liked to see the manager express some faith in the young kid and see how he rebounds from giving up his first walk as a major leaguer. It's not like he walked the bases full...
  20. Well, I have really been dropping the ball on keeping up with one of the Twins rising MiLB stars but here is an update: Palacios is doing well at Fort Myers despite a recent slump. He is only hitting 218 with 8 hits in 37 at bats over the past 10 games. Despite his batting Average dropping 15 points in that span, his FM slash is still 297/319/400. I think he will be fine. He has accumulated 175 at bats with the Miracle striking out 38 times and only accepting 4 walks. That's normal for him, he never has walked much. The unusual things for this year are still happening. He has added 2 more home runs and has his season total up to 13. He only had 4 CAREER home runs before this year. (He only hit 1 last year) Jermaine has 182 at bats more than any previous season. He has also stolen 10 more bases since his promotion raising his season total to19 stolen bases on the year. His previous high was 14 in the DSL (of course there are all those extra at bats he has had...) Palacios continues to be used exclusively at SS which is a good sign. He has committed 5 errors since the promotion in 169 chances for a .970 FPCT. I know a lot of people really like our recent draft picks, recognize what Gordon is doing, and understand our need for starting pitchers, but I really believe Palacios is right up there among our top 5 prospects in our organization.
  21. I have been having a REAL hard time with Molitors short leash on rookie pitchers. When I heard Enns was getting the call I wondered if he would get 3 innings in. We saw this with Mejia (and others) but I just don't believe a rookie should be pulled after giving up 2 runs in their first MLB game. this more than anything else he does makes me question Molitor. Explain to me why I'm wrong...
  22. Harrison has 6 hits in his last 10 games which included 31 at bats for a .194 batting average. One of these hits was a home run that gave him 2 of the 4 RBIs he had over the stretch. He also struck out 10 times in those 31 at bats, 5 of those Ks were on July 30th. His season slash is .179/.312/.292 for an OPS of .604.
  23. As long as they are not in the division race, they should be "measured" buyers or "measured" sellers. We're still a building team that seems to be just past the rebuilding team phase. Sell carefully the parts that are not going to be part of a run and buy pieces that will be. This seems to have been the deadline approach and should continue to be so. If surplus can be sold for long term control of assets, then a bigger deal can be made. Until then, we will probably only see Garcia or Kinzler type moves
  24. I guess Vargas' pinch hit appearance cost him his 25 man roster spot... What the heck...
  25. Rosario has accumulated 50.1 MiLB innings for a cumulative 3.24 ERA. He's coaxing a .227 batting average from opposing batters. His 1.113 WHIP is supported by a 2.7 W/9 but he is only getting 6.6 Ks per 9.
