  1. But you don't mind assigning motives to the Twins FO for why they chose to take Gibson to arbitration?
  2. Perkins was quite portly, and didn't appear to be well conditioned. But, as Levi said, not multiple threads about his weight and conditioning.
  3. They went to arbitration with Gibson so they could learn the process.
  4. Odo only has 1 season left of team control beyond this season.
  5. If teams want to bring up a minor league pitcher when we face them, I'll be ecstatic. They still have to face Sano, Dozier and Buxton.
  6. Or he'll never be the same post TJ surgery as he was pre surgery. Not saying he can't get back to what he was, but that's an option too.
  7. I never suggested dumping him. But I don't think he's suddenly a good pitcher either. He's not the first mediocre pitcher to have a good 2 month stretch. He's been pretty consistent the last couple years, and that's likely about what he'll be again in 2018.
  8. Do the rest of the months, when he was the Twins worst starter count? And for the record, he was awful in July, so he was good for 2 months.
  9. Ideally, you'd want high OBP guys at the top. Even at his best, Buxton is going to be more pop than on base machine. Ideally he's a middle of the order hitter.
  10. I went back and re-read the thread, just to be sure. I didn't see anyone write that he's a 100% fastball only pitcher. I may have missed it, can you please quote the post(s) you are referring to?
  11. I'm not saying he won't be, just that I don't know. We know that eventually age catches up to every pro athlete. We can't predict anybody's aging curve, but because we know that eventually decline is inevitable, then every year that goes by after 30 or so, the odds of decline go up. I don't have any data in front of me, but I'd imagine that by age 35, those odds are starting to get up there. Especially, probably, for a guy who has put more of a toll on his body than most mlb players. (Due to catching. ) I'm not predicting a decline this year, just not comfortable, at his age, predicting improvement. That would go for most 35 year olds.
  12. Hildy had a 44:6 k:bb ratio in 46 innings last year. He's absolutely a 100% lock unless he gets hurt. The results of practice games mean nothing.
  13. Sounds about right to me, though I don't know if he'll be better this year. He turns 35 next month.
  14. But wouldn't any/ every pitcher benefit from that defense? So, you'd still want the guy who puts less balls in play.
  15. Why do you only include AVG and OBP, and not SLG? Where does he rank when we look at offense as a whole, especially compared to others at his position? I'm not claiming he's toast, not by any means. If he can repeat 2017, he has value. But let's not try to skew his value by cherry picking only the numbers he excels at.
  16. Gibson is not a FA after this season. He still has another arbitration year remaining. That said, the suggestion that he's not going anywhere just about ruined my day. Ok, not really, but he's not very good, and I don't understand why everyone thinks he eventually will be.
  17. Garver is 27 years old and has 863 PA's in the upper minors. I don't understand what's accomplished by sending him back to AAA. If he's not ready now, he never will be.
  18. Slegers would be the only one with a small chance. Absolute best case for Romero is that he opens enough eyes to be in line for a call up after you're guaranteed another year of service time.
  19. He had a FIP a full run and a quarter higher than his career FIP.
  20. While sometimes an issue for 16 year olds, I'm not sure the Rule V is an issue at all for 18 year olds.
  21. Hamels k rate plummeted last year. Maybe it's just an aberration, but maybe it's the beginning of a very severe decline. Not sure I'd give up that much to find out.
  22. Ha, I should have known better than to be hoodwinked by Doogie. That guy is living proof that anyone can live their dream if they just fake it.
  23. That's a completely laughable offer. Yet, we're told it's ridiculous to suggest that they knowingly offered Darvish a contract they knew he wouldn't accept.
  24. Morrison has played a combined 13 games in the outfield the last 5 seasons. I'm guessing Morrison isn't an option out there as anything more than an emergency basis.
