    I hope Miggy does great, makes some money, and is beloved. Maybe he can play there several years. Not the outcome he hoped for at 16, but a lot better than most guys.

    I saw nothing to like during Outman's appearances with the Twins, but I will say that a friend of mine, a 70-year Dodger fan who watches every game carefully, was very sorry to lose Outman and said the Twins got a steal. There's at least a lot of potential there. And he said that before Brock Stewart hit the Injured List for the 50th time after pitching less than 4 innings.

    Kind of reminds me of the Puckett Hrbek Gaetti Viola Laudner Gagne etc. days. They don't have to all be stars- solid pieces are critical too. Or as Rodney Dangerfield said in Caddyshack, "The world needs ditchdiggers, too".

    Got it. Messages posted above do suggest that Popkins seemed to have quite a bit more talent in Toronto, but I do think he got a raw deal from the Twins. Varland's team accomplished a lot more, and he was part of it. Really glad he got a ring. However, it seems like he pitched quite a bit better with the Twins than with the Jays.     Maybe anyone giving the hitting coach credit for the performance of a reliever is just ignorant...or maybe I just missed the point of Varland vis a vis Popkins.

    Looking at the Twins Daily Top 20 for 2022, the problem that leaps out at me is not many players who "excelled in the minors". We had a lot of players who looked like they might be something someday if things went right. I don't see a lack of major-league level improvement, I see a few players expected to do well who have been okay or better and some payers we hoped would do well but had no real reason to expect it. If you look at the top 10, you have the following major leaguers: Martin, who was definitely not a star in the minors Lewis, obvious injury problems throughout the minors, not a great track record there Miranda, had one big year but not a great track record Ryan, not a problem Duran, that worked out ok Woods Richardson, work in progress but seems like a pitcher Winder, never more than a marginal MLer. In addition you had Balazovic with a cup of coffee then released, Canterino with injuries, and Petty, traded. Are there obvious problems there with players who really excelled then never got better in the majors? Looking at the second 10, we have Miller (traded), Celestino (now in the minors with his 4th organization), Wallner (profiled as exactly who he is today, a questionable prospect), Sands (MLB pitcher), Varland (traded MLB pitcher), Rodriguez (still hurt seems like all the time), Enlow (didn't play in '25), Steer (traded MLB player), Julien (described as a "versatile fielder"??), and Hajiar (traded and retired). The idea that we had all these excellent players in the minors who fell apart in the majors just doesn't stand up, IMO. I blame Baldelli for a lot of things, but failing to develop superstars from the talent he was given is not on my list.

    A month ago the popular view was that this was not a job very many people would want. Now the problem is we didn’t hire a really good exciting name. Really? We need a competent manager who can build a staff that helps get the best out of whatever players we end up keeping. At this point I’m partly underwhelmed and more glad that we don’t have to train a manager who has never put a lineup together

    Cavaco was the utter disaster that never should have happened. Everything else is just baseball stuff.

    So this year almost everyone got worse. Meanwhile, our scapegoat hitting coach is one game away from the WS. Great decision there, guys.

    Yankees have Luis Gil, and Brett Hedrick is on the 40-man. Gil wasn’t on the wild card roster because he started last Sunday.

    If Rosario's bat is real, why not have him spend the offseason working at first base? Other outfielders have more potential and he's only looking at Sabato at first base.

    Who was the last shortstop with any kind of significant upside?? Guzman hit triples. Gagne...nothing like this. Roy Smalley? Who am I forgetting? I already thought about Lenny Faedo and Houston Jimenez, no need to mention them. Oh wait, JJ Hardy. Ouch ouch ouch.

    If you are a top end talent you probably aren't a reliever in the minors.

    That's a key reality- good teams seldom fire the manager. It happens, but not too often. Most open jobs face this problem. Some posters occasionally say that payroll doesn't matter because some teams with low payrolls always make the playoffs. I think it's a lot more realistic to say that "payroll alone" doesn't matter. Spending more money shouldn't be ignored as one of several steps toward improving the team.

Caleb Thielbar Cincinnati: Zack Littell, Emilio Pagan, Spencer Steer Milwaukee- no playoff roster yet: Trevor Megill Los Angeles: Ben Rortvedt San Diego: Luis Arraez Ben Rortvedt is on his fourth ML team, his second this year, and he's hitting .152 this season. He started last night because Will Smith is hurt. Right place, right time, good for him.

    One of the interestings things is how they have changed from passive on the basepaths to stupidly aggressive, with slow runners trying to advance and fast runners taking silly chances. Does Baldelli provide any guidance at all, or is it just red light-green light?
