  1. If you send him home and tell him to get ready for 2019, no they won't. If you send him home after the milb season ends, then bring him back as soon as you gain another year of service time, as the post you quoted suggests, they absolutely will have a case. A winnable one, IMO. There really is no way to spin that besides service time.
  2. I think the point is the much of the defense of his value revolves around his defense at first base- which is meaningless when he's playing DH.
  3. Do you think Grossman has a realistic chance of being a part of the next Twins WS team?
  4. Mike Tice didn't get his draft pick turned in on time, twice.
  5. Perhaps next time the Twins have a first ballot hall of Famer in their system, he'll make it up before age 20. Also, keep in mind, that Kiriloff missed a full season. With another 600 plate appearances under his belt, he might already be on the big club. You may not personally like service time manipulation, but it's part of the CBA. It's negotiated. If you're in contention, and think a guy can help, you might risk burning that extra year of control. If you're not in contention, then getting that 7th season in the middle of a player's prime is the responsible thing to do.
  6. Rodriguez is a starter, not a reliever. He would have been behind Romero, Littel, Gonsalves, and Slegers before he got his shot, which means he'd maybe just be on the cusp of getting his first taste right now.
  7. Then again, some players might appreciate the opportunity to play for something besides a draft pick. If I were him, I'd be thankful that the Twins gave me that opportunity.
  8. Hildenberger has better numbers, both career and this year, against lefies than he does against righties.
  9. Yeah, it's almost 100% that Stewart would be claimed if exposed to waivers. He might subsequently get the ABWIII yoyo treatment, and be waived again right away, but he'd absolutely get claimed.
  10. So far, not so good. But, I hope he gets a couple more starts to show some improvement.
  11. And to add to that, Hildy is actually better against lefties, both this year and last.
  12. He's a negative WAR player this year, and will be 34 next year. I'd have no interest, and I doubt the FO will either. I'd rather resign Escobar.
  13. But he didn't acknowledge any of those things. He chose to only acknowledge the side of the coin that points the finger at the FO. Blaming the FO for selling at 10 games back is just as unreasonable as blaming Santana for his injury timeline. Again, I don't necessarily agree with Tom, because I don't expect a guy to use ration over emotion when talking about his friend, but I can see where Tom is coming from, absolutely.
  14. I'm also not upset by his comments. But, to defend Tom a little, you'll notice that nowhere did Ervin say that if he'd been on the field and performing, the FO might not have been in a situation to sell on his friend Rodney. I think that is where the lack of accountability comes into play. One half of the coin may be that the FO "gave up". The other half of the coin is that through injuries, suspension, and poor play, the key players on the roster put them in that situation. Santana only pointed out the one side of the coin, perhaps conveniently.
  15. I'd be fine with a minor league deal with a May 15th opt out. Not interested at all in a guaranteed mlb spot, no matter how favorable the financial terms are. It's one thing to learn how to pitch with moxy when you lose your stuff over time. It's completely different to try to figure it out when you lose your stuff overnight. I opined that Santana's effectiveness was likely over as we knew it when the surgery was announced. That opinion was of course heartily denounced, but I've seen nothing in the months since to change my mind.
  16. It's not so much about which is ready or which has earned it. They can lose Stewart this winter, they can't lose Thorpe. It's more urgent for them to get some mlb data on Stewart than it is Thorpe, at this point.
  17. MLB Pipeline slotted Raley in at #19 in our system, right between Littel and Blankenhorn.
  18. But coaches watching his AB's in the first half tell them nothing about if he can keep from wearing down in the second half. He clearly already has figured out how to recognize pitches in the first half. His issue is holding up for a full season.
  19. Not sure what the first 2 months of next year are going to tell us. We already know he can crush in the first half. I wouldn't bring him up until he shows he can sustain a respectable performance over a full season. I wouldn't call him up b any sooner than September 2019.
  20. Austin IS Rooker, if Rooker doesn't get his K rate down significantly.
  21. I'd say he's more comparable to Wander Javier. At least by their (mlb.com) scouting grades.
  22. That would depend how confident the Twins scouts were that he can stick at catcher. There seem to be some serious doubts about his ability to stick back there.
